If you are looking to book lessons in your home, I am available to travel farther on a case by case basis. Please messsage me using the Ask a Question button near my profile picture.

I am experienced with all ages from 5 - adult and have been teaching lessons for many years. I began as a volunteer in High School and built a larger private base of students while in college. I have played lead guitarist/singer/songwriter roles in several rock bands, including my current rock band The Rift, as well as participated in award winning ensembles of all varieties (Jazz Bands, Wind Symphonies, Marching Band, Symphonic Band). Despite a background rich in performance, teaching is my foremost skill and profession. In addition to lessons, I've taught in the classroom setting and at summer camps. I was the first Popular Music and Jazz Major to g
raduate from the University of Rochester/Eastman School of Music. Currently, I'm completing my Master's Degree at Hunter College in Manhattan in Music Education while maintaining a flexible schedule as to accommodate new students.

I maintain a fun, understanding, patient, and straightforward approach to help you play what you want, while building essential techniques and skills using music of your choosing. In younger students this often perpetuates enthusiasm and develops taste. I also tutor music theory, composition, and/or songwriting, and upon request, will bring those skill sets into the lesson curriculum. I prefer to come to you, but am willing to host and have before. I will produce additional references and a resume upon request. If you commit to practicing and your lesson curriculum, you can expect noticeable improvement and a solid base of knowledge and essential skills, achieved through the music you love.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano; Fender Hot Rod 40W Tube Amp; Acoustic 15 W Solid State; Yamaha USB compatible keyboard; 5.1 surround sound with 40" monitor; Mac Mini; Multiple electric and acoustic guitars; USB Condenser Mic, Garageband and Logic Studio; Intel iMac; Buffet Tenor Saxophone, Yamaha Y-62 Alto Saxophone, Bundy II Alto Saxophone for rent

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have my own instrument, tuner, cables, etc. I generally expect my students to provide their own instrument, and be willing to purchase a few basic materials (book for lesson entries, one other instructional book). I'm a minimalist when it comes to this. I am always willing to consult on instruments, materials, or anything other query's you may have outside lessons, via phone or e-mail.

*** Specialties ***
As per my degree, I am especially knowledgeable regarding popular music, rock and roll, and jazz. I hold student recitals every year and I've had many students perform, as well as write their own music and gain a solid knowledge of beginner music theory. My education and experience have been comprehensive, and I am versatile within all genres of music.

Learning the Ins and Outs of Guitar Playing

I must say that I am please with Jamie's technique and patience with me. Jamie is very knowledgable and shares some of his secrets (not shortcuts mind you) that help in learning to master the acoustic guitar. He leaves you with valuable lessons and exercises that can do nothing but improve on how you play the guitar. I'm looking forward to continuing my lessons with Jamie.

I treat
each student individually, catering to specific goals and needs that we will decide upon and plan together. Some students want to seriously study a craft. Others want a hobby that will be fun and interesting. I have had success teaching to both, and will impart basic fundamentals and musicianship to all types of students.

I see my primary job as keeping the student inspired, intellectually fed and sprinting in the right direction. The student's job is to do the work. Daily practice is essential to move forward in any craft.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My Brooklyn studio is a dedicated music space with two drum sets, PA, amplifiers and recording capabilities.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide books, a drum pad, sticks or mallets, an iPod with two sets of headphones, and a metronome. Additionally, I can bring small hand drums, special instruments and percussion that might be needed for specialty lessons. I expect students to have some sort of pad or drum to practice on at home; a full drum set is not necessary.

Rob was an awesome teacher and even better guy. The lesson environment was comfortable, but always focused and professional. He's clearly a hugely talented musician and has a ton to offer in the way of teaching; perhaps more importantly though, his love of music inspires the student to practice and learn. Very highly recommended.

About Bobby
I am a jazz trumpeter, improviser, and composer as well as an avid listener and enthusiastic educator. I maintain an active performance schedule playing improvised music as well as funk, soul, afro-beat, reggae, hip-hop, and American folk music. In addition to trumpet, I have experience performing and recording on slide trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, and french horn. I write and arrange music for my own groups and regularly write and record horn arrangements for folk, pop, and reggae groups. I have attended Berklee College of Music and Ithaca College, and I have a Master's degree in jazz trumpet performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

I have over nine years of experience working with students ages 7 to adult. I have worked both from my home studio and though several public and community music school program
s including the Hudson Arts Alliance in Hudson, MA, the Kittredge Elementary School in North Andover, MA, and the Performing Arts Center of Metro West in Framingham, MA. I have studied jazz performance with trumpet greats John McNeil and Walter White, improvisation with jazz gurus David Schumacher and Jerry Bergonzi, and George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization with master composer and theorist Ben Schwendener.

As an educator, my aim is to inspire in my students an enthusiasm for the artistic performance of music of any style. I strive to convey my own excitement for the art to young trumpeters and improvisers, and I have worked to encourage self-motivation and a longstanding interest in musical self-expression in elementary through high school students and adults. I have experience performing many styles of music from jazz and experimental improvised music to funk, reggae, and afro-beat, and I use my knowledge of divergent genres to encourage creative experimentation and convey the expressive artistic elements shared by all music. As an improviser I am particularly interested in teaching the theory and philosophy of spontaneous composition and musical communication.

My 11 yo son has been taking trumpet lessons with Bobby for about half a year now. We are so glad to have found Bobby, as he is an extremely professional, knowledgeable and dedicated instructor. He is always timely and thorough with his lessons. Bobby finds music pieces which are just challenging enough for my son, and my son seems to enjoy his time with Bobby. I also like his balance between teaching music theory and instrument instruction. Bobby explains concepts clearly, and relates well to my son, with a sense of humor and patience. My son has clearly improved in just a few months, and we cannot be happier!

Elizabeth is a great teacher. I am very impressed with how she continues to move my child forward with learning to play without my daughter really even knowing it. She is very patient with her and also goes with the flow. If my daughter wants to spontaneously create a new song Elizabeth will go with it and even create a chart so they can play it properly. Very much looking forward to continuing more lessons with Elizabeth and watching my daughter grow with her.

About Nicole
Hi there! I am a singer, actor, songwriter, collaborator, and redhead based in Brooklyn. Currently in an Off-Broadway show at New World Stages, I have kept busy performing since graduating from NYU Tisch in 2009 with a BFA in Drama.

I have worked as a resident artist at various music programs, including Willie May Rock Camp and Abron Arts Center, and have been teaching private voice with NYU theatre students and professional actors for the last few years, specializing in freeing and finding your individual voice through exploration of music you LOVE to sing.

I love working with kids who want to learn to sing, those who have a ton of creative energy but nowhere to focus it (yet!), folks who have never sung before but have always wanted to, actors who would like to improve their singing technique and repertoire, and more! If you play
an instrument and want to work on singing while accompanying yourself, or if you want to work on songwriting, we can incorporate those things into lessons as well. Truly everything is fair game if it is going to make you feel awesome. I especially love working with pop/folk/rock/contemporary musical theatre genres.

I believe in building confidence through singing, no matter your experience level, and I am here to lend guidance, support, and an empathic ear. Singing should be fun, not anxiety-producing, and we can work on dropping bad habits, loosening up, and freeing your natural gifts!

Nicole is an absolutely wonderful teacher. I came to Nicole as an actor, not necessarily to learn to be a broadway singer, but rather to learn more technical tools to strengthen my vocal abilities as a performer, as well as boost my confidence in my singing voice. In a very short time she has been able to help me learn to use my body and breath in an effective, healthy manner when I sing; tools that I have also been able to translate to my work on stage. I am constantly surprised by her ability to help me find new approaches to vocal challenges, allowing me to take on music I would not otherwise have felt confident with. Plus she is just a delight to work with, and makes you feel absolutely supported. I would highly recommend her to actors and singers at any level looking to strengthen their skill set.
