My goal as a teacher is to make students successful in their goals. I work with a variety of people; some of them study music for personal enjoyment and others for their musical career. Everyone responds differently to music, that is why I prepare special lessons for each student. It is important that my students enjoy what they are playing and for that reason I have a variety of repertoire that they can choose from.
From a lot of experience with beginner piano students, both young and adults, I have been able to find a regimen of piano teaching that combines time efficiency with fun. As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are exiting and interesting. While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. My students, beginner intermediate and advanced levels, have been awarded for their performances and activities in schools and competitions.
I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

In my studio, I believe that my role is to steer students toward a deeper understanding of themselves, their instrument, and their relationship to music. I tailor my teaching to the needs of my individual students, who currently range from age 4 to adult, often adding improvisation and extended techniques to increase my students’ awareness of the potential of the flute as a channel for one’s creativity.

With over a decade of teaching and a doctorate in flute performance, I have extensive experience teaching flute lessons and recorder lessons to students from beginners to advanced. I teach at my studio in Brooklyn or can come to your home in New York City. I have previously taught in Colorado, Westchester, NY, and throughout New York City. I've been on faculty at The Harmony Program and the Denver Public School’s Saturday Music Program, where I taught beginning flute classes to public school children. I have given masterclasses at the University of Southern Maine and the Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School, and have taught music classes at Purchase College and Hostos Community College.

I bring my flute. Students need to have a music stand, music, a notebook, and a working instrument.

I am very laid back and friendly, and I want you or your child to be as comfortable as possible during our lessons. You or your child will develop confidence and musical intelligence. I will make your lessons fun, enjoyable, and effective. Boredom is not an option! Music is fun... let's keep it that way.

The teaching methods I use will be custom-tailored to your individual needs, personality and specific musical goals. If it's guitar or piano you want to learn, I want to get you playing exactly what you want to be playing as soon as possible. That's what you're here for, and that's what I'm here for. I will make it happen. If it's songwriting that you want to learn, I will help you access that place inside of you that is dying to express itself creatively, and will teach you techniques to harness that energy and translate it successfully into musical expression.

You can expect to learn all the basics of music theory, proper playing techniques, improvisation and spontaneous musical expression, and I will help you develop your "ear" so you can figure out songs you like just by listening to them. This is all about you and your goals, and I want you to achieve them in a fun and engaging way.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in pop, rock, classical, jazz, blues, folk, fingerstyle (guitar), etc. I also teach improvisation and songwriting, and try to develop the student's ear for figuring out songs they like on their own.

About Emilie
Love to sing? I am available to teach private lessons or group lessons. My goal as a voice teacher is to help you find your own voice and sound in a healthy way. For the past 12 years, I have been dedicated to singing. I am fascinated by the multiple facets of the human voice and its extraordinary power to communicate, inspire and heal.

Professional singer and touring artist, mostly working on the jazz and contemporary classical scene in New York, I also have my own solo voice project. I use loops, samplers and electronics to build songs on the spot (Village Voice 10 best Concerts of the Week.)

I have a BFA in Jazz Vocal Studies and a Certificate in Somatic Voice Level 1. I also teach music in French for children. I am a student for life myself and I always keep studying new techniques to enrich my lessons and help my students in
the best way. My rule number one is to be open minded and patient. Every student is different and has specific needs that can be addressed with the right technique.

I love to teach any level, from beginners to professionals.

Together we will work on:

- vocal technique to open your possibilities as a singer in a healthy way
- breathing and posture through yoga and relaxation exercises to free your voice and body
- musicianship: ear training, sight reading
- improvisation
- composition
- recording: record your own song
- repertoire (build your own repertoire, chart writing, arranging, transposing tunes)
- electronic device (loops, samplers)
- music toys
- audition preparation
- performance and stage preparation

I love to teach as much as I love to perform and I am always very inspired to meet new students and to help them develop their creativity with their own voice and sound.

About Tammy
I conduct group lessons for young children, which I am unable to state on my profile/list of services here. You can send me a message if you are interested in them!

I believe EVERYONE should have the opportunity to learn music, especially children, in a fun and enjoyable way! As someone who grew up around music (my mother is a music teacher!) I wish to give that chance to others.

I started playing the piano at around the age of four, and helped out as a substitute teacher at my mother's music school back in Singapore while in High School. I left shortly after to pursue music at Berklee College of Music, where I graduated summa cum laude in August 2013 with a Bachelor's of Music in Piano Performance and Contemporary Writing and Production!

My students range from as 3.5 years old, to the grandmother of a couple of my students. I wo
rk mostly with children, but have a handful of adult beginner students I work with as well.

Everyone is different - and I personally take the time and effort to develop and customize my lessons and materials for each student. I'll push you (a little!), to make you realize just how much you can do!

Music is an all-rounded experience. Not only can I offer you a chance to learn how to play different styles of piano, from jazz to pop to classical, but I can also teach you how to write your own songs, arrange them, and perhaps (if you like) record them!

I love teaching and I love singing! I'm a listener, and love bringing a fun and creative tone to my lessons while teaching the highest level of healthy technique and style. My students are usually focused on a goal: singing for fun or meditative purposes, going for auditions or performances, and recording and touring at a professional level. They've appeared on multiple stages around the world, including as a finalist on The Voice (Ireland). I taught voice and performance for several years at a university in Europe, as well as in workshops with a lot of different community organisations.

I've studied the following voice and movement practices, too: Alexander Technique, Estill Voice Training, Speech Level Singing, Pop Vocals, Experimental Voice, Trigger Point Therapy, Yoga, Pilates, Contemporary Dance.

By taking lessons with me, no
t only are you contributing to your own music-making, but you're essentially becoming a patron for me as I travel around writing music for commissions and doing shows. I love teaching online because I get to share the excitement of all of this with you!

I’ve been taking singing lessons from Rachel for over a year now. All of my sessions have been online, and I’ve been super happy with my progress and her teaching style.

The classes are structured around my own interests (specific songs, breath control, body technique, etc.), and she’s always ready to answer questions. I don’t have any formal background in musical theory, but I’ve been able to still learn so much from her. I should also mention these classes have been a god-send for my public speaking (I don’t lose my voice anymore and can project easily now).

Rachel is easygoing and has been flexible with me and my schedule changes (you just have to give her some notice). I would definitely recommend her to anyone just starting out like I did—she’s experienced, knowledgeable and professional. :)

I love that she always gives me an option on what I do or don't want to do at the moment, but still pushes me to challenge myself. I get to sing the songs I like, and learn the things I need. It helps me stay an interested student. It's fun to train with her too, because Miss Austin knows how to lighten the mood but still keep me on track during lessons. I'd say that my voice's improvements in such a short time would have never happened without her.

I signed my 12yo up for voice lessons online with Rachel because a) I couldn't tolerate my child's 'singing' and b) our schedule is pretty crowded and we needed something flexible. My child has high functioning ASD and I honestly wasn't sure how well it would work as, up to this point, in-school/in-person music classes had failed to give her a sense of rhythm or even the ability to clap/chant/recite with a crowd. I am SO glad we went with Rachel's lessons!

I no longer cringe when my child offers to sing for me - in fact, it's enjoyable to listen to her now! My child now claps and sings in beat and with a crowd - something they weren't working towards but has clearly come from this work. It's worked really well for our crazy schedule too - Rachel is awesome about working with us and often sees our needs in advance (for instance just last week she asked to change the schedule so she could get another lesson in before my child auditioned for a musical theater slot - an audition she aced thanks to Rachel's work). We have gotten what we hoped for and more from Rachel's instruction!

Following my Bachelors degree, I completed a Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music and was awarded this in 2014.

I started teaching privately in 2010 and help students of all ages prepare for their exams (grades 1 to 8), auditions and other performances. I create tailored lesson plans for each student and teach both the performance and theory aspects in preparation for the exams. Most of my students are long-term students and have been learning with me for 3-4 years, with some up to 6 years. I take great pride in their success and my students have had a 100% success rate in the ABRSM exams.

In addition t
o teaching privately, I have also taught in various primary schools in the London Borough of Newham, teaching violin to students in years 5 and 6 (4th and 5th Grade) to take steps 1, 2 and grade 1 in the ECAM programme with the London College of Music and the University of West London. This involved designing lessons to ensure students were ready to take the final exams by end of term and varying teaching methods to ensure all learning styles were accommodated.

I have performed in New York City, London and France (including at the Merkin Concert Hall, LaMama Theatre, BBC Proms, the Barbican Centre and the Palace of Versailles) I was also invited to take part in the Philharmonia Orchestra ‘Infernal Dance’ chamber music series and was finalist in the Max and Peggy Morgan Competition run by the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London.

Other courses and qualifications that I have completed include: ‘Teaching the Violin and Viola: Creating a healthy foundation’ at Northwestern University, a Level 3 Teaching Assistant certification and a Child Protection Awareness programme.

Lidia is an extremely kind and helpful violin teacher, she really helps you to understand the things that you don’t necessarily get, she will go through all the steps with you explaining each of them throughly. I would definitely recommend her.

Lidia is an amazing teacher, genuinely wants to help you learn the violin. She taught my daughter (now 10 years old) for 4 years, enabling her to do well in all her ABRSM tests (from Grade 1 to Grade 4). Full of insight, patience, ideas, compassion and inspiration. Sadly she had to stop teaching my daughter recently as she had to leave London to go to New York. I would recommend her to anyone.

Learning Classical Guitar: Can I Use Tabs or Should I Read Music?
Whether you're brand new to guitar, or just new to classical guitar, you might be wondering, "what's the deal with tabs and sheet music?" Let guitar teacher Raymond L. clear up the fog and put you on the right path to classical guitar success... To get started, let's be sure to clearly distinguish standard musical notation from what we call nowadays "tab" notation. What is Tab? Feeling Bored? 3 Ways to Stay Motivated at the Piano
Are you getting bored or perhaps discouraged with playing the piano? In this week's guest post, Allysia from PianoTV.net shares three ways to stay motivated at the piano... We all know the drill with motivation. You listen to a great recording or live performance, and are filled with energy and enthusiasm. You rush to the piano and happily practice every day for a week, a month, or even longer. But then maybe you get bored, or hit a rough patch, and suddenly you can barely drag yourself ov
Piano Inspiration: 7-Year-Old Piano Prodigy Set to Release His First Album
When seven-year-old Jacob Velazquez sits at the piano bench his feet barely touch the floor, but he doesn't let that stop him. Jacob has been taking piano lessons since he was just four years old and has been called by many a “child prodigy” and “baby Beethoven.” But how did Jacob become such a skilled pianist at such a young age? It all started with a natural talent and a lot of practice. Who is Jacob Velazquez? Jacob is a classical pianist from Pembroke Pines, Florida. After hearing his f
How Often Should You Tune a Piano?
Just as you go to the doctor for check-ups from time to time, your piano needs maintenance and care throughout its life. You may notice, especially if you have a keen ear or a tendency to sing along with your practice, that your piano drops in pitch, particularly during the summer and winter months. This is because your piano is mostly made of wood, and your wooden soundboard will contract when the weather is drier -- or the heating is on! -- and cause the pitch of the strings to drop. While k
