I'm Wes, a freshman Classics student at the University of Florida (UF). I've studied Latin and Roman history since 7th grade, earned the highest score, a 5, on the AP Latin exam in 9th grade (after which I also studied Ancient Greek), and have audited graduate-level Latin and Ancient Greek courses at UF; in my second semester here I am also an enrolled student in a graduate Latin class. I love the Classics with all my heart and would love to teach you Latin, reading it, writing it, or even speaking it.

Hi! I’m Wes, an undergraduate first-year Classics (and soon also Business) major at the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville. I absolutely love the Classics, and not just for its practical benefits. Latin makes one a better writer and a better thinker: but more than that, learning to read ancient literature in its original language exposes you to (literally) a whole different world of religion, culture, and history that will fascinate you, keep you entertained, and provide a constant source of pleasure your entire life. You are a traveler in the ancient world and every little thing you learn is another big discovery: the whole thing is very exciting.

I started learning Latin with a private tutor in 7th grade, with whom I’ve continued lessons up to the present (alternating between Latin and Ancient Greek since 9th grade, when I received the highest score, a 5, on the AP Latin Exam). I have studied Roman history on my own for just about as long. More recently, I have audited graduate-level Latin and Ancient Greek courses at UF; in my second semester here I am also an enrolled student in a graduate Latin class.

I have inherited a certain approach to Latin tutoring from my own tutor - I know what works, what does not, and what both tutor and student must do to ensure success. Starting with a textbook and then with Latin-to-English translation of easier ancient texts, the student will move on when ready to the great Classics of Latin literature, accompanied all the way with historical and cultural instruction to fill out the Classical education. Exercises by way of practice would include independent work (such as writing in Latin as a way of learning how to think in the language), should the student desire this. There will be an emphasis both on the understanding of texts and on their appreciation.

My name is Jenni and I am a professional Latin and Greek teacher with over fifteen years of experience teaching and tutoring both Latin and Ancient Greek. I have taught professionally at the elementary, junior high, and graduate levels and I hold a Master’s degree in Classical Philology. I currently work at the Polis Institute, where I teach Greek and Latin as living languages to graduate students. 

I also have familiarity with spoken Latin and Ancient Greek, and I teach all of my professional courses in a 100% immersion setting. My passion is to show every interested student that they have the capability to master these languages.

With specifically tailored instruction, either  as a supplement to current courses or an education ab initio (i.e. from the beginning), I will work with you to help you access the beautiful literature, history and music of the languages of the Ancient World.

I have a passion for ancient Greece (especially the Orphic hymns) and am lucky to have such a wonderful guide and tutor.  Eminor has been so helpful in teaching me grammar (and checking my Greek translation homework!), and in providing commentary on one of the hymns.  I can't wait to dig in more!

I have been studying Latin since 2005, and I have been teaching it since 2011. Many approach Latin with great apprehension, having heard that it's an almost impossible language to learn. For that reason, I know that students who choose to learn Latin most often do so with a specific goal in mind. My name is Eminor (my preferred name!), I'm a state certified teacher with many years of experience teaching and tutoring both in and out of the classroom, and I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals. Qualifications:
-     Graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University with a BA in Classics, Greek focus, and a minor in Japanese. 
-     Graduated with Merit (UK equivalent of a 3.0 GPA) from The University of Nottingham in England, Master's in Ancient History.
-     Texas state certified to teach English both level and advanced for grades 9-12.
-     More than a decade of tutoring experience in English language arts, foreign language, and study skills; five years of classroom teaching experience: one year at a private academy of students with learning differences and disabilities and four years in public school.
-     Have taught students as young as 8 years old and as old as 63
-     Coached and ran academic clubs and extracurricular clubs such as state spelling and writing competitions and creative writing clubs.
-     My proudest accomplishments to date include teaching an elementary student to love classical literature and one of my Latin students going on to join and excel in college translation courses as only a junior in high school.

I have a Ph.D. in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Philosophy, and further degrees in French and German, and thus more experience and expertise - having taught these languages in many countries - than the average teacher.

I have several university degrees, including a Ph.D., in Latin, Ancient Greek, French, German, and Philosophy, and I have lived, studied, and taught for about two decades in France, Germany, and several other countries, and have native fluency in these and other languages.
In addition to teaching languages, I am also a violinist, someone who has loved the instrument since childhood and has taught it for several years now. I studied the violin for many years under a well-known Georgian (former USSR) violinist.
I teach all these subjects - Latin, Greek, French, German, and the violin - on all levels, from beginner to advanced, and all ages, from young children to senior citizens and every age in between. As always, whether it is music or languages and literature, practice makes perfect, and pursuing one's subject consistently is of the essence.

I was having trouble understanding stuff in Latin. I started tutoring with Ms. D and things started falling into place. She came up with a lot of different activities that helped me understand what was going on. Because of her, I ended up getting an A for the semester.

I know my mom is also writing a review but I wanted to say how grateful I am for having DP (that's what I call her) as a tutor. I signed up for the AP exam in October and found out I was way in over my head. I started tutoring with DP and by May I was confident that I would pass the AP exam.
