I have been teaching Irish fiddle style for 15 years. I will usually start the student in either a basic fiddle book or Suzuki to learn how to do proper bowing, positioning and technique. The student will be able to read notes. If desired, I will also teach the more advanced about chord progression through the songs. I do know the appalachian style also but it is asked for less frequently.

I am a member of American Strings Teacher's Association, National Association for Music Educators (Maryland Music Educators Association), and the Music Teachers National Association (Music Teachers Association of Charles County). As a teacher, I'm very student oriented. We move at your pace. The more you practice, the faster we move. I do encourage learning to read music, but I use multiple ways of teaching to reach my students. Everyone learns in a different way. My primary job is to see you achieve your goals in relation to your instrument. I also encourage that you take every opportunity to perform. There are many groups in the area that allow for different ages and styles of music
. I can help you understand what is going on behind the music and hopefully see what the composer was hoping to convey, if that is something you want to know. When I was a student I always wanted to know "why?". As a teacher, you will know why if I do.

*** Lesson Details ***
I try to keep my lesson area as stress free as possible. It's OK to make mistakes in my studio. I would like you to bring a notebook to lessons as well as your music and instrument. I write as much as I can down because if you were like I was during lessons, I would forget everything I was supposed to be watching for after 3 days. Like I said above, we move at your pace. The more you practice, the faster we move. Questions are a good thing. It shows interest. But sometimes you just have to stop asking questions and just take the leap of faith.
We start with note reading as well as proper form and the parts of the instrument. We also deal with general care. I will tune your instrument every time you come in for lessons until you learn how to tune it yourself. We will review the day before, I will check on what work you've done and then move onto the next song/ technique etc. After we learn how to pluck the first 8 notes, we start with scales and bowing.

After that we move through the "usual" routine. Scale, etude, song(s) or school test songs, audition requirements etc.

I try to keep the same routine because for some students it's easier for them to focus if they know the lesson is going to move in a familiar way. It's reassuring. After we become proficient in the basics, we move into whatever genre you would like to play, within reason. If you are in the school orchestra we will work towards you getting an A.

I would say I'm more laid back when you are not preparing for an audition. Auditions require a lot of work and I want you to do as close to perfect as possible. I become fairly demanding during that time.

In about 6 months, you can play almost any tune you can hear on the radio. Explaining where you could be gets fairly technical and I might as well be talking like Charlie Brown's teacher.

I am familiar with Paul Rolland's work, Valerie Bobbett Gardner's Violin Virtuosity, as well as Guillespie's. I was brought up Suzuki but haven't been trained in Suzuki. I have taken classes on how to teach to a variety of students so I could hold a teaching license in the state. I do participate with (Canadian) The Royal Conservatory of Music Music Development. This is active in the US also.

If you’re looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable and patient strings teacher, you will love Mrs. Heins. Both of my sons have been taking lessons from Mrs. Heins for several years (one for viola and one for cello). They have learned so much under her instruction, such as earning All-County and All-State honors. They also practice their live performance skills twice a year during informal musical concerts. Mrs. Heins also offers participation in the Royal Conservatory Music Development program, which can earn your child credit for college. She is a gem and should you choose her, you won’t be disappointed.

Had a wonderful time with my teacher she restrung my violin and I got a trade in for an adult si and adult size because I had purchased one for ciao but I got it at music store where she works and they gave me another one with the trade-in and I only had to pay $50 I had a nice time with Miss Hines I even was so excited to go into my lessons I get it two hours earlier and she excepted me so that was good she had time to string the restring the Valium and not show me a lot of things that I needed to do and I’ve also purchased the first book so I’m I’m really excited

Orange Blossom, Mississippi Sawyer and Devil's Dream are a few of the basic fiddle songs I like to teach. The key to Fiddling is being able to play in tune and fast with a few basic rhythm patterns. I teach theory, scales, rhythm, pattern recognition, how to work with a metronome from slow to fast, proper bow grip and placement as well as proper posture for the violin.

My name is Erin. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in Violin. I began studying violin at the age of six. I have performed with small chamber ensembles, orchestras, quartets, and trios. I enjoy playing for churches and weddings, and love teaching.

I began teaching beginner to advanced Violin and Viola in April of 2001 in NC. I moved to California in the fall of 2008. Since moving to California I have extended my teaching to beginner Piano and Cello also. I have taught students ages 3 to 87 how to play and enjoy music on a personal level. My experience includes leading sectionals for middle school orchestra, organizing and instructing small ensembles, and organizing student recitals. Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase the
students' growth and abilities, and to provide an opportunity to give back to family and friends whose sacrifices and support enable the students to succeed.

I teach because I love music and I believe God has given me a gift. Playing and teaching help me to use my talent for His glory. I love working with people and I love how music enables people of all ages to open up and express themselves in a positive way, no matter what life throws their way. I believe music teaches discipline, builds self esteem; helps set and achieve goals; and positively affects and enhances other curricular endeavors.

My teaching philosophy is to always have fun while learning, to set attainable goals for the student, to learn through encouragement and discipline, and to help students come to love music on a personal level. I focus on the character of each student and their goals and desires to see that the student and/or parents are satisfied. Teaching is a privilege for me that I do not take for granted.

*** Lesson Details ***
I offer half hour, forty-five minute, sixty minute lessons, or longer on a weekly basis, but I do Not offer bi-weekly lessons. My lessons begin with the fundamentals of music. I believe a firm foundation in rhythm and reading is important because a student may switch musical instruments one day and the basics are universal and necessary. I have a deep love and appreciation for music which I hope to instill in my students as well. I am strict in the sense that I like students to polish their pieces before moving on. I like to keep them focused on playing well, not just playing.

A typical lesson will begin with scales to warm up, a review of the previous week's material, and a new assignment. Students will memorize pieces, be proficient in scales and rhythms, and all the while laughing and having a great time. I am known with my students for my creative analogies and flexibility to try new things in order to adapt to the students strengths and weaknesses. My students look forward to coming to their lesson, and that is very rewarding as a teacher.

I primarily use the Suzuki method for Violin and Viola, because it offers progressive steps to mastering technique, style, and musicality. My curriculum includes the use of Winning Rhythms, Wohlfahrt studies, All for Strings Theory, Essentials for Strings, and many more beginner and advanced studies; including shifting and double stops.

I love music and I love working with people; teaching is just icing on the cake. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and discover your talents and I hope we can learn together. I look forward to meeting you!

Cindy has been making music for as long as she can remember. She was the assistant director of a synagogue children's choir by age 14 and has directed and sung with many community choirs and pickup groups since then. But it wasn't until 1996 that she discovered the autoharp and began teaching and performing in earnest. Now one of the best recognized autoharp workshop leaders in the US, she has taught and performed at festivals and private concerts from Pennsylvania to California, as well as Tasmania, Australia, England, aboard cruise ships, and an upcoming visit to Sweden. She also shares her knowledge of old-time West Virginia fiddle techniques and repertoire, and is known locally as a sympathetic and effective voice teacher for those who think they cannot sing. In addition to her teaching activities, Cindy founded and directs the Pi
ttsburgh Threshold Choir, a group of women who sing at the bedsides of people who are very ill or dying.

Lessons with Cindy are self-directed with coaching intended to help the student accomplish his or her personal objectives. She will ask you to provide examples of music that you love so much that you'd be willing to work hard to learn to play it, and you will find yourself working on that music right from the start. Technique is taught in the context of the music: if you need a technique for a particular song, you will learn that technique. And of course once you've mastered a technique it's yours to use on the next song or tune and the next. It's a constant process of enjoying the music and discovering and mastering the technique needed to recreate it in your own playing or singing.

I recently approached Cindy for vocal coaching on songs that I perform on a regular basis with my duet. I am extremely pleased with her instruction. She was to the point, very clear and concise with her guidance. I know she improved my performance (I had a concert the very next day!). She gave me so much to think about. I really trust her approach with me. She made me feel very much at ease, which resulted in rapid-fire student/teacher give and take vocal direction. This is the way I like to learn! I loved my time with her and will certainly have another session with her soon!

For the last year I have been taking piano, viola and violin lessons online with DeAndre. He is a natural, insightful teacher and I look forward to years of lessons with him. I would absolutely recommend him.

I'm a beginner with the violin and viola and an intermediate pianist. I was doubtful at first that I would be able to learn through a video chat. I'm amazed at the detail DeAndre can pick up just by watching a video chat. There have been many times when we just did the lesson over the phone with no video and he was able to tell that my fingering hand was in the wrong position or I was holding the bow wrong just by listening over the phone!

On and off through my life I've taken piano and viola lessons (I'm 46) and was never able to get very far. I found my teachers discouraged me in many ways without trying to. DeAndre has been fantastic. With his instruction I've been able to do things I never thought I would ever be able to do. He's excellent at giving feedback about the things I'm doing wrong but in a way that keeps me positive and makes me aware of the things I'm doing well and the things I need to improve.

DeAndre is absolutely worth the time and money.

My daughter is extremely shy and introvert, she said she felt comfortable with DeAndre. From my observance of him interacting with her he is very patient and is able to work well with young beginning students. My daughter is 11 and her only experience was playing with her strings class last year in 5th grade. You can tell DeAndre has a very calm personality that translates into his lessons with his students. That is such an important quality to possess when working with young beginning students. Thanks for a great lesson we look forward to many more with you.

I instruct in the Scottish style of fiddling, with a rounded approach, including introductions to the Cape Breton, Highland, Grand Northeast, and Shetland regional styles.

I am a traditional Scottish musician specializing in 18th century music. I have studied Highland bag piping since 2001 and Scottish Fiddling since 2002 (with a background in classical violin). I teach both Scottish Fiddle and Highland Bagpipes, as well as Scottish Small pipes and Border pipes.

I have supplemented these areas of knowledge by studying Gaelic since 2007 and Clàrsach (wire-strung harp) since 2012. I have performed with the Potomac Valley Scottish Fiddle Club and the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums since 2004, for weddings and Scottish Country Dances since 2006, and founded the Scottish Folk-Acoustic band The Devil's Tailors in 2008, and lead the only DC-area open Scottish jam session. I also participate in a living history unit reenacting the 1745 rebellion in the Highlands, leading me to study the music's historical co
ntext.

My approach to Scottish traditional music is holistic; I feel it's important to experience how song feeds into instrumental music, and how the instrumental traditions interact with one another, and impart that broader view to my students. My focus is mostly on the folk traditions, though for bagpipe students, I teach the current and formal pipe band technique and repertoire as a foundation.

I have twice qualified for the US National Scottish Fiddling Championship, and was 4th place overall in Grade 4 Senior out of almost 850 pipers in 2006, and have been taking an extended hiatus from competition.

Peter is very patient and exceptionally knowledgeable. He is very analytical in his teaching. I am a new student (only a few lessons) and I am confident he will be able to provide the critical but positive instruction and encouragement that I need. His enthusiasm and passion for music is contagious. In fact, he gives detailed oral histories and music theory explanations related to the topic of the lesson. Most teachers boot you out when time is up - not Peter - he always finishes on the right note. Plus he has an adorable cat assistant, Rory, as a side kick.

I grew up in Birmingham, AL, Boston, MA, and Cleveland, OH, and was classically trained on violin in all three cities by members of their respective orchestras. I began studying theory in 7th grade at The Alabama School of Fine Arts. I continued theory lessons while in Boston at the New England Conservatory of Music. I attended Summer music programs at Apple Hill (New Hampshire) and Sewanee (Tennessee) and have extensive experience in orchestra, quartet, and chamber group environments.

Upon graduating Emory university in 1992 I played professionally in Destin, FL as a bassist, guitarist, violinist, and vocalist. I performed as bassist and backing vocalist with "Salty Dog" for nearly a decade. I am the co-founder of the Destin, FL band "Beach Mice." We perform for several weddings, corporate events, and benefits every year. Beach
Mice is also popular on the festival circuit on the Emerald Coast.

I relocated to Atlanta in November of 2013, and currently perform weddings, and at various restaurants and events in the Atlanta area.

I have taught individuals and group lessons on violin, bass, and guitar since 1997 and for several consecutive years at Playground Music in Fort Walton Beach.

I teach both old-time American and traditional Irish fiddle, hewing closely to the older traditional styles I myself perform. You can expect to learn the basic of fiddle-playing (based on good violin technique, including how to hold the instrument properly and how to achieve a good tone), bowing, phrasing, ornaments, and other tricks of the trade. pend much of my classical technique in order to play both old-time and traditional Irish fiddle as authentically as possible; but I still retain my initial training and apply good basic violin technique to my fiddle and (of course) her violin teaching, while tailoring it to the musical idioms of each of students.

I have also studied voice, which again, however, I have never allowed to interfere with my performance of traditional songs--largely because I had developed a traditional approach to the singing of both American southern mountain repertory and traditional Irish song many years before receiving any formal instruction. This training, however, has given me greater insight into how to get the most out of your voice for almost any style.

I also taught myself to play lap dulcimer, basing my approach on the Eastern Kentucky styles associated with Jean Ritchie, Barbara Edwards, and Anne MacFie—that is, primarily using a small dowel stick or noter to sound the melody, and playing counter-melodies for song accompaniments.

My clawhammer banjo-playing is influenced by various Appalachian instrumentalists and accompanists (including Dock Boggs, Clarence Ashley, Hobart Smith, and Lily May Ledford), but my style is also influenced by years of playing with midwestern and southern-style fiddlers.

I welcome students ages 10 or above, and have learned to adapt my teaching style to the individual student, helping each one to make the most of his or her talents and enthusiasms, while emphasizing sound technique and good practice habits.

I loved working with Julie. She considered what my goals were for playing and the playing style I was interested in. She then guided my lesson practice toward those goals, while at the same time making sure I was getting the underlying foundational principles to build upon.
