I strongly believe that each student is an individual personality and differentiated instruction gives the best possible result. Every student has different cultural and social background and each of them deserves an equal start regardless of their differences, nor their talent. I employ patience and enthusiasm in my effort to pass my love and knowledge for classical music to my students. In 3 to 6 months with me they will be able to play some basic musical pieces with authority and confidence. For the violin/viola/cello students I am using a mix of classical and Suzuki methods. The very beginners will start with "Essential Elements 2000" and after the completion of this book the next step will be Suzuki books 1-6. For piano students I am using Bastien Piano Basics, Levels 1-4.

About Elise

Hello! Thank you for stumbling across my profile. I offer voice lessons in multiple genres to students of all ages! In addition to teaching privately, I have worked on developing curriculum for and teaching an after school music and theater class for under-served high school students in the Bronx. As an experienced nanny, I am very comfortable with and love working with young children!

As a soprano trained at the Manhattan School of Music and McGill University, I have had the great pleasure of working with leading teachers and directors in the opera world. I have performed in various venue

Throughout my performance career, teaching has always brought me great joy! I look forward to meeting you and getting started!

Whatever your goals may be, I am here to help you reach them and have a great time along the way! I believe that with a solid and healthy vocal technique, the sky is the limit! My lessons are highly individualized. At our first meeting, we will discuss what you would like to accomplish in the coming months. Maybe you want to land the lead in your school musical, maybe you want to get accepted into your dream conservatory, or maybe you simply want to learn more about the art of singing!

With a strong background in opera, I will spend a lot of time teaching the importance of breath support and proper placement of the voice. Together, we will choose appropriate repertoire that will help you grow as a singer, and that you love! There is such a wealth of vocal music in this world, there is no reason to sing any piece that you don't absolutely love!

I am also available to teach basic sight singing and music theory, and for audition consultation.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano in living room

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching classical voice, as my primary training is in opera. I have spent two summers studying the Bel Canto method in Italy and use this as I teach.

She is a joy to work with

I started taking voice lessons with Elise in August 2013 and she has just been an absolute joy to work with! I learned so much from her and she is friendly, positive and encouraging me when I was worried about one thing or another! I will continue to work with her for as long as I need to. She's great!

Builds my 6-year-old's confidence and celebrates her imagination

On a whim, I signed my daughter up for private acting lessons with Elise. I had and still have no intention of turning my child into an actor--no performance goals at all. I just wanted to give Sophie an outlet to express her imaginative self and to show her that creativity and storytelling bring life-long joy.

Elise is as pleasant as her picture. She has a natural warmth and 'speaks kid.' She is highly receptive to ideas and we are able to reinforce what Sophie is learning in school, like identifying the beginning, middle, and end of stories.

I highly recommend Elise for anyone who wants to give their child a unique, confidence-building experience.

Elise is so supportive and positive! She puts you at ease!

I am new to take lessons, and one main reason I wanted to start was to get my courage to sing in front of others and find out professional feedback if I had any talent. Elise was so warm, and positive. She gave me honest feedback. She is so bubbly and kind and really knows what she is talking about! She's honest with her comments. She also gave me great breathing tips and helped me warm up with singing techniques that really helped me!! She put things in terms I could understand. She was also very understanding when I had to reschedule an appointment and was running late. I am grateful to God for her help with my singing and I hope to capitalize on what she has told me so I can achieve my singing dream. She is wonderful! I highly recommend her, you won't regret it!!!!

Laura K.

New York, NY

About Laura

Music is definitely the universal language, and there isn't a genre I don't love; it's important to me that that aspect be brought to lessons, as well! From humble New Jersey beginnings to an opera career, I've seen the power of what music can do!

Whether it's opera, musical theater, folk, rock, or just public speaking, anything YOU love to do, I would love to teach you! Having taught all ages and levels, from first graders to adults, from someone who's never sung a note in his or her life to semi-professionals, I cater my lessons to what YOU as a student need and are interested in.

Less
ons shouldn't be a chore - I like to foster an environment you look forward to being a part of! I also think that music, like any sport, is hard work, and takes seriously practice; even hobbies take concentration and application! I understand and can work with many schedules and work loads, but I expect my students to put at least half the effort into their lessons that I do!

Awesome teacher! patient, knowledgeable, & creative

I'm a complete beginner, could barely sing in tune. I decided to take lessons for fun. but whoa was i surprised at the progress I've made with Laura in just a few short months. She has catered to my individual needs, and has made my learning experience fun. She works at my pace so i never feel rushed or bored. She teaches singing lessons in a way anyone can understand. Her background in opera means she can sing and teach her students amazing vocal range. She taught me anything is possible with hard work and dedication! I've learned so much with her, it's hard to put it all in a short review. Pick her and you won't be disappointed! Thank you Laura!

Great teacher

Laura is a really good and nice teacher. She is patient to answer all of my questions.I improved a lot in a short period of time with her tips on singing. She's not only just teach you how to sing, she also talks some histories of music and different examples or even her experiences to me. She can make an exercise into a fun way to do. I learned a lot from her and I gain more confident on singing. I'm always looking forward to take lessons with her. She's such a great singer and vocal coach!! Laura is a great choice for those of you who want to learn singing in a comfortable, no pressure and fun environment. ^_^

Briana S.

New York, NY

About Briana

Welcome to my teaching page!

I draw on my experience as a professional opera singer and actor, my teaching background in various areas (certified Music Together teacher, general music, theatre, yoga, fitness, literature, etc.), and my training in classical singing, musical theater, acting, and various methods of body work. I strive to create a working environment where students can take risks, learn to challenge themselves, and find increased joy and freedom in expression. Self-awareness/body-awareness, relaxation, and nurturing of individuality are emphasized above all.

My teaching phil
osophies and techniques draw primarily from my study of movement and mindfulness through disciplines such as yoga, and especially the Feldenkrais Method, "a remarkable approach to human movement, learning and change... based on sound principles of physics, neurology and physiology, and the conditions under which the nervous system learns best." (The Feldenkrais Institute, NY, NY, 2013).

Training/experience:

- MA Vocal Performance degree in progress at Hunter College
- Bachelor of Music, Highest Honors, SUNY Binghamton
- Professional singing in the US and Europe
- Professional acting throughout the US, theater and film (member of SAG-AFTRA and AEA)
- Feldenkrais Practitioner Training Program certification in process
- Extensive yoga teacher training
- Eclectic studies in voice and body work (Linklater, various dance styles, Kinetic Awareness, Tai Chi, Beijing Opera techniques)
- Kids/family music teacher certified by Music Together (an amazing, international, research-based program)
- Guest teacher at the Bronx High School for Law and Finance (fundamentals of singing and stage performance)
- Former fitness instructor

Finding mastery and flow in playing music feels like flying. But we have to start from the ground up. The stronger the foundation, the higher you fly. Let's get started!

Peace,
Briana

Singing
In what is surely a testament to her teaching ability, Briana's passions for music and learning - independently or in combination - are infectious. Briana understands the importance of treating and training the complete singer, addressing both the student's both physical/technical and personal/artistic capacities. She is versatile, open-minded, empathetic, and always delightful. I am honored to be her colleague and happy to recommend her.

Briana is an excellent and inspiring teacher to work with. In my experience, she brings a sense of excitement to the subject of singing that is contagious and motivated me to put my best foot forward not just in our meetings, but also in my practicing at home. Beyond repertoire and technique, her expertise extends into the physical and emotional aspects of singing. She is incredibly sensitive to where the student is coming from, and is able to meet him/her at that level. The ideas she shared have stuck with me and continue to help me as I develop further.

Natalie L. was wonderful to work with. She really helped me with sight reading and tempo (which I sorely needed). She also helped me build my audition repertoire and play with my voice to find new ways of singing. I highly recommend Natalie! She also plays the piano very well, which helps when you're learning new material.
