About Joseph
I am a special education public school teacher. I also teach private music students. Since I am used to working with Individualized Education Plans for school students, (IEP"s), I work hard to find what works for each student. My students and I have a lot of fun finding their "sweet spots" in learning music. Seeing them smile after learning a music lesson really makes my day! Our next generation is a joy to instruct, but music rewards students of all ages. Please send me a question by TakeLessons.com e-mail system, or call them to start!

About Jeannine
Hi! Thanks for visiting the about the teacher page. I’m Jeannine. I’m a graduate of Berklee College of Music with 15 years of professional teaching experience in an abundance of settings. As a private educator, I’ve been employed at top music schools throughout the northeast teaching voice, piano, and songwriting, while simultaneously working extensively as a recording artist, composer, and performer. I’ve taught and/or directed over 1,000 students from the ages of 2.5-87.

Along with teaching privately, I hold a CE in K-12 Music in NJ, and have worked in classrooms ranging from Pre-K to Middle School. I have experience working with students with learning disabilities, having worked for 4 years as a middle school music and band teacher at the Churchill School in Manhattan (a school specializing in language based learning disabilitie
s and ADD/ADHD). I studied pedagogy at the graduate level at Hunter College in NYC, and have served as a music director and accompanist for countless school productions at the middle and high school level.

In my own music career, I’ve worked comprehensively in the industry as a songwriter, performer and recording artist. I’ve released two albums of my original music, and have written, recorded, and arranged for numerous independent and label-signed acts throughout the US. I’ve toured nationally, appearing with grammy nominated and award winning artists, while working regularly performing at weddings, corporate events, and restaurants.

My students range from hobbyist musicians to budding professionals. Many are involved in music additionally through school and community, and most audition and perform on a regular basis. Past students have gone on to study music in college and perform at the professional level, releasing their own albums, and appearing as contestants on competitive singing shows. I forge long-lasting relationships with my students, and have worked with all of my current students for years.

I can assist in in preparation for college auditions, state and regional competitions, and musical theater auditions (as well as provide accompaniment for any of these situations).

Additionally, I am available to provide tutoring for AP music theory, placement, and PRAXIS exams.

Nathan has taught my children ages 5 and 7, and he has been utterly wonderful. Very patient with a nice dry sense of humor that my kids really enjoyed. He had the perfect balance of allowing the kids to learn at their own pace while pushing them to do more each week. It didn't take long for my older child to learn to read music on the staff and then play it, and he even encouraged her to write her own music! Meanwhile our younger child got into a groove where he always wanted to be the first to practice. Along with his reliability and ease, that all is the sign of a great teacher.

I am so glad that you are looking into finding a voice teacher who fits your unique style, personality, and being. I love teaching voice. I love seeing my students go from where they are when they first arrive in my studio to auditioning with confidence, or singing in Broadway shows and bands, recording albums, and participating in open mics with ease and grace. It is my sincere hope to create a singer in every family! Maybe if we have a singer in every family, there will be less violence in our sometimes turbulent world. Since 1998, I have taught students of all ages in multiple genres. Many of my alumni have gone on to become voice and music theatre majors at some of the most prestigious programs in the USA, as well as becoming professional performing and recording artists all around the world, so I have gone online so that I can reach out to my students anywhere on Earth!

Online lessons allow us to work together without having to waste time traveling to my studio, not to mention wasting money on transit, tolls, gas or parking. Additionally, it has allowed me to offer my lessons for considerably less than I did "in-person." In addition to singing lessons, I've also worked with online students on monologues, on-camera instructional videos and voiceovers.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

My daughter has expressed a love for music and singing from a very early age. As a parent, I thought she had a beautiful voice and that was confirmed by a good friend of mine who recommended me to Steven. I started Olivia with Steven when she was 9 years old. Through his instruction and guidance her voice has grown tremendously. She was awarded a major role as a 5th grader in her school play and then went on to be the lead as a 6th and 7th grader. She was the youngest student in the history of the school to earn a lead role.

Olivia also auditioned for the Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Conservatory and was accepted for their August Intensive program. I have no doubt that it was Steven's teaching that helped her with her audition that gained her acceptance.

Olivia is now 12 and as a young person, needs to learn how to interpret a song so that she can perform it well. Steven takes the time to teach the MEANING of the words and explains the story that is trying to be told. This was very important for Olivia to learn.

I highly recommend working with Steven. He is a fabulous teacher with a lot of knowledge and insight.

About Francois
Hello again!

Singing is about passion. It is about engaging the spirit of a work or a song and finding what that means for you. Maybe you're just starting out in your journey and want to develop a reliable technique. Maybe you sing every so often but you want to get serious. Maybe you'd like your child to get that role, that solo, or simply have them develop into a professional singer. Maybe you want to sing solos in your faith group, friend's wedding, karaoke, or just want to pursue a passion!

If so, you've come to the right place.

I can teach you the basics of singing which lie in breathing and supporting the breath as it escapes your body in the making of sounds in the form of words.

The technical side is important but so is the expressive side. It is important to tell a story when you sing and be convinced of that story yourself.
That is why I encourage people to sing songs that mean something to you.

If you would like to refine your technique, develop the technique, or just add to your ability to sing, then do contact me and let's set up a lesson to see how I can help your voice soar!

Make a great day and hope to hear from you soon!

François

Jeanmarie helped me to learn the proper way to hold the cello and the bow. She watched carefully to be sure I maintained that throughout the lesson. I am pleased that she is going to be sure I learn to play the cello well to prevent injuries. She also gave me some very basic bowing and finger exercises to practice this first week so I begin to build correct muscle memory before I go on to working with sheet music.
