With me students listen and practice their way to being complete musicians. They improvise from the start, quickly gaining confidence that music is their domain and that they can be creative in music, more than expert readers and interpreters. They practice because they want to improve something they've heard in their playing; to help them hear, I guide them in recording and reviewing their own playing.

This creative and self-directed approach, combined with a strong foundation I give in classical technique, can open infinite doors. My students have composed their own music, learned jazz, and explored Irish flute music and the Cuban charanga. Other students have explored Country, Rock, and even Dubstep (not my thing, but I like keeping an open mind).

I encourage lots of exploration and listening, both curated and free, which I then encourage students to share. My studio explores the length and breadth of the world's music, both ancient and modern, for inspiration -- far beyond ...

About David

I've worked hard to be a flutist, and I continue to work hard every day to grow my technique, my hearing, and my musical imagination: what we call "chops" and "big ears"! My great hope is that I can help my students succeed at something they are passionate about within the musical domain. Persona

David helped my daughter leap from barely any knowledge or sound to sounding like she’d been training for years- in only a few sessions!
Our family was amazed at the immediate progress! David is patient and able to adjust concepts to the child’s level for easy absorption and application. I can say from first hand experience that school music lessons may be fine, but there is no comparison to the one-on-one attention of an expert flutist! Thank you David!

David has a great approach to his students and was very helpful with providing additional resources. My daughter really enjoyed lessons with David and we highly recommend his services.

Ear training is an important part of our work in singing and piano lessons. Voice and piano students learn interval recognition on the staff and by hearing. Recognizing intervals increases speed of reading music, helps identify chords on the page at a glance, and improves sight reading. Voice students go on to work on singing the intervals practicing sight singing.

Roberta is everything you would want in a teacher. She is exceptionally talented herself and knows how to share her knowledge with others. She is especially very kind and nurturing in an environment which could be quite intimidating for a beginner like me. You can tell she truly enjoys teaching and gets excited to see her pupil learn. I have learned so much in a short time.

I have a lot of experience with the Suzuki method as a teacher and also a player having started with that myself. However unless the player or parent specifies that they want strict Suzuki, I go with my method which involves Suzuki but also other methods. I was not strict Suzuki and it definitely worked for me as well as students of mine!

I believe in personalizing music! We don't learn music to learn technique and theory, but because we want to express ourselves. After years of formal music education and a Bachelor's from Berklee College of Music, I've developed strategies for integrating the study of technique and theory into learning music and songs that YOU love. Whether you love jazz, pop, indie rock, heavy metal, or anything in-between, I believe that together we can further our passion for music while studying how to sound like your favorite artists.

About Alan

I'm a professional bassist, composer, and producer based out of Los Angeles, Cali. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2019 with a dual degree in Contemporary Writing and Production and Bass Performance. During my years on the east coast, I took the stage at many New-England based venues

I am equipped to teach traditional tonal theory in rigorous depth, but also feel that this is not always necessary or wanted, and so I often will teach specific elements of theory that are practical to a given student's musical goals while also giving an idea of the breadth of musical systems that are available.

About Martin

Hi! My name is Martin! I am a Providence-based composer and musician with expertise in music theory, songwriting, recording, and using audio software. Martin was very helpful even before I first met him. I spoke with him a number of times and he advised me on which saxophone to get. I am very pleased with the saxophone he suggested.
Overall Martin is friendly and easy to work with. He comes to my house which is very good for me and he is punctual. He listens to what direction I want to go and never pushes to do what I am not interested in. The lessons are at my pace and I never feel any pressure. I am learning quickly and am enjoying the lessons.

I LOVE teaching cello! I enjoy not only sharing my love of the music and the instrument, but also helping to expand my students' knowledge and hone their technique. My approach focuses on giving students the tools they need to become more independent musicians, so that the learning process will continue outside the lessons. This mostly consists of teaching a student how to practice efficiently and effectively, so they develop a good ear and become adept and solving their own musical problems or struggles. I will work with you to reach your cello playing goals and to enjoy yourself in the process!

About Emily

Long Island native Emily Doveala began studying the cello at age nine. She started her formal musical training at Mannes Prep, studying with Dorothy Lawson of the ETHEL Quartet. She went on to achieve her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance at Ithaca College, where she studied with Elizabeth Sim

"When I found Ahmad I had no musical ability - I still have no musical ability but I love the opportunity to play guitar and learn so much so fast from Ahmad every week. He has musical ability and a real talent for teaching. He has taken someone like me with iron hands and helped me make this more than 10 year journey a learning experience that has opened thought pathways experiences. I am so glad that I found Ahmad and the guitar -- I started when I was already past 50 - so it is never too late to start to learn."

"Patrick is a great teacher who really knows what he is talking about! I don't even feel embarrassed to sing (horribly) in front of him. His warm ups are very helpful and the way he explains everything is completely clear. If I don't understand something, he has no problem repeating himself or trying to explain it in a different way. I've learned a lot from his lessons, and he's a really fun person to be around. I think everyone should pick him as a teacher!"

"Lawrence was introduced to me 6 years ago. I immediately liked his smile, personality, and enthusiasm. He brings his opera training and musical theatre experience to the students. Lawrence challenges the students and gives them some theory training in addition to singing. The main focus of his classes at The Neighborhood Playhouse is Acting a Song. He finds musical theatre pieces that allow for emotions and physical actions. He's well liked by the students, with many asking if he'll be their teacher the following year. I highly recommend Lawrence to coach theory, singing, and vocal technique!"

She connected with Alyssa immediately, and she can't wait until her next lesson. Jazz is one of the few piano styles that allows total creative freedom.
