About ENRICO
I am a native Italian speaker with a several years of experience in teaching Italian and English. I am a very easy-going, open-minded, professional person. I like to teach because it gives me the opportunity to meet new students, share my knowledge as well as my culture and experience.

I started tutoring back when I was attending the university in Verona, Italy. I was tutoring English, Math and some other subjects. Later on, I continued teaching English while I was working in other fields. In 2009 I moved to Los Angeles. For a couple of years, I taught ESL in a college, and in the meantime I tutored Italian to private students. Since 2009 I have been tutoring students both on the English and Italian subjects.

I really believe that in teaching, a language a primary focus should be on life skills. Not being an English native-speaker,
I learned how important it is to be able to express basic needs and to perform primary activities. However, it is important to consider other points like grammar, reading, writing. I also think that no matter what a teacher should always take into account the needs of the students and subsequently I plan my classes reflecting on the student's demands.

As to the different approaches and materials that I use, I suppose that it is important to change them frequently in order to keep the classes more interesting. Of course, there are some exceptions. For instance, in the past I taught for a while TOEFL and for that type of classes I used more traditionalist and academic methods and materials.

One of my greatest passion is to cook. I was extremely lucky to be taught and introduced to the art of cooking by my grandmother. She was born at the beginning of the previous century and she lived in different cities so she got accustomed to different traditions and shared them with me. I love to cook for smaller groups, using traditional Italian ingredients to prepare simple, but exquisite dishes that belong to the tradition of my native country. If you want to experience some real Italian food, you are definitely in the right hands. Just sit back, relax sip a glass of Italian wine while I cook for you and I share my art.

From the get go I knew I had found the perfect teacher,
Enrico is a motivating teacher.
He challenges you to learn what you need by reading and discussing interesting materials he sends .it isn't just not doing verbs exercises and tenses but actually participating in actual situations as if you were in Italy .
Enrico quickly helps you get over the nervousness that students experience when reading out loud and discussing the meaning of words in sentences and their uses.

Over time my research background has infused some serious curiosity to understand the underlying science behind the art of cooking (do you know what is the secret to delicious Indian food - is it the minimum overlap of flavors in ingredients!!) and have started rethinking th
e recipes e.g. try making bread pakoda (fritter) keeping bread in the inner core and potato paste on outside instead of traditional way of doing it other way round...does it taste better and easier to coat with the wet gram flour for frying??). Cooking for me has become an endless joyful journey filled with learning and experimentation...always refreshing. Now, I try to share/teach my cooking experiences/excursions with others as time permits.

I had a wonderful time learning with Adriana before my recent trip to Italy. It was my first time, and I thought it would be nice to know some useful phrases before I went. Not only is Adriana an excellent teacher of the Italian language (I was only able to just tap into her expertise given the little time I gave us before my trip), but she also has extensive knowledge of Italian culture. My time in Italy was so much more meaningful thanks to our lessons. I can't recommend her highly enough! Buon divertimento!

You may think this is interesting, but I am the owner of a home bakery. I sell baked goods from my home and deliver to my customers...

That's what I do during the day. In the evening, I love to teach young people how to cook. Actually, it doesn't matter how old you are; if you can handle cooking utensils, follow some helpful instruction and read a recipe, you got this!

I come from a family of cooks from way back in the day. I was taught, starting at age 6, how to cook in the kitchen and handle small knives. I had my own special knife for chopping and slicing vegetables and fruits. That's all she would allow me to do for a long while. Then, my mom slowly introduced me to new things, like boiling eggs and making gravy and homemade biscuits. Not much came from a box or can back then. I learned a lot about the foundation of making a wonderf
ul meal...prep work.

It sounds a bit off-putting, but if you invest in a few handy kitchen tools, prep can be pretty easy, and a little fun! That's part of what my students will learn in my classes.

I am a learner. I love to learn! If I'm not learning, I feel half alive. That's why I love cooking and baking. There is always something new to learn and see and do. It's hands-on, and that's my style of learning!

Many people can follow a recipe and cook a pretty good meal, but when it comes to looking into the fridge and the pantry and pulling something together, that's a whole different story. I love creating dishes that make my family wonder where I got the recipe from. When I say, "I just made it up!" That's a good feeling.

I not only want to teach students how to read a recipe and make a meal, I want to teach them some of the science behind cooking; why you should be careful when a recipe calls for salted or unsalted butter; or how to melt chocolate the old-fashioned way!

I'm very excited about taking this journey with each of my students. I love interacting with people and fostering a loving community.
