Hi I’m Lauren! I'm an artist and creator of Explaurenarts. I've taught over 550 lessons on this platform and more on my own website!! I have been involved in the arts for almost 10 years now! I graduated May 2020 from the College of Saint Benedict with a bachelors degree in Art and Psychology. One of my goals is to spread the therapeutic attributes of art to those I cross paths with.

I started becoming artistic in high school when I took my first painting class. I fell in love with art soon after that class ended and took drawing, photography, ceramics and eventually an independent study in art before I moved on to college.

It followed me into the College of Saint Benedict where I learned how to paint realistic portraits of people and animals to still-life object paintings. I am very fond on painting realistically but always branch out to stay creative and expressive! I also love drawing, drawing with charcoal is very messy but so fun! Ask me about reductive charcoal drawings, these are my favorite. Lastly, I am extremely fond of pottery. I am able to teach handbuilding techniques if you have a local pottery kiln near you!

Psychology is an interest of mine because I love working with people. I originally thought I would become an art therapist because I truly think art can ease and heal many things given the right atmosphere and attitude! Art is so powerful! Now my hope is to bring art to people in the same way but in less of a medical setting but rather in a classroom atmosphere or the comfort of your own home! 

I do prefer either online lessons or traveling to you because my studio space is limited. Also having your own materials for an online lesson will be required, if we meet in person I can bring materials if needed. Most clients wish to use their own based on their wishes for what they want to create. If you want to get creative and enjoy learning in a relaxing environment then you are in the right place!

We will be covering the second portion of Journal Making Pt 1 where you may learn how to bind your own journal! We will have at this point created the cover and punched the holes into the pages. We will not cover the coptic stitch and bind our journal. Materials for this class will be needed prior to beginning this class.

Materials Needed:
Natural Hemp Cord waxed or unwaxed (Color of choice)
Mod Podge glue
Bookbinding Awl
Atleast 25 sheets of 8.5" x 11" card stock 70lb paper (White or color of choice)
Curved C shape bookbinding needle- either size 2.5 cm , 3 cm or 3.5 cm 
Mat board/Chip board (enough to cut two 8.5" x 11" pieces)
Paint brush for glue
Razor blade
Cutting board
Ruler

My daughter really enjoyed her lesson and we look forward to more in the future!

I appreciated her jump-in attitude and having ideas to work with. As an advanced beginner artist, I learned a few tips to help me along on a gift project for my Aunt & Uncle's 60th Diamond Anniversary.

Lauren is very good at educating my daughter about all the different sketching techniques and how to apply them in her sketches.

She was very sweet and knowledgeable. Our time together flew by. I felt like I learned what I came to learn. But will continue lessons with her.

Had some technology issues on my end getting started, but we got it resolved and she made sure I got the full 30 minutes after we got going. Very helpful and focused on what my goals are and how I want to proceed. Thanks so much!

Lauren taught several watercolor lessons with my 11yo daughter and we could not be more pleased. She is very intuitive and professional. She is extremely kind and my daughter looks forward to her lessons.
