About Kathleen
I am a classically-trained opera singer. I have a Bachelors and Masters in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy (teaching), and have sung professionally in the U.S. and Europe. I have sung Opera, Operetta, Musical Theater and Concerts, as well as choral and cantorial singing. I have been a finalist and winner of vocal competitions in both the United States and Europe.
I have been teaching voice since 1980, and have worked with students of all ages, from 14 to 75. I have also directed and designed for musical theater and opera. Because I love singing, I want to bring that to my students as well, whatever kind of music they want to sing. I love children, but I do not work with girls or boys younger than 14.

In addition to music, I also teach English (ESL), Accent Reduction, German, U.S. & World History. I have my CBEST C
redential And ESL Certification. I do private tutoring and teach classes.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that learning how to breath is the key to good singing. After 3 months of study, my students will have learned how to breathe, which improves both their singing and speaking voices. Good breathing is the key to good singing and a healthy voice. With a healthy, well-trained voice, my students can be valuable members of any vocal ensemble, and enjoy their singing, For solo singing, good breathing is most important, whether singing opera, musical theater or pop music, because it gives a beautiful, full quality to the voice.
I always begin a lesson with warm-up exercises, to check breathing and vocal placement. Once the (vocal) engine is warmed-up, then we begin to sing. I try to get to know my students, so that, together, we can choose music that will enable them to reach their goals and is both fun and challenging for them to sing.

In addition to music, I also teach English (ESL), Accent Reduction, German, U.S. & World History. I have my CBEST Credential And ESL Certification. I do private tutoring and teach classes.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate studio with Piano
I have a MacBook Pro laptop computer + stereo speakers, to provide recorded accompaniment, when necessary.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If a student wishes to have on-site lessons, I require that a piano or keyboard be available for the lessons.
I usually travel with my MacBook Pro laptop computer & stereo speakers, to provide recorded accompaniment, when necessary.

*** Specialties ***
I am a trained opera/oratorio singer, but I teach Broadway, Pop, choral and classical singers.

I have had many international students who didn't speak English well. Music is an international language that helps me communicate with all of my students!

Excellent Voice Teacher

Mrs. B is a wonderful and dedicated teacher who focuses diligently during class sessions. She thoroughly explains terms and technique and is friendly and sociable. Her extensive knowledge of languages comes extremely useful in Italian arias and other folk songs as to explain the meanings of words and to convey motion. Her classes are enjoyable and fun, while still being comprehensively academic.

About Drew
As a recent recipient of a Master's Degree in Flute Performance from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, Drew Powell is a promising young flutist and highly sought after flute teacher. For 15 years, he has participated in numerous music competitions, festivals, and performance opportunities, both as a soloist and part of ensembles, and actively continues to do so. He is an advocate of the arts and passionate about spreading the gift of music, which has lead him to teach over 30 students (and counting!) in just the past 3 years.

Drew won the 2017 Myrna Brown Artist Competition (an international competition with no age limit) hosted by the Texas Flute Society. He was recently invited to be a guest artist at the 2018 Texas Flute Society Annual Convention, where he taught several masterclasses and gave solo performances.

**My Vision***
I seek students who share a love of learning. I am not looking for the finest musicians or highest IQ's, because those gifts are not required to learn and grow. My greatest experiences as a teacher have come from when I work with students who just want to learn more.

***My Requirements***
I hold my students to high expectations when it comes to practicing. Each week, I give students individual assignments that I know will improve their learning and playing abilities, and I expect those assignments to be fulfilled by the next lesson. A failure to do so will result in frustration for both myself and my student.

However, I know that nobody is perfect, and I myself have had my share of weeks where life happens, and I simply don't progress as much as I would like. As a teacher, I understand this perfectly, and I will always strive to listen to my students, and work with them through their difficulties or struggles.

***What To Expect From Lessons***
I bring a lot of energy to lessons! I am very passionate about teaching and helping students grow, and I make sure to bring that to every lesson. I give concise, direct feedback to students, making sure to give them the information they need to understand how they can achieve their goals and grow.

I am very perceptive of students' feelings, and I take care to be sensitive to their needs each week. My worst fear as a teacher is to cause hurt feelings, so I will do everything in my power to avoid that!

I am an expert in the field of music and the flute, so you can be rest assured that the quality of instruction will be the highest.

My two kids have now had five piano lessons with Drew and we have booked further.
My impression on day one had been that he is highly motivated, energetic and professional. His relative youth combined with authority makes him a great teacher for teens. First impressions were correct.
My kids like him a lot and they are already playing recognizable tunes. :)
I heartily recommend Drew for Flute and Piano.

she is money oriented/CLOCK WATCHING and concern about filling the time than having any usefull teaching content. On the first lesson she told me 3 times that she is raising money for her new LCD and I wanted to help!! Who does this!!

She bragged about her skills in accent reduction and 3 days she spent on analysing. BS. She is lying to your face when she didnt even spent 5 minutes.

I had an emergency on my first session, and she did nothing to make it up. Instead, she marked it as missed, and txt me that she doesnt know how to override it!!!! ( she could have not mark it as missed!!!! In first place) . Then she told me on second session, there is nothing she can do about it( really!!??? U cant even do a gesture offer to spend some time!!??). Then she is telling me she is working on amillion dollar deal, and she doesnt need 36$ :)))) and right after she asked if I wanted to help on lcd fund raising!! We had 10-15 min on actuall lesson which has no content. total BS.

I feel future students need to know about this. If she want to interpret this that im being a herk thats totally fine. Thats my civil duty to put it out there what my experience was.

About Chen
Hi,

My name is Chen. I teach Mandarin Chinese to non-native speakers of all ages and levels, remotely and locally at Stanford. I received my bachelor's degree in International Relations from Renmin University of China and my master's degree in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics (LSE). After that I went on study for my second master's degree in Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. After finishing all my coursework at the University of Chicago, I moved to Stanford and is currently working on my MA thesis while translating an anthropology book from English to Chinese.

I am a language learner and lover myself. I have learned French back in high school, and Latin and Greek in College. I have also learned some Danish when I studied as an exchange student in Copenhagen, Denmark. Languages bear upon not only a
group of voices and words, they are the lenses through which the world is perceived and communicated. Learning languages thus equips me with additional perspectives and enriches my understanding of others and myself.

Besides learning languages, I am also passionate about tutoring and find it especially fulfilling to help others achieve confidence communicating in another language. I started tutoring language-related courses in College, such as Mandarin Chinese, Chinese poetry, and English (GRE and TOEFL).

With several years of experience teaching Mandarin Chinese to second-language leaners, I know well the importance of individualized teaching. During our first session, I will ask the student about his/her learning goals and expectations, and tailor my teaching resources to their needs.

I can help you with:
-Test preparation (HSK, among others)
-Overall Mandarin Chinese improvement for any level and all ages (listening, speaking, reading, writing)
-Mandarin Chinese in specific fields (business, tour, the subject you study, etc.)
-Translation from English to Chinese and/or proofreading of Chinese writing
-Introduction to Chinese culture, cuisine, music, history...and all
-Any combination of the above

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any question or need any clarification in any information listed above, or book me if you are ready to get started!

Cheers,
Chen

Hello!
KONNICHIWA!

I am very happy to hear that you are interested in learning Japanese.
I have been teaching Japanese children to adult, beginners to advanced.
I had a request to teach Japanese to 3 years old girl last year before she moved to Japan in order to attend to a Japanese kindergarten smoothly. So I thanked her that I learned to teach Japanese from 3 years old. Now I can accept a student from 3 years old to any age.

My tutoring is not just teaching Japanese language to a student. I want to teach more than language, such as our culture and traditions. So I add cooking, Origami (folding a paper), Japanese calligraphy, singing, story telling into the lessons. We need "FUN" to learn the second language and I believe it is the best tools for the learning it even adult. I teach both formal and casual in speaking, writing. So
you can communicate and exchange conversations or responses with Japanese smoothly because my teaching method is not like a text book at school.

If you faced to the wall and struggling, try to change the method to learn Japanese. The text book Japanese at school is good for the test and business, but the proper Japanese is just like the Japanese animation films or movies you want to understand and watch. Moreover, the language is alive, so I add to teach new things including slang which may be not in your text book, to understand recent movies and animation films.

I sometime work for a Japanese company in Japan. Currently, I am working with a project for 2020 Tokyo Olympic.

If you have any question, please contact me. I am looking forward to seeing you soon.

Arigatou.
Thank you,

Cancel policy: If you need to cancel your lesson, please contact me at least 24 hours before. Please remember if it was less than 24 hours, it is non-refundable.
