Matt continues to challenge me. His teaching methods are great - he doesn't just teach techniques, he immediately puts techniques to work by applying them to a song I would like to learn. He is also very good about explaining the reasoning behind certain techniques/habits.

I have been teaching guitar for over 18 years and have taught hundreds of satisfied students. When you sign up for guitar lessons, you will begin by learning the basics of the instrument including proper holding and playing position, tone production, rhythm, first position notes, basic chords and notation. Once you get the basics down, you will learn how to play your favorite songs regardless of style. All of this can happen within the first 4-6 months of playing.

I haven't played the violin since I was in middle school, and I wanted to re-learn to play it. I am so glad I picked Dave, he is very professional and made me feel very comfortable. I jumped in with both feet and Dave made the instructions at our first lesson easy for me to understand. Excellent location and studio is awesome.
Rushia Hendricks
Excellent lesson. Does a wonderful job at taking older students and gently holding their feet to the fire to bring out the best- even under the most challenging of circumstances. Kudos to being such a uniquely great teacher!
Tom L.
I realize it was the first lesson but I was a little disappointed that we spend nearly the entire time on housekeeping items, like canceling and re-scheduling appointments. I think that could have been covered with an e-mail or handout. I also thought we spent too much time going over the differences between acoustic and electric guitars - considering my age and background. Would have liked to see him demonstrate what I was asked to practice before the next lesson instead of just being told to refer to the workbook.

I have been playing guitar for over a decade and have tons of performance experience gigging in a local rock band. Combine that with a curriculum that starts with fundamentals and expands quickly into playing your favorite songs and you have a great start to beginning or expanding your guitar playing abilities.

About ryan

Hi, my name is Ryan and I would love to teach you how to play guitar. I've been playing for over 10 years and have been gigging for a little less than that in my band. Over the years I have gained a lot of experience performing on stage and teaching to people of all ages. If you want to shred, jam,

Ryan was great! He's obviously a talented guitarist and he is very laid back and makes you feel comfortable. He shows you in detail what you need to do to become a better guitar player. My ONLY advice, and the reason he doesn't get 5 stars, is I think he should have more visual aids with his lessons. For example, write down the different scales or transcribe the first several measures of a song. Then, one has something to refer back to when you are practicing and invariably get stuck. Other than that, I would highly recommend Ryan as a guitar teacher!

Andy has been a lifesaver during the pandemic! Before working with Andy, I felt like music was off limits to me. I went from zero experience to being competent in multiple instruments. I started with banjo and later went into acoustic guitar, electric guitar, harmonica, and a DAW.

His flexible teaching style was responsive to my musical growth and interests. As we went, Andy sprinkled in some easy to understand music theory. I learned a lot of my favorite songs (including several out of the mainstream). He worked with me to adapt songs written for guitar to banjo. He also helped me to pick quality instruments that were right for me and my budget.

Highly recommend!

"Rock players: learn something about Jazz!

I came to Jeff as a rock player with /some/ skill, but stuck in the "pentatonic box". Jeff introduced me to the infinite possibilities of Jazz. I wasn't the most diligent student in the world, and even still, I learned some of the basics: how to read a lead sheet, how Jazz maps to the electric guitar, how to play faster, and /when/ to play faster. Jeff introduced me to some essential figures from the Jazz canon: Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Jobim. In retrospect, the most important takeaway from "Jeff lessons" was ear training. He has a clever set of techniques for learning to hear and recognize intervals. Take lessons with Jeff and you'll learn how build chords, and to easily pick apart a piece of music and transcribe it. On top of all that, he's a pretty cool guy. :) Solid gold!"

"Guys and Gals, If you or your kids are looking for a great teacher. You have come to the right place. He makes learning fun with his great personality and a giant variety of fun techniques to have you playing the guitar very quickly. When I started with him I really never picked up a guitar. Now I am playing live gigs with my own band and writing my own music. I just recently started singing lessons. I have my first one coming up on Wednesday. If they are anything like learning the guitar with Paul. I can't wait! Thanks Paul, You really have changed the way I listen and now play music!!"

"At 37 I assumed I had missed the boat on ever learning the guitar but Scott is doing a great job of proving me wrong. He presents the material in a way that is both fun and engaging. After the first lesson, only knowing some absolute basics, he has you playing notes and making actual music. Quantifiable progress."

"Ahmad is a fantastic teacher, and not just for beginners but for experienced players as well!
I've been playing guitar for about 20 years, but haven't taken any formal lessons in the past 15 of those. I felt like I was in a rut with my playing so I started taking lessons with Ahmad a few months ago. He was able to immediately help me improve my technique and help me correct some inefficiencies that I didn't even notice I was doing. The word "inefficiencies" in the last sentence was chosen very deliberately because Ahmad has a great way of showing that there are multiple ways to play the instrument and not one specific "right" and "wrong" way.
I feel like I've made more progress in the last 4 months than I had in years."

Guitar Lessons in Aurora: Your Guide to the Local Music Scene

By Ryan B – Aurora Guitar Teacher

Are you thinking of taking guitar lessons in Aurora? The market may not be as large as Chicago (obviously), but there are still a lot of great, unique resources for new and experienced guitar players. From gear shops to music venues and festivals, there's a lot to love about the guitar scene in Aurora.

Here are some of the places you should check out when you’re taking guitar lessons in Aurora:

Hix Bros Music (https://www.hixbrosmusic.com/)

Hix Bros is the second or third happiest place on Earth, as it says on one of their eponymous bumper stickers. If you're looking for a guitar, amp, or any other musical equipment, this independent music store is a great place to start. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. They eve

Blues on the Fox (http://riveredgeaurora.com/events/blues-fox-fest-2015/)

There is a solid line up of blues musicians every year in June at RiverEdge Park. With a good mix of classic blues performers and up-and-coming artists, it's a fun way to spend a weekend listening to some blues and guitar in a scenic, relaxing setting. RiverEdge Park is also a great place to experience music any other time of the year.

Two Brother's Roundhouse (http://www.twobrothersbrewing.com/roundhouse/entertainment/)

One of my favorite venues in the area and a great brewery to boot, Two Brother's brings in a wide variety of bands from bluegrass to funk. One thing’s for sure though, when you go see their music you're bound to see some great guitarists and get a good sampling of the different ways the guitar can be utilized.

Backthird Audio (http://www.backthird.com/studio/)

If you want to do some recording but don't want to go the DIY route, Backthird Audio is your local neighborhood solution. Located in downtown Aurora, it's a cool local studio that offers a wide variety of options to record your next project. From less expensive, affordable options to full professional recordings, they've got you covered. The studio also doubles as an intimate venue for more personal concerts.

There’s a lot to love about the music scene in Aurora, and this is just a small sampling of some of my favorite places. If you're looking for lessons, Takelessons has a variety of friendly, knowledgeable teachers to help you on your way to becoming a guitar master!

I’m here to help, especially if you're looking to go in the folk/fingerpicking direction, but regardless of your interests, you can find a teacher to help you pursue your passion. Thanks and happy picking!
