He has also taken masterclasses with world renowned teachers including Hollywood vocal coach, Seth Riggs.

Charles has served as a preliminary vocal judge for the popular "Gimme the Mike" singing talent TV show on NBC Houston, 97.9 The Box "Hatta's Idol", coached 2 American Idol Finalists, one Xfactor top 10 contestant season 1, and 2 semifinalists for the "Voice". He also served as a vocal coach for Beyonce's Music World Entertainment's Project Popstar, under the direction of Matthew Knowles.

As a life coach, I provide personal coaching for singers and musicians. This process involves helping a singer to first and foremost identify and understand why he/she sings, and what is the message they want to deliver when they walk on stage. In other words, what do they have to say?? From this viewpoint, they can create educational and professional goals based on their highest truth and life purpose. and address any issues that might be blocking them from achieving those goals. One of the major challenges that singers face are making career and life choices that will balance with their artistic or musical goals. In addition, it is very important to know your true gifts, passions, motivations and intentions. Moreover, having a realistic view and understanding of the recording business vs. the music playing business is essential to your overall business plan and success. You must also find the time and energy to pursue your art while making a stable and rewarding living. Lastly, if you are a creative type who is struggling with two common life dilemmas: the "starving artist" who is tired of panicking every time the rent is due, and the " well paid professional" desiring the time to devote to his or her art, then life coaching is for you

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach a vocal technique which is called singing on the speaking level, or "Singing with the ease of Speech". It provides the student with a systematic approach to link together all the registers of the voice-chest and head. The student and I work together to build a bridge between the low voice and high voice, (through the break) combining those parts in the middle creating "the mix" ( a blend of chest and head voice), that most singers struggle to master and the vast majority of teachers don't know how to teach or identify. This allows the singer to access all of his or her range without strain. A student would begin to experience positive results within a few weeks of study, both in the studio and with practice between lessons.

One of the best things about this technique is that it allows you to sing any style of music. Whether you sing Pop/R&B, Rock, country, musical theater, gospel, or opera, you can experience vocal freedom and confidence that every singer wants to have. As a singer, I have had much success with this method, and as a vocal coach, I have found that this technique meets the needs of any kind of vocalist and/or style.

I began my singing career 10 years ago and deliberated at length as to whether or not I needed or would benefit from vocal lessons seeing as I already knew how to sing (or so I thought). After my first lesson with Charles, however, my mind was opened to a variety of extremely useful techniques and methods that have drastically improved my singing abilities and overall performance. Whether you're a seasoned professional or are just getting started, I highly recommend taking lessons with Charles. His upbeat, encouraging attitude made me feel very comfortable and capable and I look forward to my lessons each week. Charles is a 5-star teacher, musician, and singer hands down.

I have sung for as long as I could speak! I hail from a family of recording artists and have graced the stage since the age of 4. During high school, I learned to read music and took piano lessons. This peaked my interest in wanting to learn the fundamentals of music so I decided to major in it in college.

I then went on to Xavier University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music. While at Xavier I participated in many productions. I also received a Xavier University Music Scholarship for four years. I have been working with Mrs.Shakeatha for sometime now. I'll never forget my very first lesson, I was so nervous, for many different reasons, but without even trying she made the atmosphere welcoming, nonjudgmental, noncritical, and enjoyable. she is extremely patient, has never been rude, harsh, or critical, even within the past lessons. She is very professional, very intellectual (on many things, not strictly musically or vocally), very positive, very thorough, very loyal, and very helpful. She is able to coach at a professional level while still always reminding me to keep it fun, and to enjoy the process. She neither sugar coats nor over exaggerates, and has always had my best interest in mind. The months under her coaching I have been extremely beneficial and I have (and still am) learning so much. Strict but fun and enthusiastic, these words were said by my students after years of teaching. In Piano lessons, I assign diverse music repertories in order to assist students to have the ability to grasp the essen
tials of each different style of music. Learning piano skills is very important, but note-reading, theory, ear training and music history can't be neglected. I will include all these subjects consistently during the lessons to help the students build stronger and richer musicality. One or two recitals will be provided by me, all the students are encouraged to participate in the recitals.Students are also encouraged to take advanced performance opportunities, in church, school, and joint studio recitals. I must be notified at least one month in advance if the student desires to participate in the events.

-Daily practice is strongly recommended. It is important and necessary for steady progress.

Hsin-Jung has been teaching and performing in both Taiwan and the U.S. for years. She is a patient, professional music instructor, and would like to bring the joy of classical music to all students.

Hsin-Jung T., a native of Taipei, Taiwan began her piano studies at the age of five, and composition studies at 18. She attended the Hua-Kang Art School in Taipei, where she majored in piano performance. In 1996 she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Music Theory and Composition from the Taipei National University of the Arts, Taiwan, where she studied with Nan-Chang Chien. Hsin-Jung then came to the United States in the fall of 1997 to study at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College of City University of New York (CUNY), where she received her Master of Music Degree in 1999 while studying wit
h Bruce Saylor. In 2000, she studied at the PhD-DMA program in music composition at the CUNY Graduate Center, where she is studying with Tania Leon and Bernadette Speech.

Through her involvement in programs such as the Taiwan-Japan Exchange Concert “Euterpe Spring ‘99”, conductors Sung Su Jeong, Chun-Fung Lee, and Lance Inouye as well as the Juilliard String Ensemble, the Contemporary Chamber Orchestra of Taipei, and others have performed Hsin-Jung's compositions in Japan, Taiwan, and the United States. In May 2000 Hsin-Jung held a program of her chamber music at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall. Among her recent works are two film collaborations, Poetry of A Painter, a clarinet solo piece composed for a short film on the life of the artist Fernando Gerassi; the score for Allatonceness, a multimedia performance where the composer also conducted; music design and improvisation for a documentary film Turning Japanese; music for Palace of Loneliness, a play by Dorothy Tan, produced by MultiStages, Inc. and HERE Theatre for the Performing Arts in New York; The Music Composition Award for Capturing The Spirit of the promotive film from Asian American/ Asian Research Institute in New York (2002); and the score for a documentary film Ocean and People produced by Civilization Explorer Association [CEA] (2005). In 2006 Hsin-Jung was invited as a guest composer and held a solo composition recital at Tarrant County College South Campus, Fort Worth, Texas.

In 2008, Hsin-Jung relocated to Houston, where she has been actively contributing her compositions, as well as performing as an improvisational artist.

I am patient, and detailed. High concentration and certain skills are necessary in learning classical music; thus, I will be focus on build up student's concentration, fingering skill (writing skill in composition), and understanding of music. Students will learn how to play in a beautiful tune, how to "listen" with both ears and heart, and how to concentrate on what they are doing, and most important -- enjoy what they are playing, and what they are composing!

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

So far, I look forward to each lesson! Troy is very kind, yet very helpful and has helped me target on my personal goals with opera while also learning more each time! I highly recommend him. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in voice or only experience in voice ( as my experience is theatre and musical theatre), he is patient in helping you achieve the goals set. I cannot wait to continue lessons with him!

About Minzo
My name is Minzo, and I'm a cellist and educator originally from Philadelphia! I graduated from the Peabody Institute of Music of the Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelors of Music in cello performance. Upon graduating in 2016, I moved to Houston in order to pursue a Masters of Music degree at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.

As an educator, I have experience teaching young children who have never touched a cello before, to advanced college students who have been studying for as long as I have! Each student has his or her own difficulties, and my lessons are tailored specifically for each student. From week to week, whatever the issues, the student can be assured that specific difficulties will be targeted.

If you are a beginning student, young or old, I will teach you the basics of cello playing, such as hand p
ositions, note names, and terminology of the different parts of the cello. As you become more advanced, we will begin to explore musicality, such as shaping phrases and understanding how the music works as the composer intended. I do encourage an open dialogue between the student and teacher, as often there might be something that I can learn from you!

As a cellist, I have had the honor of performing for and working closely with artists such as Steven Isserlis, Robert DeMaine, Jeremy Denk, and countless others for masterclasses and concerts. In order to get a sense of where my schooling is from, I studied for 5 years under Alan Stepansky, who is the former Associate Principal Cellist of the New York Philharmonic. Currently, I study with Desmond Hoebig, who has had the title of Principal Cellist of the Cleveland, Houston, and Cincinatti orchestras. I have learned everything that I know from these great cellists, and I hope to pass what I’ve learned on to you!

Minzo was my summer instructor for three months. Though I only had the opportunity to be mentored by him for a short period of time, by the end of the summer I could easily see how greatly and quickly I improved! He is a fantastic cellist, and it goes to show through his ability to develop technique and musicality. I always felt motivated and challenged during our lessons. He is a great teacher for any cellist regardless of prior experience or skill level!

I have been drumming since 1993 and I have been a professional drummer since 2009. I studied under the houston legend Joe Raynor. I studied Jazz Drumset Performance at the University of North Texas under Ed Soph.

I have been playing in bands my whole career, I released my first album at age 16. I have played drums in every state in the lower 48, I have toured to Europe 8 times.

I have performed professionally in these genres:
Rock, Ska/Reggae, Jazz, Punk/Hardcore, Rap, Country.

My teaching focuses on three areas Technique, Reperitoire (songs), and Theory.

I can teach from age 7-70 from beginners to professional. I am a proud Dad and I have the patience to teach your child.

Drums is my life, I have seen the world from behind my drumset and I love to share my experience with you.

Couldn't be happier with the lessons our son is taking with Michael! Not only is he learning the skills he needs to actually read music instead of just playing it- it's in the style of music he loves! He isn't bored or at home searching videos online- he is actually learning and enjoying it!

I have been playing drums for over 10 years. My first lessons started at the age of 13 from a gospel drummer at my church. Since then, I’ve had the privilege to train under the guidance from some of the greatest drummers alive such as Matt Halpern, Jojo Mayer and Matt Garstka. I’ve been playing in a band for most of my drumming career and have played all the venues around Houston.

I have strong roots in metal drumming, but also have branched out into almost every genre there is. Reading and understanding percussion notation is very important to me and is one of the staples of my curriculum. I love every opportunity I get to teach, wether I spark a new passion in someones life, or just help them pick up a new hobby.

Hi there! My name is Tszto and I am originally from Hong Kong. I graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music with a Master degree in Cello Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy. I recently moved to Houston to continue my studies as a graduate student at the Shepherd School of Music of Rice University.

Having 20 years of playing experience definitely helps my teaching. Also, I have been through a period of three years without a cello teacher and having to re-work myself for all the basics and fundamental work after I started taking lesson again. This experience taught me so much on how to start learning the instrument from scratch and also how to "rehab" your bad habit.

As a pedagogue, this is my 8th year of teaching the cello. I am fully trained and registered with the Suzuki Association of Amercas. I have a Master degree in Cello Pedagog
y. I am teaching mainly in Suzuki Method. I was an assistant teacher at the Sato Center for Suzuki Studies for two years. I take students from age 3 up and in any level.

As a cellist, I have the privilege to work with some of the greatest musicians in the world such as Lorin Maazel, Lynn Harrell, Peter Salaff and the Cavani Quartet. I received the Appassionata Endowed Scholarship in Music from Shepherd School to study with Norman Fischer. Before I moved to Houston, I studied with Mark Kosower, who is the current cello principal of the Cleveland Orchestra. I have had the honour to receive the Hong Kong Arts Circle Fellowship from Asian Cultural Council and the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs music scholarship for my studies. I am also the Gold Prize Winner in Cleveland Cello Society Competition – Collegiate Division and the 1st Place Winner in American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition in 2016.
