A graduate from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Cindy is a passionate harp teacher and performer who loves to interact with students. She has taught students in all levels in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Cindy first started harp with her grandmother, a well-known harpist in China, at their home in Beijing. Since she was young, she was greatly influenced by watching her grandmother teach at home. Cindy believes in giving young harpists a well-rounded music education, and she focuses on technique and musicality through her teaching.

About Cindy

Cindy is an active harpist in the Houston area. She is a substitute harpist with the Houston Symphony, the China Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New World Symphony. Cindy was an orchestral fellow for the Texas Music Festival Orchestral Institute and the Round Top Music Festival during the summers.

In general, Great experience with Cindy! She is the best harpist and great instructor!
I feel lucky that I find Cindy on TakeLessons as first harp teacher, she really knows how to level you up based on your situation, no matter how much knowledge you know about harp or music and what kind of equipment you have at home, she will totally work things out with you. Don’t worry about the remote classroom when learning an instrument, Cindy can change your mind and make lessons functional and fun. Already looking forward to my next lesson this weekend. :)

My Teaching Philosophy instills the basics of an instrument by developing focus, musical understanding and physical motor skills.

Regardless of age, each of these aspects must be cultivated in order to produce a healthy and stable musician. Learning focus, musicianship, and physicality requires a returning to the basics after higher skill sets have been attained.

Developing Focus In order to play a piece of music, the student must have a stability and clarity of mind. This can be cultivated through short sessions (5-10 minutes) where the student focuses on their breath, and listens outwards to external sound. Based on age and maturity level, these meditat

I want to have you walking out of the lesson happy, and excited to go home and practice some new material. With me you'll learn about guitar, but you'll also learn about music and how playing can help you in life (perseverance, basic math foundations, etc.)

"As a guitar teacher, Cheryl has been the perfect mix of knowledge, patience and encouragement. I haven't learned how to play an instrument in 30 years and her expert instruction as well as her ability to make me feel at ease about missteps and applauding my successes has made the experience a real pleasure. I can also see that I am making progress. I highly recommend her."

"Daniel is an outstanding musician. I have had the distinct pleasure of witness this both as an audience member at his performances and while performing with me in my jazz trio. Daniel has a deep understanding of both classical music as well as jazz, rock and anything between. And best of all, despite all his great achievements and talent, he comes across as modest person who gives you inspiration to live up to his standards. He has quickly become one of the most sought after bass player and instructor in this region. I highly recommend him.

"Viviana is an amazing voice teacher! She is kind, attentive, talented, and extremely knowledgeable about her craft. In just a few weeks of 30 minute lessons I have already learned more from her than any other voice teacher I've ever had.

I have taken musical theater and classical/opera lessons with her. My voice has grown so much! With the transition to online lessons, I really look forward to my voice lesson every week to break up the quarantine monotony. If you are looking to become a better singer Viviana is 100% the right choice."

"Great Teacher

Though at times his schedule can be a little cluttered, Erasmo is always willing to add another lesson to his calendar. He's an all-around great teacher and nice guy, and this really shows through the relaxed, chill environment he creates during lessons. He taught me almost everything I know about music, and I feel like I can come to him whenever I have a question about a certain technique or piece of music. Respect."

"Lawrence was introduced to me 6 years ago. I immediately liked his smile, personality, and enthusiasm. He brings his opera training and musical theatre experience to the students. Lawrence challenges the students and gives them some theory training in addition to singing. The main focus of his classes at The Neighborhood Playhouse is Acting a Song. He finds musical theatre pieces that allow for emotions and physical actions. He's well liked by the students, with many asking if he'll be their teacher the following year. I highly recommend Lawrence to coach theory, singing, and vocal technique!"
