I teach guitar from a wide background in many genres. You can expect to learn chord and scale theory, as well as mechanics, tone control, note and key identification, and ear training. We can explore any genre of interest, however my specialties are in blues, rock, classic rock, bluegrass, and country.

Music is my life. Since the age of 16, I have studied the guitar extensively. During my high-school years I was involved in band, marching band, choir, and independent music theory. I started my first band when I was 19 in the U.S. Army, and my life has never been the same since. I played music

Sarah is very easy to work with, always interested in helping you the student have fun with the sax, as she has. Despite her great experience and background (or because of it?) she never seemed bored or working beneath herself with a beginner. I could say more, but I better take this time to practice!

Students of all ages in a personal relaxed atmosphere.
Customized to each student. If the student has not previously taken lessons I use Piano Adventures as the basic course guide. I have found it the most productive and enjoyable for my students. I uses a minimum of the Lesson and Theory book for my younger students with either the basic course or Accelerated course depending on their age and maturity. Adults begin with the All In one adult book. I add the other books that accompany each level based on the particular students needs and interests. I believe that a good grounding in Theory is essential as a student who becomes proficient in sight reading, no matter how well he/she plays by ear, will find that the doors for lifetime musical fulfillment with be much wider. However, with a student who has already had some lessons I will be happy to continue with any method that the student is currently using.
I also believe in supplementing the Piano course with the student's favorite ...

Kathy came to my home for my lesson. She has a very pleasant personality and it is very easy to follow her instructions. She kept the pace up, yet did not overload me. I have been teaching this subject for over 17 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either notated or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study. Lessons are a minimum of 60 minutes once per week.

Troy is an absolutely magical teacher and mentor. He not only provides caring, personalized instruction that goes far beyond the traditional fundamentals, he really takes the time to push me in ways that I find enjoyable and rewarding. I feel as though my lessons are dynamic and varied enough to keep me always engaged and looking forward to that next session. Best of all, Troy is that special type of guru that really gives you that added incentive to go the extra mile...I never feel a guilt or pressure to be at a certain level or practice a certain amount, I just feel this desire to impress Troy during my next lessons. Awesome stuff - very special guy! Looking forward to a lifetime of learning with Troy!

I served as a Latin tutor at Walnut Hills High School year for about 3 years. I taught students of differing levels of Latin (Latin I, II, and III). The topics I covered in my teachings included grammar, the memorization of Latin words, and the translation of Latin texts. I myself have studied Latin for 4 years. I have taken the AP Latin course and received a 5 (the highest grade possible) on the AP Exam. In our lessons together, I will help to review any topics that are confusing, to complete homework assignments, to review and for tests and the AP Exam, etc. Lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs and learning styles.

About Rebeka

She is also fun to talk to and be with, and her love of music is infectious. She is an excellent teacher for an older student, and I imagine for younger ones too."

5 Hard Songs to Sing - and the Exercises to Master Them

Ask any experienced vocalist for a list of what they consider to be hard songs to sing, and they can probably provide you with five or six examples without much thought.  However, there are as many examples as there are different voices, and every individual singer will have individual vocal hurdles to overcome with their repertoire. On the other hand, it is possible to identify a few examples across a few genres where a majority will agree that, yes, those are hard songs to sing. Here are fiv …

6 New Ideas for Piano Warm-Ups

We all know the importance of warming up - but do you actually commit to a proper warm-up every time you sit down to play the piano?  If you're in a rush, it's easy to forget it.  However, an effective warm-up is essential for avoiding injuries, such as tendonitis, and can also help increase the dexterity of your fingers and hands, allowing you to reach certain tough chords. Before you get into the "meat and potatoes" of your practice session, you'll want to spend a good 10-15 minutes focus …

5 Important Tips for Soprano Singers to Keep in Mind

Are you a soprano? Keep your voice in great shape with these tips from Saint Augustine, FL voice teacher Heather L... Being born a soprano comes with both its perks and its challenges. On the one hand, we sopranos have a lot of the solos in choruses and choirs, and most of the highly dramatic arias and ballads. On the other hand, we tend to overwork and abuse our voice more often and get diagnosed with a lot more pathologies of the voice. Every voice type is special, and soprano singers ha …
