About Katie
At just 6 months old my mom discovered me humming “Silent Night”. By age 2, I would sit in the bathroom, holding aloft a Reader’s Digest from which I would “read” aloud, belting gibberish at the top of my lungs. Needless to say, my mother quickly enrolled me in the children’s performing group “Sunshine Generation”, since then its been 23 years of singing, dancing, acting, playing piano, playing guitar and playing the ukulele non-stop.

I love music and I love teaching! I have been studying the subject for decades now, two and half to be exact. First, in private lessons with wonderful teachers, then in Junior High, and High School. Then I entered the realms of college at Citrus, Riverside City College and received my Bachelors Degree in Commercial Music from Brigham Young University. I am a music composer. I write music, lyrics, and sco
re to Film/TV/promotional videos. I am currently on iTunes. I am loving and caring about the students I teach. I've had experience in teaching individual lessons to over 100+ students, singing with touring jazz orchestras, pop/rock groups and directing choirs.

Music is a lifestyle, and it is the lifestyle I love to live. If you want to learn your music skills, let me teach you! Im super fun and I will help you get to the next level! Thanks for reading this, I appreciate it. Don't you feel like you know me a little bit better?

*** Lesson Details ***
If you take lessons with me, you can expect progression! This takes top priority in my mind. It is very important for my students to know that I encourage keeping track of their progress on their chosen instruments. Setting goals and reaching them can be very satisfying! I recognize that every student has different skill levels and I will teach to the style that they best adapt to. One final note to add, they will be loved!

*** Specialties ***
Many genres excite me, however, I excel in Pop, Jazz, R&B, Classical, Country, Contemporary Christian, Broadway, and Singer/songwriter.

About Caitlin
I am a life-long musician and active performer that moved to Salt Lake City in the summer of 2015 from Chicago, IL. I've been playing music since age 5 and have variously studied piano, cello, and percussion. As a double major in Anthropology and Music at Lawrence University (Appleton, WI), I am drawn to music as a creative cultural phenomenon that resonates between all people and it is for this reason that I love to share, teach, and learn music with others. As I build a studio here in SLC I am excited to share my love of cello and piano and my commitment to making music fun as I work to build students into life-long musicians.

My primary instrument is the cello and I have performance experience as a soloist, as well as orchestral and chamber musician. Upon arriving in Chicago in 2010, I served as Principal Cellist with the Universit
y of Chicago Symphony Orchestra for two years and took gigs as a classical and improvisational chamber musician throughout the city. In addition to my private studio, I was the primary cello instructor at Musical Chairs Studio, Inc. and Ortegan School of Music in Chicago.

I am also a percussionist and teacher with Salt Lake City's Samba Fogo, an afro-Brazilian music and cultural organization. I have studied Brazilian music with some of the major musicians and scholars in the field at California Brazil Camp in Cazadero, California. My training in percussion has brought an entirely new perspective to my musical practice that highlights rhythmic fluency and precision as a foundational element for both left and right hand stringed instrument technique.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am excited to offer lessons to people of all ages and ability levels and have experience teaching within and beyond the Suzuki Method approach.

Lessons are tailored to each student’s experience, individual needs, and most importantly, their goals! Lesson plans will combine interactive rhythmic, singing and listening exercises away from the instrument with music theory and technique-building exercises. The aim is to cultivate musicians with strong rhythmic, aural, and technical foundations and great problem solving skills that will open many doors as you or your child grow into your talent.

I aim to develop well-rounded musicians and performers by focusing on these 5 teaching priorities:
1. Balanced posture of body including instrument and bow hold
2. Balanced tone production or "tonalization"
3. A system of "perfect" or excellent intonation
4. Artistic musicianship in performance
5. Learning notes and bowings to new pieces

While learning notes and bowings is lowest on the priority list; it must be taught first! Fun listening games aid in the development of aural memory as I help students acquire listening skills that will stay with them for years to come and allow them learn to play any tune they can imagine. Once my students can do the note choosing on their own we are free to focus on the other teaching priorities during lesson time.

I also focus on teaching my students how to practice efficiently and use excellent problem solving skills! We want to get the MOST improvement with the LEAST amount of practice time. I like to combine practice at the instrument with games and exercises that can be done away from the instrument to give each student a degree of flexibility for those busy weeks when it's hard to find time to sit down and play. Students leave each lesson with a detailed practice plan that breaks down the difficult question of "what" and "how" to practice into a clear, concise checklist of familiar exercises. Students will also have suggested YouTube videos to watch some of the best musicians of all time and learn from their mastery of technique and musicality!

*** Additional Information***

I also have experience with extended and amplified cello techniques using loop and distortion pedals to layer and explore the variety and versatility of the cello.

*** Travel Equipment ***
2015 Subaru Forester that will get me to your lesson with all my instruments and any other equipment each and every time!

I travel to lessons with a music stand, metronome, and all teaching materials that would be present at a lesson taught in my home or studio.

Wonderful! I haven't seen my son this excited about the future of his music in a very long time. She helped him correct a few issues and listened to what was important to him in continuing his musical journey then made a bit of a plan to continue forward. She even stayed a little longer to help with a piece he will be performing in a couple of weeks. She seems to have a very strong classical base but has expanded into other areas, which is exactly what my son needs at this time.

About Suzanne
My number one goal as a teacher is to demystify the voice. Singing can be confusing, elusive and frustrating when you just can't figure out how to create the sound you want. I have felt all these emotions as a student and dedicate my teaching style to helping each student have a solid understanding of how to use their voice correctly and to achieve the sound they desire. Every singer is different, everyone learns and has their "Ah ha" moments from a different inspiration, so I tailor my lessons to cater to each individual's needs.

I'm serious about singing, but love to find the fun and joy in the process; It's very important my students feel at ease, comfortable and free to explore their voice without feeling embarrassed or vulnerable, I create an environment that nurtures free exploration to ensure we can discover what you're capable
of!

As well as voice technique I also offer performance coaching, audition coaching, studio coaching and recording prep, songwriting, and piano for singers.

A little about me:
British-born, Suzanne hails from a Musical Theatre background, a
scholarship student of the UK's acclaimed London Studio Centre, she is proud to the Shelia O'Neil Award winner for "Best All - Round
Performer" her graduating year.

She has gathered international acclaim for her unique vocal style and her commanding stage presence. A true chameleon of voice Suzanne co-created the successful indie band Dark Furs and Jazz Duo Lux and Lois. She works regularly with acclaimed producers and Music Houses lending her diverse vocal and songwriting skills for other artists as well as creating original music for Film and Television.

Suzanne's eclectic background ranging from Musical Theatre to Indie Rock has awarded her with an arsenal of knowledge on technique, (on stage, in front of the microphone, or in the recording studio) as well style, interpretation and performance technique. Suzanne believes the most empowering tool she can teach is to unearth and champion a student's own unique vocal style.

You never stop growing as an artist, or a teacher. Suzanne loves to guide students along the journey of working to their best voice.

After almost a decade of not singing or any singing lessons, I was apprehensive to start again. I felt like I couldn't sing in front of anyone comfortably. Suzanne made me feel like I could finally let my guard down.

Her lesson plan introduced me back into the world of singing gracefully. As the lesson went on, I became relaxed and aware of my voice once again. She pointed out my strong suits which helped me with my confidence, as well as guided me to what I can work on.

Her ability to help you connect to lyrics as well as pairing it with the technical aspect of singing really makes her a standout. Highly recommend!!

He keeps track of your progress and assigns homework to increase your proficiency and vocabulary. He is a wealth of knowledge about the language and the culture; so much that he even knows how it changes throughout the country and will educate you on it. His experience in Italy was such a benefit for me because where I now live in Italy, the locals speak Neapolitan Italian and he was able to help me adjust to my new surroundings and even find a home! I recommend that you choose Peter as your new Italian instructor! You will not regret it!

Music is a huge part of my life and I love sharing that with others. Helping and seeing others discover and develop their talents and find joy in music is something I love.

I come from a musical family and have been singing and playing the piano since before I can remember. Flute (and piccolo) lessons began for me in the 7th grade and I participated in both concert and marching bands from there though college. Now I take regular opportunities to play with various groups of all sizes.

I have taught music (theory, flute, piano and vocal) to students of varying ages and backgrounds both individually and in groups. Working as the woodwind and marching assistant at my alma mater was a thrill and I enjoied seeing and helping students push themselves and reap the rewards of both talent and recognition for their efforts and accomplishments.

While participating in the Prince William Community Band, I had the opportunity to learn to play some percussion instruments and played in that section for a couple years. I have been a music director for several years and enjoy arranging music. It is never to late to start learning if you have the desire and persistence.

Such an amazing experience working with Jennifer. If you are just starting out singing and are in need of learning the basics and more about where you are at in your voice you will be very happy. She is encouraging, fun, and will help you to find where you still need to practice. She will help you to break it down and to get the concepts down. She is also flexible, if you happen to run into a problem like I did with illness. If you are willing to put in the practice, you will find your time with her enjoyable and extremely valuable. I will be working with Jennifer again in the future...

Matt does a great job of adapting his instructions to match where the students knowledge is currently. I started taking lessons from him after spending a few years learning bits and pieces of ableton on my own. Matt quickly figured out where I was, what I can do to improve what I've learned, and helped me make steps moving forward. No matter you're experience level I can't recommend learning from Matt enough. I leave every lesson with so much more knowledge than before that I can immediately start applying to my own work and work flow. Thank you Matt! Looking forward to many more lessons.

I have done several "music production" lessons with Matt online. He is extremely flexible, which has been a big plus for me since I live in Denver and use Studio One 4. Even though his expertise lies in Ableton, the lessons have still been helpful as a Studio One 4 user. Matt is EXTREMELY knowledgeable. He has been able to satisfactorily answer all of my questions. During our lessons, we will work on songs that I am developing. He will listen to the track and suggest areas of improvement. Rather than just telling me what to change, however, he always explains why it would be helpful to make those changes. I've already noticed that I am independently making those improvements in my songs since meeting with Matt. While I can't speak for Matt's other areas of expertise, I would highly recommend taking lessons with Matt for any production/mixing needs!

I am a professional singer and music composition hobbyist. I graduated from the University of Redlands, CA with a Masters in Music, Vocal Performance. During my graduate work, I sang backup to Josh Groban and The Who. I love most genres of music and specialize in classical, musical theater, and sacred music.

Voice students should expect clear and easy explanations (I rarely use abstracts when talking about singing.) I use a method called vowel modification to help my students sing with ease and great quality. Each voice is unique and I promise not to try to make you sound like someone else.

If you are looking for a teacher to teach you the basics of singing I'm your guy. I also coach singers for auditions and competitions. In addition, I advise and prepare high-school students for higher education music programs jump-starting thei
r music education through tutorials on college degrees, music theory, vocal health, performance etiquette, tips on healthy practicing, and so much more.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you succeed in reaching your musical goals.

Jacob was recommended to teach my 9 year old daughter through the University of Redlands Community School of Music program. She could not carry a tune so I requested a professor. They suggested Jacob, and I was so glad they did! In the nine months they worked together, he increased her range and taught her to sing a melody. He always made sure to warm up her voice before performing. Not only that, he tailored her instruction to her needs. I was so pleased that I also hired him to coach my son's for auditions and performances. My older son needed to sing like a munchkin for The Wizard of Oz. He taught him the professional way to sing. The entire theater could hear him clearly without a microphone. I was very pleased with his instruction, and very sorry to lose him. Our loss is your gain!

Hello! I'm very exciting to write a review about Jacob's teaching methods and share my experience with him. I hope you will find it beneficial in choosing him as not only a teacher in vocal training, but also in singing!

The first time I ever saw Jacob was in church as our director. Right from the start, I knew he had professional training in the way he led the congregation. I found myself singing louder and actually trying to follow him! Then, a few weeks after, he stood up during services and sang a solo; my mouth hit the floor! Jacob is seemingly a quiet man so I didn't know what to expect. I mean, I knew how to read music, but could he really sing loud enough for all of us to enjoy! One word: Amazing! After that, I really got to know him in the church choir. Both he and his wife are musically talented and sing beautifully!

My daughter, Tatum, a sophomore in high school, had been singing since she was six -- at home, school, church, and children's theater. She has been in many musicals and loves musicals, but did not have the stamina, nor the expressionism that is really required for stage... and that's what she really wants to do.

As soon as we hired Jacob as Tatum's vocal coach, we had IMMEDIATE results! In her freshman year, Tatum had the confidence and ability to try out for the school play "Hairspray". We were so happy to find out she made it and then even more excited this year when she was chosen as one of four sophomores for her high school choir (that had never been done before)! Recently, she played Sister Margareta in "The Sound of Music" at school. If you know the movie, you know the nuns have very strenuous parts vocally, and Tatum was also known as the "funny" nun so she had to really have confidence in her acting and delivery to get the laughs and while singing -- no less! But the biggest achievement was Tatum being chosen to participate in the All-State High School Choir! This is a five-day conference in which a student has to audition in order to sing with the best of the best in high school. Tatum flew up to San Jose State to attend workshops and sing in the famous Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph. It was magnificent and I know it could not have happened without Jacob's tutelage and encouragement.

We are very proud of Jacob for obtaining his Master's at the University of Redlands. The university is known for its prestigious music program and has many concerts. During that time, as a member of "The Chapel Singers", Jacob sang with "The King's Singers", a famous a cappella group from London ( View on youtube "The King's Singers - Live - Overture to William Tell". After this performance, one member, Bob Chilcott became a faculty member at the university.

As for his ability to teach, he is comfortable letting you observe (as long as his student agrees). My daughter wasn't so keen on the idea, but he had her so involved in her own technique, she forgot I was in the room. I was able to watch her any time I wanted (a teenager letting mom in)! He taught her how to breathe properly and how to hit those hard and high notes that she never thought she would be able to do.

We were -- and are -- so sad Jacob moved away, but we are so proud of him and proud to have had him as Tatum's teacher. I know that whomever has Jacob as a teacher and mentor will be truly pleased with the results in the immediate improvements.

The best part: of all this: You get to hear Jacob sing!
