Music lessons should be fun, encouraging and full of music that you love. They are an opportunity to learn something new, show your improvement, and receive correction, encouragement and praise. Students and instructors should play together frequently throughout and the time should be balanced with theory, technique and exercises, sight-reading, and performance and seasoned with introductions to a variety of music and styles. I like to encourage students to play because they love to play and to find the music that is an integral part of their soul, then to share that with others through performance. What do you want to do with or gain from your music? We will work toward your goals.

About Jennifer

Music is a huge part of my life and I love sharing that with others. Helping and seeing others discover and develop their talents and find joy in music is something I love. I come from a musical family and have been singing and playing the piano since before I can remember. Flute (and piccolo) l

So far so good. First meeting jitters are over. Kevin has a nice calm about him which makes it easy to listen. I've got some homework and looking forward to my next lesson.

Kevin is wonderful to work with. Very knowledgeable, very calm, pleasant personality. He wanted to know first what I wanted to do, but was prepared to start me with the basics - scales - which is where I want to be proficient, so that I can master the instrument. I have no doubt that I can do that with Kevin. Just spent a few minutes practicing my C-major scale using the L-R-R-L-L method. Works great! I just checked email and he'd sent me the printouts he promised. Looking forward to next week!

"I would definitely recommend Marvin as a music coach/instructor to anyone. He has vast set of knowledge when it comes to music and its theory and he continues to inspire me as I learn more about music. He incorporates not only his knowledge but also his experiences when teaching guitar and music in general. He is open to new ideas on how to make learning as fun and as interesting as possible, for instance, he starts off with what you know and what you want to know more, in order to create a lesson plan specifically designed to your style and passion.

Marvin has helped me build a strong foundation in music, and I believe that he can also help you accomplish the same goal!"

"Jeff Johnson is a phenomenal teacher. He's been giving my 13 year old saxophone lessons since the fall, and I've been very impressed with the improvement. He's working with him on both jazz and traditional music and I've seen a lot of growth in the quality of the sound and rhythm of the music. But even more importantly, I've seen a change in my son's attitude. He was thinking of quitting saxophone early in the school year, and now is practicing without being reminded, and wants to stay with it through high school."

What is Speech Level Singing?

With so many different terms out there describing vocal technique, it can sometimes be a bit confusing to distinguish what all of it really means, or to apply it to your vocal study and everyday practice. So What is Speech Level Singing Really?  Speech Level Singing, also known as SLS, is a singing technique that emphasizes the idea that singing is just as simple as speaking. Additionally, SLS makes a point of drawing attention to vocal registration; when singers have a “break” in the …
