Josh G.

Austin, TX

About Josh

Hello everyone, my name is Josh. I have been playing guitar for over 15 years now and have had a successful teaching career for over 4 years. I have a music degree with a focus on blues, jazz and classical guitar. I also play rock, folk, pop, and just about anything you want to learn. I sing and play, improvise, and write my own music. Music is my life and I love being able to share every bit of knowledge I have with my students. It is a blast to watch my students progress and get excited about guitar.

As a player, I learned what to avoid and what to utilize in order to accelerate m
y playing as quickly as possible and you will save time and limit frustration with my methods. I will teach you how to practice, which is the single most important part of learning. Effective practice yields great results for everyone. Often teachers will only explain the "how"; I teach the "how" and the "why" so you will have ample knowledge to grow and explore on your own.

*** Lesson Details ***
I will teach you to play the songs/styles that you love. I provide my own transcription of each song and explain and demonstrate each element. Learn how to read music, create rhythms for strumming, build your chord knowledge, improvise, train your ear and understand song structures. We will coordinate a lesson plan that will fit your schedule and accelerate your learning.

I keep my lessons fun and upbeat, but with a focus. I ensure full comprehension of all subjects covered, and make sure that each student is challenged and learning constantly.

My main word of advice is "Be patient." Learning an instrument takes time, practice and is a gradual process that is rewarding beyond words. Acknowledge every little improvement in your playing because that is what we want. I promote a minimum of 2-3 separate 30 minute practice sessions. There's no reason to put it off any longer. Let's get started!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Plenty of parking, music stands, amp, extra picks, tuners, a comfortable setting, great attitude, and seating for parents. Students only need to have their guitar and a notebook.

For Online: Logitech C920, dual cam, good sound quality and lighting, and fast bandwidth

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide music stands, extra picks, a tuner and a great attitude. Students only need to have their guitar and a notebook.

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.

Been a student of Josh's for a few months now and feel very fortunate to have found him. His attention to detail, continuity between sessions, and obvious broad knowledge base are a few of the elements making this a very rewarding learning experience. I am learning to read music, understand music theory, and develop technique. I have very much looked forward to each lesson which Josh takes the time and effort to build upon with clear assignments and follow up. Josh is highly personable, professional and supportive. I highly recommend Josh.

Excellent, safe and trustworthy.

Josh has been the best guitar teach I have had (I have had three others in the past). He is exceedingly patient, flexible and very knowledgeable about the subject, for both theory and practice.

I have a better understanding of the mechanics, style and technique of classical guitar than I had coming in and have learned some really excellent pieces. Josh works at my pace and understands when work and 'life' interfere with my ability to practice during the week.

The piano lesson is for my daughter Laetitia. I never stayed with her when she had her piano class so I can't make any comment on Susanna. So far my daughter is still interested on playing piano and she practice is every day with fun. Susanna told my husband that she will buy some new music book for her so I guess Laetitia really enjoy her piano class.

*** Lesson Details ***
I begin each lesson with vocal exercises. Then we will move on to music theory, sight singing and musician ship. The last segment of our lesson will be devoted to repertoire study. To get the most out of lessons with me I recommend at least an hour of practice outside of lessons each week.

I use a variety of different song books for my students depending on their voice type, age and preferred genre of study. After 6 months with me students can expect to understand basic singing technique and be seeing a significant change in their sound. Students who choose to incorporate musicianship/theory/sight singing into lessons with me can expect, at minimum, to understand how to read music, basic music notation, note names, key signatures, time signatures, rhythm, solfege syllables, major and minor scales, and basic harmonic relationships.

Singing is a physical and full-bodied experience, so be ready to move and be silly with me sometimes. The voice is different than any other instrument because we don'™t have strings, buttons, or valves to press to help us achieve the right sound. Our instrument is inside our bodies. The voice is a very complicated instrument, and thus, in my opinion, is much more rewarding than many other instruments to master. Please come to my lessons planning to work hard and have fun!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboard repertoire books, and seating for parents or other respectful observers

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my student to be able to provide a piano or weighted keyboard with a bench for me. I provide a mirror, music, and a CD player if necessary.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical voice training and believe this style of singing to be an imperative source of proper singing and breathing technique that can be used to train singers of all genres.

Lindsey is an encouraging, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and talented singing teacher and performer! Before Lindsey relocated to Texas, I took lessons with her for about 10 months. I always loved singing, but I never took any private lessons until I discovered Lindsey on takelessons. After a few months learning from Lindsey, I was able to widen my range, correct my breathing techniques, and learn the fundamentals of harmony and sight singing. Lindsey’s lessons were always fun and informative. She also gave me the confidence to audition for a Vocal Ensemble. After several weeks of audition preparation with Lindsey, I surprisingly made it into the group! If you are looking for a fun and educated singing teacher, Lindsey is for you!

I took lessons from Moses from the ground up. Starting in 8th grade. His lessons were structured to be simple, easy to grasp, songs that I like. So the practice was fun in the early stage and he helped me through every stage. I learned from him for over two years. As the music that I was playing became more complex and speedy (I am a metal player as well as others) he was teaching me theory so I understood why things sounded the way they did. He has a good understanding of multiple genres. He taught me songs and licks in other genres. Rock, blues, metal, jazz, and classical. I am currently pursuing a degree in music education for classical guitar. He first instilled the love of music that I have had in the guitar for over 6 years now. He is great for beginners, or experienced players to step up their game. Great teacher
