Jessie M.

Pasadena, CA

About Jessie

Every student is a unique person who deserves a lesson customized to his or her individual needs. Each of my students prospers in an atmosphere of patience and encouragement. While the lessons are fun and enjoyable, the serious student will be supported in the development of skills leading to a rewarding career. And the more casual students will grow in an appreciation of music that will always enrich their lives.

As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degre
e at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women the Musical, Seussical the Musical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer at churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to perform and study music because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it.

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life then they WILL achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having FUN doing it!

I am friendly, positive, and upbeat in my teaching, yet I also maintain high standards for my students. I have a very warm personality and and very patient with my students, but of course I challenge them as well! I also put on a recital for my students at least twice a year so that their friends and family can appreciate the hard work they have put into their musical development. Performance venues for my students have included retirement homes, universities, and community centers. I encourage chamber music and organize for my students to play duets, trios, or quartets with each other.

Vocal Training · In studio
Over the course of my vocal studies at the University of Redlands I had the privilege of working with two wonderful instructors: Professor Marco Schindelmann and Dr. Tosh. My junior year, however, I had a unique opportunity to take lessons with Brad, a grad student whom I sang next to in Chapel Singers. When my choral instructor Dr. Andrews first told me about the opportunity to study with Brad I was elated!

Working with Brad that year was the best decision I made. Not only did he take a particular interest in helping me grow, I really felt Brad took time to understand my voice and he really made sure to challenge in ways that I would be receptive to. Also, he is just a phenomenal singer himself with a beautiful voice, and I believe this is vital to picking a teacher.

At the time I was studying with Brad I was also reading The Free Voice: A Guide to Natural Singing by Cornelius L. Reid. If you are a vocal student and you have not read this, you are making a big mistake. But the reason I bring it up is because Brad's teaching really alined with what I was reading. Brad is living proof of the techniques I was reading about, and this was extremely beneficial to my personal growth. This book helped me understand not only my own voice, but the reasons Brad is such an amazing, intuitive teacher.

If you have an opportunity to work with Brad, take it!
I know you will not be disappointed!

I have taken classical voice lessons with Bradley for the past year. Bradley is an incredibly talented vocalist, performer, and teacher. I have seen major improvements in my technique, breathing, and range. He has challenged me and made me work diligently to become a better vocalist. He is supportive and engaged and he has helped me set realistic and achievable goals. I always feel positive and encouraged after leaving a session. I highly recommend working with Brad!

I attended the University of Redlands with Bradley and was fortunate to work alongside him in Lehar's The Merry Widow. Bradley is one of the most professional and polished musicians that I worked with, and he has a great personality and sense of humor! I would highly recommend him as a voice teacher. He is very knowledgeable about singing and has a great deal of experience.
