Voice Lesson Guidelines and Aesthetics

I am pleased that you have decided to study voice. The art of singing has been part of my life for nearly two decades, and I am honored to pass my knowledge on to you. It is my hope to pass on a joy of singing to each student, whether you desire an education or career in music or just have a song in your heart. Below you can read guidelines and procedures to ensure voice lesson success.

2) 24 hour advance notice must be given to cancel a lesson. This policy is adopted to ensure respect for my time and to encourage the student to make voice lessons a priority. To cancel a lesson within 24 hours, please e-mail me or call. Lessons cancelled with 24 hours notice will be rescheduled. If less than 24 hours notice is given, the lesson will NOT be rescheduled and a refund will NOT be given. I understand and am sensitive to the fact that a student may wake up ill the day of a lesson. In such instances, we may be able to reschedule the missed lesson if the student did not attend school that day or has a note from their primary physician. If no notice is given to cancel a lesson and the student does not arrive within the first 10 minutes of their lesson time, I reserve the right to cancel the lesson with NO refund.

3) Students must keep a log of their daily practice time which must be signed by the parent (children 15 years and younger only). I will assign specific exercises at each voice lesson that MUST be practiced daily. This will ensure practice of new technique and diminish poor vocal habits and bad vocal models. This also allows the student to progress more rapidly during lessons.

4) Repertoire selection will be based on students technical needs and level of development. I am open to students singing in most styles, however there will be a strong emphasis on the classical literature because of its fundamentals in developing the healthiest technique.
Your vocal development is very important to me. With a daily regimen of vocalises and exercises, you can expect to grow to your fullest potential.

*** Studio Equipment ***
All students must use a recording device in all lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to purchase a few books for vocalises and songs.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in the bel-canto technique of singing with a focus on opera, art song, oratorio, and have had some experience teaching musical theatre.

John is very patient and knowledgeable. You can tell that he's been teaching for a very long time. I'm self-taught and have been playing for over 20 years and within minutes of viewing me play, John was able to pick out immediately my flaws. He gives me homework every week, and gives me a hard time if I do not do it. Exactly what I look for in a teacher.

My name is Ronald S. At the age of 9, I started playing the guitar for my Father's Gospel Group who is a great Gospel D.J. (Big Clyde). Through the years I have taken several guitar courses from several instructors. In the last seven months I have taken instructions from Mr. Christian, I have excelled further and have learned more than all my other adventures.

Micheal's business based environment in an open studio type classroom is a must. In Micheal's unique style of teaching you not only learn to play the guitar, but he also instructs you in song with a spirit of being well satisfied.

As shoppers pass through the store they enjoy the sounds of students playing their guitars following the guidance of Mr. Christian. This also gives his students a chance to perform in front of other people giving them a finer definitions for the art of music. If you are looking for a music instructor, one who focuses in on your difficult areas and searches for improvement to make you the best musician possible in all areas, or if you are just looking to learn and have lots of fun, then Mr. Christian is your contact. Please visit him at one of his jam sessions..

About Christina
Hi, there! My name is Christina E. and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons for 15 plus years and have loved helping my students prepare for concerts, school auditions, and just learning music. I attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts high school and Queens University of Charlotte while earning a degree in Music Therapy and Psychology. I am calm as well as patient and my teaching style reflects that. I am excited this year to introduce WunderKeys for Preschoolers age 3-5. Why Wunderkeys – This method helps to encourage first experience in music lessons while helping to provide a long term enjoyment of the piano. The Method book is designed to be a one- on – one , 30 minute lesson that contains 10 lessons in each book. On average it does take a child a full school year to complete the program. Using the this
method book it helps to build confidence, and solidify musical concepts. This is all done through songs and games. Also this year I will be focusing more on individuals that have special needs. As a Music Therapist I am able to adapt music lessons so that it is more teachable for those with special needs. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Maggie is a great teacher. My seven-year-old daughter loves her and she learns a lot from her. My daughter had a different piano teacher before. I like Maggie's upbeat way of teaching better than her old teacher. I personally believe the right attitude and energy helps motivate kids to learn. I like that she has different lesson plans and reward system. Just a little something to show my daughter that she's doing a good job.
