Timothy

Tim is great, he is teaching my son so much, he loves going to his lessons and learns so much from Tim, he taught him how to read music and the different types of drums and the different sounds they make, He tells everyone he is taking drum lessons. Tim answers any questions we may have and knows the drums very well, he is also very flexible and outgoing, Tirstan has lots of fun and enjoys his lessons very much. I will recommend Tim to anyone who is looking for a drum instructor.

Tim is a great teacher. He introduced Teddy to the different types of drums and cymbals. He allowed Teddy to play the different drums so that he could hear that each drum has a different sound. He also showed him how could change the pitch of the drum. Teddy really enjoys his lessons.

Andrew M.

Philadelphia, PA

About Andrew

Andrew is a Philadelphia area bassist, guitarist, composer, sound designer, audio engineer, and teacher. As a recent graduate of University of the Arts with a MM in jazz studies, Andrew has had many opportunities to study with some of the best musicians that Philadelphia has to offer. Andrew performs in a variety of styles from rock to jazz and R&B. For Andrew, music is the most fun a person can have and this idea is the foundation for his instruction. Andrew aims to inspire his students, in the way that his great teachers have inspired him. He emphasizes improvisation, confidence, versatilit
y, good habits, a strong foundation, and the concept of music as a language.

*** Lesson Details ***
Though I cultivate a laid-back atmosphere, I take music and teaching very seriously. I expect beginners to put in an honest effort, and expect more advanced players to be enthusiastic about the material I give them, and to give it the time and attention it deserves. Ultimately, a student will only get out what he or she puts in. It can and should be fun, (and if It isn't, I'll figure out a way to make it fun.) Students will learn to be creative every time they play. They will learn to interact with others (musically) and to rely on their ears and intuition. I try to focus on producing a well-rounded student who can play with emotion and spontaneity, yet has knowledge of music theory, history, convention, and other essentials of a more academic nature. I cater to the student's interests and tailor my lessons to the student's specific needs.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home: studio with music stands, guitar/bass amps, music library and materials, keyboard, recording mixer, guitars (acoustic & electric), electric bass, fretless bass, upright bass, and computer with various music software, and a wipe off board.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Car, Music stand, instruments, amplifiers, Ipad

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Jazz, Rock, Pop, and Contemporary music.

Coming from a beginner-level guitar player who has previously taken guitar courses, Andrew's definitely extremely talented and, equally importantly, very insightful and understanding when it comes to teaching. He is patient, smart, draws good examples for understanding concepts, and is enjoyable to play alongside with.

andrew is a great teacher

i've been taking bass lessons from andrew for several years and have nothing but great things to say about his teaching abilities. he is organized yet flexible, allowing you to take the lessons the direction you want to take it. he can really connect to the way you think and channel that to advance your skills. my only complaint i don't see him enough, but that's my fault.

Great Instructor

Andrew went above and beyond what I ever expected. He did a great job of covering rudiments and technical aspects, while simultaneously focusing on the "art" of bass playing. He was very aware of my skill level and responsive to my needs as a student. I highly recommend him for beginners and imagine that he would be great for more skilled students as well

Brian M.

Marlton, NJ

About Brian

Hey! My name is Brian and I teach guitar, bass guitar, and music theory out of Duke's Bike Music Studio in Marlton, NJ. A little about myself, I'm 33, married and have two kids. I've been playing guitar and bass since I was 12 and professionally teaching music since 2008. Aside from playing in various bands in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area, I'm a guitarist, upright bassist, and vocalist in the 553rd Air National Guard Band of the Northeast. I'm also the Music Director for the 553rd's popular music ensemble. I studied music and music education at Camden County College and Berklee Col
lege of Music.
Over the years, I've developed a method of teaching that uses songs my students like as the example for learning technique and music theory. My students are of all ages and range from never-played-a-note to gigging musicians looking to change things up a bit. Duke's Bike Music Studio is conveniently located near the Promenade shopping center. My rates are competitive and my schedule is flexible. Hit me up and we can get you scheduled right away.
Thanks!

Brian is a very patient and enthusiastic teacher. I have gone through some challenging phases while learning basic music theory and technical skills on bass guitar, and Brian has been instrumental (see what I did there?) in encouraging me through those bumps in the road. Learning to read and perform music can sometimes seem daunting, but he's really great at breaking down the information into fun exercises and simple explanations. You can tell he really enjoys what he does.

I decided to pick up the guitar in my 30s and soon realized I was in over my head. I spent a few hours with Brian and he has been tremendous in helping me progress. He is a personable guy and has a knack for explaining instructions and techniques clearly. He gives a ton of feedback and has an eye/ear for correcting issues. Also, Brian makes music theory very approachable which has given me a greater appreciation and understanding of the complexities of music. I highly reccomend.

Brian is amazing. He is wonderfully patient with my 10 year old son and knows how to get thru to younger students and communicate with them etc. We are very proud of our son's progress towards being a really great guitar player and it's because of Brian's patience, ability to communicate as well as his knowledge and ability to teach. His rates are very affordable and he's quite flexible with our family's ever changing schedule as we are super busy
