Max was a great teacher. I walked in wanting to learn better soloing techniques for my bluegrass guitar. With Max's help, I got over several humps in my playing and solo creating skills. If you're looking for a solid teacher that listens to what you have to say, Max is your teacher.

About Josh
Hi there! My name is Josh. I have been playing guitar for the majority of my life and have been teaching since 2010. I have a music degree with a focus on classical guitar and I play rock, blues, jazz, folk, pop, and just about anything you want to learn. Whether your goals are to strum and sing, improvise, learn classical guitar or rock, or understand music theory, I want to help you reach them. Music is my life and I love being able to share every bit of knowledge I have with my students. It is a blast to watch my students progress and get excited about guitar.

As a player, I learned what to avoid and what to utilize in order to accelerate my playing as quickly as possible and you will save time and limit frustration with my methods. I will teach you how to practice, which is the single most important part of learning. Effecti
ve practice yields great results for everyone. Often teachers will only explain the "how"; I teach the "how" and the "why" so you will have ample knowledge to grow and explore on your own.

*** Lesson Details ***
I will teach you to play the songs/styles that you love. I provide my own transcription of each song and explain and demonstrate each element. Learn how to read music, create rhythms for strumming, build your chord knowledge, improvise, train your ear and understand song structures. We will coordinate a lesson plan that will fit your schedule and accelerate your learning.

I keep my lessons fun, upbeat and with a focus on each student's goals. I ensure full comprehension of all subjects covered, and make sure that each student is challenged and learning constantly.

My main word of advice is "Be patient." Learning an instrument takes time, practice and is a gradual process that is rewarding beyond words. Acknowledge every little improvement in your playing because that is what we want. I recommend a minimum of 2-3 separate 30 minute practice sessions. There's no reason to put it off any longer. Let's get started!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Plenty of parking, music stands, amp, effects pedals, extra picks, tuners, a comfortable setting, great attitude, and seating for parents. Students only need to have their guitar and a notebook.

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.

My experiences with Josh have been great. I have played guitar for many years, but my approach has always been lacking in relation to technique. Josh has helped me form a better mechanical understanding of my posture and movements. The adjustments he has helped me make have resulted in less stress on my fingers, wrist, and arms. He has always been thoroughly prepared for lessons. I would absolutely recommend Josh, especially for new musicians who want to learn their instrument in a fundamentally sound and detail oriented manner.

Been a student of Josh's for a few months now and feel very fortunate to have found him. His attention to detail, continuity between sessions, and obvious broad knowledge base are a few of the elements making this a very rewarding learning experience. I am learning to read music, understand music theory, and develop technique. I have very much looked forward to each lesson which Josh takes the time and effort to build upon with clear assignments and follow up. Josh is highly personable, professional and supportive. I highly recommend Josh.

About Kylee
Hello! My name is Kylee, and I am a professional flutist and teacher in the Austin area.
I moved here about six months ago to pursue the wonderful teaching opportunities, and I'm having such a great time!

I received my Masters in Flute Performance at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, and my Bachelors in Flute Performance from Duquesne University. I am originally from Pittsburgh!

I feel so lucky to have such a fulfilling and varied career in music. I grew up with many people telling me how difficult it was to have a career in music, and I'm so glad that I stuck with it!
Is is challenging, but with some perseverance and drive, you can create your own career just like I did!
Right now I am frequently performing with the San Antonio Symphony which is amazing, teaching full-time, and doing some small gigs in nursing home
s and churches! I'm really living the dream.

Throughout my career, I have won numerous competitions including the James Pellerite Orchestral Excerpt Competition, Tuesday Musical Club Scholarship Competition, Women's Advisory Board Scholarship Competition, Duquesne University Wind Concerto Competition, Butler County Symphony's Young Artist Competition, and was a finalist in the United States Army 'Pershing's Own' National Collegiate Solo Competition.
I am also one of 3 Finalists for the Mid-South Flute Society Young Artist Competition, and will be competing next month at the University of Memphis.

My goal is to make you love music and get better at your instrument! My studio will be very kind and nurturing but also competitive. Whether you are preparing for TMEA All-state or just want to get better at flute, I can help! :)

I understand that everyone is at different levels, and my lessons will cater to your level and how serious you are about flute.

If you want more intense lessons to prepare you for college auditions or other things, great! In these lessons, we will prepare with site reading, mock auditions, recording, duets, and more.

If you just want to learn how to play your favorite songs on flute, great!

I've been teaching privately for 5 years, have excellent training from professionals, and years of experience performing and creating a career out of music.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!

Happy fluting,
Kylee

I am the conductor of the Bloomington Chamber Singers. Kylee performed with my orchestras for a number of years while she lived in Bloomington and also played a number of times during worship services at the church where I direct the music program. Kylee is first and foremost, a masterful technical musician who understands her instrument deeply, and is keenly aware of style and the challenges of ensemble playing. She also is a warm, creative, and caring individual respected by all around her. I recommend her highly and know that anyone who studies with her will discover new talents within themselves.

Kylee has been coming to our adult day program since she first came to Bloomington to attend the Jacobs School of Music. Throughout her graduate work she was a regular visitor to our small program. Not only did she perform beautifully, but she engaged with us....teaching us about flute playing, various aspects of the instruments she plays, background on types of music, and she built relationships with us. We were happy to celebrate with her when she got her new absolutely gorgeous flute! She is warm, has great communication skills, invites questions and learning. She was FAR more than a performer here, she was invested in us and we were happy to adopt her during her time in Bloomington. Kylee's demeanor, musical excellence and personality make her an excellent fit for lessons or events. We HIGHLY recommend working with her!

About Chi-Hui
I am a professional cellist. I started teaching both private piano and cello lessons since 15 years ago, and I still have great passion toward teaching. When I teach music, I want students to learn to express their emotions through music. Essentially, I wish music education would help people to find that having music around is one of the most wonderful thing in the world.

I hold a DMA degree in cello performance from Michigan State University. I started playing piano at the age of 5. My minor is piano performance until finishing my undergraduate studies in Taiwan. I started teaching private music lessons since then. When I finished my undergraduate studies, I became a certificated teacher in music. Since I moved to the US to study, I have also been teaching private piano lessons in Boston. My students are aged from 3 to 65 years old.

Thank you for your time and attention to my profile. I hope to have a chance to share my love in music with you.

Adam is helping me get back to playing guitar after some 40 years in which I did not play at all. With his help, I’m refreshing what I used to know (basic chords and notes on the staff), and extending my skills into new areas, like finger-picking, barre chords, and tablature-reading--plus learning a lot of new songs. He’s an excellent teacher.

As a middle aged man trying to learn an instrument, it was a daunting task to find a teacher that would work with me to learn the basics of guitar without laughing at my inability to actually play the darn thing.

Adam has been a great teacher and exactly the sort of professional and understanding person I was looking for. While I don't think my mediocre (getting better every week) guitar skills are the best testament to Adam's ability as a teacher, I think the fact that he has encouraged me to stick with it and turn a crazy idea into a legitimate hobby is.

As an instructor I have two goals with every one of my students.

1. To find what they love about the instrument and use that to build on practice/knowledge.

2. To teach them to know the instrument, as well as how to play their favorite music.

It was these two things that helped encourage my own music journey and I think they are incredibly helpful to keep anyone on an accelerated path.

When I was first learning the guitar, I quit. I didn't want to learn my scales, I didn't want to practice The Beatles (I was 13, cut me some slack!), and I didn't want to play like my instructor. It took me over a year to get back into it, which I only did because I found my drive to learn the instrument. Once I did, I came to the realization that I really only knew how to play songs on an instrument, but I didn't really understand the instrume
nt itself. It was this that lead me to learn my scales and yes, eventually a few Beatles songs in the end!

The most important thing about playing guitar is having fun. Knowing how to play popular songs, jam with other musicians, and create your own songs helps you have the most fun possible.
Learning the guitar can be a lifetime journey of exploration.
Choosing a teacher is very important.
I like to start with learning about the student to get an idea of their abilities and interests.
When you really want to learn something, you need to approach an expert in that field.
I like to say I've been learning to play the guitar for over 40 years now. No matter how much you've learned there's always more. How far you go on that journey is up to you, but I can help give you a start and the tools to go as far as you'd like. Even great guitarists have mentors that help push them to be better players.
I still remember that first time I heard an el
ectric guitar, a Fender Telecaster on a Twin Reverb, way back in 1978. I had been playing clarinet for 5 years before picking up a guitar. This gave me a great foundation in music and discipline.
Besides playing guitar, I've run a recording studio, record label, and publishing business. I've played on TV and radio as well as a wide variety of live gigs.
I was originally inspired by listening to blues by Mance Lipscomb and Muddy Waters with a desire to play guitar, but I quickly fell in love with Rock'n Roll and the electric guitar. I was lucky enough to hear the classic song's of the '70s before they were classics and had them imprinted in my receptive ears. I was their student and they were my teacher.
I was living near Santa Cruz and doing a lot of coffee shop gigs when I met Bob Brozman, considered the master of National resonators, and became inspired to learn more about finger picking and slide from him.
When I started my record label I worked with an old blues artist, Robert Lowery, that further deepened my knowledge of country blues.
Before the digital era, when you made a copy of something, the quality was never the same as the original, though it may be good. By the time you copied the copy of a copy, it got completely lost. The same can be said about music: the energy of the original songs that inspired covers and variations gets diluted. You've got to connect the roots with the leaves to make them alive.
There are hordes of guitarists that can dutifully copy other music they hear and present it nicely. Those that can also create original music and play their instrument in an original style are much rarer.
Beginner or experienced, let me help you get more out of your journey learning the guitar.
