About Lin
I have been teaching Chinese and Violin in bay area for years. I am very experienced in customizing private lessons for students of different age. I have got my Master degree in Education in China, with a high school teaching credential. I have passed the violin performance exam Level 10 in China, and played in the first student orchestra in the city. I wish one day I could share all my learning and teaching experiences with you:)

My class is designed in a student-friendly way. I will always discuss your learning goals and expectations at the very beginning; I believe a mutual understanding of the big picture between the student and the teacher will serve a good start. I enjoy exchanging ideas with my students in the class and let them dig deeper through this two-way communication. In my class, you can learn with joy, making a steady p
rogress step by step. I will also introduce a most-fit textbook to you, with plenty of supplementary learning materials provided, as well as a customized teaching plan offered based on your goals and learning progress.
Course benefits include:
- 1-on-1, or 1-on-more tailor-made executive private tutoring lessons
- Most flexible option and suited to busy lifestyles
- Having lessons on your preferred timetable
- Focusing solely on your learning requirements and obstacles
- Opportunities to practice in the class with timely feedback

Now I am accepting new students in my private violin / Chinese class. If you have any question regarding my courses, please contact: lartstutor at gmail. I am looking forward to working with you:)

I've been taking lessons for about a month now and I think Lin Is a great teacher. she gives constructive feedback and tells me exactly what I need to work on, why its important to know, how to improve that technique, and then she shows me herself how to do it. she also tells me what I am doing well. I'm enjoying learning from Lin, she is a really nice person to talk to, she is very friendly but firm also expects you to meet her expectations.

I started learning piano when I was five and played classical for six years. I like to play by ear and also took a year lesson in improvisation.

I graduated from San Jose State University with B.A. in Music Composition in 2002 and I've been composing ever since I was sixteen. I wrote a lot of Christian Music both in English and Chinese, Pop, Commercial, and Soundtrack.

My teaching styles are very free according to each student's need and goal. I like to do a consultation with the student and parents before we go into the first lesson.

If you're interested in getting to know more about the piano lesson, feel free to contact me!

God bless & keep learning~ ^_^

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Education & Credentials ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I graduated with a degree from UCLA with high honors (Dean's Honors List, Magna Cum Laude) in Integrative Biology & Physiology. I also took many classes at UCLA in education, linguistics, history, and English. I had a cumulative GPA of 3.838 with 265.5 completed units at graduation and was a 10-time Dean's Honors List Recipient. I also was a member of the UCLA Regents Scholar Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society, and Christian Students at UCLA. I worked as a TA for several undergraduate classes at UCLA, including Education 92F and Life Sciences 2-3. I also have gone through rigorous UCLA and Stanford University graduate-level coursework in science, math, educational strategies, and curriculum & instruction.
I have scored at the 98th percentile on the SAT I/II tests and received the highest score of 5 on multiple AP exams (see below for more details) as a high school student, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. I have been the recipient of over $350,000 worth of many university merit-based invitational and scholarship honors and awards. Some of the most notable scholarships I have been awarded are the Regents Scholarship from both UCLA and UCSB. Both provided me with a large monetary award (full-ride), priority enrollment, 4 years of room and board, and many other privileges, honors, and incentives.
The SAT examinations that I have scored at 98th percentile or higher are as follows: SAT I; SAT II - Math 2; and SAT II - Biology (M). I also took many AP exams during high school, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. Some of the exams that I have taken include: AP Physics B (Score = 5); AP Chemistry (Score = 5); AP Biology (Score = 5); AP Calculus AB (Score = 5); AP Statistics (Score = 5); AP US Government & Politics (Score = 5). I continuously study and retake the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams to stay on par with both the big and small changes each year to the exams.
~~~~~~~~~~~ My Personal Message to You ~~~~~~~~~~~

One of the wisest teachers once said that poor grades, study habits, and test scores are not life-threatening, but they are college-, job- , career-, and quality-of-life threatening. The most competitive students take a pro-active approaching to academics and tutoring while the least competitive take a reactive approach. All you need to do is watching the documentary 'Two Million Minutes' by Bob Compton to realize why students in other countries such as India and China surpass American peers in almost every subject, especially language (writing, grammar, etc.), math, science, and engineering-related subjects. They attend extra classes and tutoring from 6-7 AM in the morning to almost midnight.

In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, there is simply too much to lose by not investing now in your child's or your education. If a student is struggling, it makes sense to get him/her the help needed so that the time spent in school is worthwhile. Great grades and test scores can open doors that may have been previously closed and are also significant factors when determining scholarships, so investing time and effort now can pay off substantially in the future. Finally, let's not forget the most important part in all of this: the student. The confidence, knowledge, and skills that a student gains through effective tutoring can last a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Every day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you might potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test/exam score that will only make it harder to recover from. I have had too many students who could have received the grade(s) they wanted had they contacted me from the beginning.

About Kenisha
Focusing on your different learning modalities, goals, abilities, and interests helps me boost your confidence, which helps you achieve their academic goals. My tutoring and test prep students become optimally prepared for tests. Knowing tricky grammatical and mechanical principles or determining probabilities may not be necessary in communicating basic ideas, but that knowledge makes a big difference in your class placements, and it makes an even bigger difference when competing for college placements and scholarships. Show me a rightly placed preposition, and I'll show you the money.

While I love a good challenge, it's still heartbreaking to be approached by students (or parents of students) who earn A's and B's at school, but can't earn 850 on the SAT, or who take an ESL course, but can't (or are afraid) to speak English (when nece
ssary to meet a goal). There are goals and standards to be met, and I do whatever I can to help you meet or exceed them.

To help personalize your experiences and ensure relevance of sessions:
1. Written and oral assessments are used to gauge your strengths and weaknesses.
2. Periodic quizzes are administered; their regularity depends on the how often you meet with me.
3. Exit exams are administered at the end of your programs.

All I ask is that you are ready to:
1. Shift your priorities, and invest adequate time and energy into getting the results you really want.
2. Be on time.
3. Openly communicate your needs, pleasures, and nots.
4. Understand that while you may notice improvements as early as the first session, total success will take time.

I have a degree in English (with special emphasis on secondary education), and an ESL certification. My 10+ years in the educational arena, and ongoing professional development, have taught me the importance of helping students shift from lower- to higher-order thinking, which is really only coaching you to learn to want to think about the synergy of things, before deciding and acting on them. Primarily, I teach English and language arts at the secondary and post-secondary levels (i.e., middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults), but I have a knack for teaching math and algebra, so I offer lessons in those areas, as well. Prepping students for standardized tests -- GRE, SAT, ACT, HSPT, CBEST, CSET: English -- is a love a mine, too.

Whether for summer or winter enrichment, test prep, help with the naturalization exam, or just a general safety net, be sure to contact me, and we can determine how to work together to create the results you or your child need.

Peace and best,
Kenisha

P.S., Be sure to bring all of who you are to your sessions. Creased, crumpled, crimped, or saggy: I don't care. Just be ready to do better.
