Erin earned her bachelor of music degree at The Hartt School, and a master of music in horn at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She is currently freelancing in NYC on Broadway, and has played in venues from Carnegie Hall to the New York Public Library. As an expert in her field, Erin looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals. Erin's teaching style is fun, accessible, and tailored to the student's individual needs and goals.

I am a guitarist/composer/educator who holds a M.A. Jazz Performance degree from the Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College. I also have a B.A. Music degree with a concentration in classical guitar performance from Buffalo State College in my hometown of Buffalo, NY. However, most of my training and experience comes from playing many different styles of music with many brilliant musicians on the scenes of Buffalo and New York.
If there is just one thing I know about music, it is that playing music is supposed to be fun and satisfying! It is my job to help my students maintain that mindset as they navigate their way through the obstacles of musical growth.

In my 7-plus years of professional teaching experience I have encountered students from all walks of life. All of them have come from very diverse musical backgrounds and interests. I have taught students from ages 5 to 75 styles of music ranging from Metallica to Michael Jackson, Miles Davis to Justin Timberlake, and everything in between. I construct my lessons based on the student's skill level, musical taste, and personal goals. Students will be encouraged to learn the music that is aesthetically pleasing to them, while gaining knowledge of how to build a solid foundation in guitar playing and overall musicianship.
P.S. (to parents of younger students)
Studying music and learning an instrument has been proven to increase levels of focus and overall attention span in many young children. Several parents whose children I work with, ages 5-10 or so, have noticed attention and concentration levels trending upward in their child's other school work and activities as a result of studying music and learning the guitar!
My pricing shows only 30 minute and 60 minute rates. However, if you are interested in a 45 minute lesson or a lesson longer than 60 minutes we can certainly negotiate a price!

Exploring far beyond the well-trodden bossa nova path. Billy unearths the full range of styles the country offers, including choro, baiào, valsa and samba, and gives American audiences a rich panoramic glimpse into Brazilian art, highlighting its parallels with progressive jazz.
A recipient of composers residencies at Yaddo and MacDowell Colony, he is the curator of a three-day series at the club dedicated to the country's music. Billy will showcase his own group—a sextet with drummer Matt Kane, bassist Leco Reis, saxophonists Michael Attias and Eric Schugren and trumpeter Ben Holmes—in a concert primarily featuring his original works. Reviews of my Book on Alfred Brazil: Guitar Atlas, I love this series and this is the best of the six titles I have. Billy really knows his stuff; the analysis of time at the beginning is superb: something I now use in my teaching. This is definitely for intermediate and higher guitarists, but the pieces are worth the effort to get right, and the accompanying CD shows you what you are aiming for. This is as good as my other Brazilian guitar book (by Nelson Faria) and much more compact and easier to follow. Highly recommended!
This book is essential homework for students of Brazilian guitar. It is one of the best resources out there, along with Nelson Faria's "The Brazilian Guitar Book." The original etudes are not only instructional, but are nice pieces in their own right. An excellent value.

I've taught all levels over 20 years both in NYC and Brazil. I work with the material that the student wants and also through recordings and charts introduce much music that the student might have been unfamiliar with. My lessons are catered to the individual. There is no obstacle anyone has that is too great to work through. My approach to rhythmic training has helped many. I have simple way of breaking down the guitar fingerboard which can used as a guide to learn harmony. I'll get you into the horizontal aspects of guitar, traveling across the neck, making music across one string as well, mastering the guitar in a small fret range - " vertical position playing".

I have guitar for the student, either electric or nylon. Cavaquinho students bring their instrument. First time students must bring their instrument so I can see what they are playing on.

He was always punctual when arriving to rehearsals, scheduling rehearsals was a breeze, even with our packed schedules, and he was always prepared for each rehearsal with copies of the music I'd provided, as well as notes he'd gained by working through the music prior to the rehearsal.
He had a pleasant demeanor, and plenty of creative ideas for any places in the song that allowed for improvisation or personalization of the chords or phrasing. His accompaniment was the perfect companion to my singing, and could range many genres of music.
I also worked with him as the pianist in larger bands performing in the NYC area, and there as well, he was great to work with. Highly recommended! :)
I believe students, no matter the age, background, or means, can achieve great music making and enjoy a fun and satisfactory journey doing so. I am experienced in using Suzuki, Indiana String Pedagogy, some Kodaly, and my own method, to foster this learning. I have been teaching children ages 5-18, and adult students, for almost ten years now. Working at Fairview Elementary gave me a great introduction to group teaching in a classroom, which I hope to soon be able to build upon. I also have experience tutoring college students at the Oberlin Conservatory in music theory, ear training, and German. Teaching truly is a life-long passion of mine.
Augusta is an emerging classical and baroque violinist, performing internationally as both soloist and orchestral musician. She was winner of the 2014 Indianapo
In the 2015-2016 season, Augusta will perform as concerto soloist with the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, with the Bach A minor Violin Concerto. Augusta performs as an apprentice with Apollo's Fire and is a substitute violinist with Boston Baroque. She has collaborated on stage with members of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra during their Winter Institute, and was invited to play in a Tafelmusik masterclass for renowned violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch.
On modern violin she has worked under such conductors as Kurt Masur, Michael Tilson Thomas, Alan Gilbert, James Gaffigan, David Zinman, and Robert Spano.
Augusta holds a Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in violin performance, with a minor in historical performance, graduating at age 19 with honors (Pi Kappa Lambda Society). Her principal teachers were Milan Vitek (modern violin) and Marilyn McDonald (baroque violin). She currently is pursuing her Masters of Music in violin performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, under the tutelage of Alexander Kerr and Stanley Ritchie. She spent an exchange semester in 2011-12 at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, with Johannes Leertouwer and Sophie Gent.
She began her violin studies at the age of three with the Suzuki Violin School Method, continuing her studies in Moscow, Russia at the age of 12 with Zoya Makhtina of the Moscow Central Special Music School. Throughout her childhood, Augusta studied privately with Gregory Fulkerson and Almita and Roland Vamos.
Her related teaching coursework includes classes at Oberlin Conservatory and Indiana University, in pedagogy. She has studied string pedagogy methods with Mimi Zweig and Joanne Erwin. Augusta has extensive experience teaching students of all ages, in both private and group settings. She uses a combination of her own method, Suzuki, and String Pedagogy IU.

the privilege of studying with.
Instruction: Chris works at the level of his student. He doesn’t assume you have mastery in any skill and
works with you each week to build up a core set of basic skills. From an early point, Chris was able to
adapt to my level and show me fundamental skill building exercises.
Lesson Variety: Chris would teach different aspects to learning the guitar with each lesson. He would
supply any instrument or tool needed and would take the time to explain what each object does. At the
end of each lesson, I would feel confident in the material that was being taught, and felt that each
lesson was new and important. I’ve learned various rhythms, notes, styles of playing, and more.
Flexibility: Chris was very accommodating to my schedule. He was consistent and timely for each lesson,
and understanding when life circumstances would interfere. He works well at adapting to how you want
to learn, a key ingredient to being an effective instructor.
In summary, Chris was an excellent instructor, I learned a lot from his weekly lessons, and he is
just a straight-up nice guy. I would recommend him to anyone looking to learn how to play the guitar or

I was a weekly student for Chris, and I have to say that our lessons together we're always a great time for the both of us. I practiced with Chris for about two years, and in that time I never once felt like I was under some sort of pressure to get prepared for the next lesson. The reason for that is because Chris is the kind of teacher that makes you want to get better. Every time he left me an assignment of some sort, whether it be practicing blues progressions to recording a solo part to a rythym track, I could never help myself from getting to work the second he stepped out my front door. Chris truly created an atmosphere for me that made it easy to learn, and I'm the kind of person who has a hard time learning. I seriously recommend Chris not only because he is a great teacher but a great friend as well!
