Maggie is absolutely one of those who made this possible: she was one of my teachers, and she was simply great! She helped me so much in those months, and I really enjoyed following her classes. I think she is a brilliant, naturally gifted educator, enthusiastic and accurate. She is professional, serious, and her methods are simple and effective. She can always find ways to make things easier, even the most difficult ones (grammar for example!), so that meanings/concepts/rules would become clear and fixed in our mind.
She is also a very nice and generous person, always available to help: she cared so much about our education, making sure nobody was left behind, and every time I needed some extra explanations, she was always there to give more information, making examples taken from the everyday life, using tricks, songs, newspaper articles, connecting so theory to practice.

My passion for performing and teaching brought me to TakeLessons as a way to enrich my immediate community (and beyond through Skype lessons!) and help individual students perform at their best. A native of Charlotte, NC, Zachary began his musical career as a tuba player and jazz bass guitarist. While attending The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Zachary began singing in various vocal groups on campus and developed his love for the singing voice. With encouragement from the music faculty, Zachary began training as an operatic baritone while at UNC. While attending UNC, Zachary was awarded both the Fischer Scholarship in Voice and the Tony McDowell Voice Scholarship. His singing brought him to Boston in the summer of 2010 to begin study at The Boston Conservatory. While performing various opera roles and attending summer programs, Zachary also opened his private studio and taught at a local music academy.
Baritone Zachary B. is quickly establishing himself as an active operatic performer. Equally at home on the recital stage, his versatile lyric baritone voice fits a wide range of repertoire and styles. A graduate of The Boston Conservatory, Zachary has performed roles like the titular role in Don Giovanni, Ramiro in L'Heure Espagnole, L'horloge comtoise in L'Enfant et les sortileges, Pooh-Bah in The Mikado, and Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief.
Starting in February 2013, Zachary will also be available through TakeLessons for online instruction. Lessons will still focus on energy, breath, and solid technique, so please contact him if you think this venue of instruction will be a good fit!
*** Lesson Details ***
Regardless of your background, I believe in making lessons fun, encouraging, and accessible. This means that my work with you will, by nature, be incredibly personal and always formulated for your specific musical goals. I will constantly strive to make sure you are comfortable in our work together as we explore singing, speaking, and music theory.
I believe every singing or speaking voice can benefit from a foundation in classical vocal technique. Whether you prefer to learn through singing songs or through various exercises, I can customize our lesson plan to fit your needs. Therefore, I provide a fun and engaging lesson atmosphere, but you need to bring your best as well! We will both be happier with the process if we are equally invested in your growth. We will start with something you already know (an aria, vocal exercise, or excerpt from a song) and work toward singing in your preferred vocal style. For example, classical singers will build their knowledge of English, German, Italian, and French diction and song styles. Additionally, I will always respect and include my student's musical interests.
Along the way, I am happy to address basic music theory ideas. If you prefer, we can also spend additional time reviewing and learning those principles to enrich your musical experience. I will always provide different exercises and ideas to keep your brain active in the singing process.
I believe in whole body, whole spirit singing. As a performer, I employ a variety of holistic exercises and theories to develop my own voice, such as basic Alexander Technique principles, voice therapy techniques, a variety of pedagogical palates, and energy work. If these sorts of things interest you, I am more than happy to incorporate them into our lessons. My personal results with those practices have been incredible, so I am always eager to share.
My personality is outgoing and energetic, so I bring that sort of atmosphere to a lesson. I expect preparedness and readiness on your part to maximize our work together. My greatest desire in teaching is to see you grow! So, if a challenging, yet comforting, work environment sounds like something you would like to try, consider scheduling a trial lesson with me. I prefer for my students to have a keyboard or piano, and if possible, a music stand. We can always make a situation work if the student does not have access to these tools. I provide music, pencils, etc.

I am an opera singer, and specialize in classical singing. However, I apply similar vocal technique to all genres of music, and focus on breathing technique, body and energy awareness, and discuss a holistic approach to singing with all students.

My instruction extends nationwide, with students from all corners of the US, utilizing online tutoring services such as Skype.
My main field of study is in MATH (trig, algebra, geometry, precalculus), CHEMISTRY (high school and college), and PHYSICS (high school and college).
I completed my Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics Education at Hunter University and have gained experience with both in-person and online group instruction and curriculum development.

I do Regents and SAT/ACT prep for these subjects as well as the GRE (These are NYS based High School Preparatory Exams - do not hesitate to ask should you need assistance with the ones offered in your state/country).
In addition, I am thorough and meticulous, by paying special attention to how the student grasps information and retains it, I prepare individualized handwritten reviews, with supplemental material found online and in texts.
I assign homework to keep my students ahead of what is going on in class, and a visual and intuitive understanding of the concepts I present is important to me, so I use visual aids (diagrams and interactive models) to help my students integrate what they learn with me in real life situations.
My instruction includes:
1. Tutoring based on the school curriculum
2. Instruction on the home-schooling curriculum
3. Assisting those with a gap in going back to school/university.
I start with an assessment based on what the student has trouble with or last remembers covering in school, and prepare material going from there.
As a result, my students all have improved grades without any need for cramming before tests, and I encourage a stress-free and easygoing learning environment.
My lessons are fun and enthusiastic - these subjects are beautiful and will help open your mind to new ways of thinking - whatever your field of study!

I see marked improvements in their grades for this past year, and my eldest is actually skipping fourth grade as a result of lessons. I am astounded as to my girls' progress, and greatly appreciative of our tutor's expertise.
Her patient, methodical approach to teaching is why I see us remaining with her for all of our educational instruction. She has already taught arithmetic to my youngest (3rd grade), and algebra to my eldest (starting 5th this sept!), and is proceeding with more advanced math with no issue whatsoever. I was introduced to the violin at the early age of 5. I quickly found a deep passion for the violin and would play all day and night, much to my neighbors' dismay. I joined the NY Young Musicians' Ensemble, where I was given the opportunity to travel to Greece to play at numerous concert halls. I attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School as an instrumental major and took music theory/ history and ear training courses along with daily orchestra classes. At Hamilton College, I joined the orchestra and quartet ensemble, appropriately named, “Hamstrings”. I was asked to join the saxophone ensemble in 2015 and also took upon a Teacher Assistant position for a Jazz MOOC. In November of 2016, I moved to Chongqing, China to work at Musicool Music & Art, where I was a Music Instructor, an English- Chinese Translator, and the Education Program Coordinator. I had the wonderful opportunity to develop comprehensive and innovative curricula to match the needs of multiple age groups, lead classes in both English and Mandarin Chinese, and assist other teachers in accurately translating class content. To tell you a bit more about myself, my mother is Dominican/American and my father is Lebanese, but I was born and raised in Paris, France, which explains that I speak French, English, Italian and Spanish fluently. From a young age, I have had a deep appreciation and passion for languages, as well as other cultures. I moved to NYC to attend Columbia University, where I studied International Relations. I started tutoring on the side while in college and absoluty love working with children. Since graduating, I work in tv/film production where the hours are always changing, which would allow me to continue tutoring. I have always enjoyed teaching English to little kids and adult friends in Italy, so I can only enjoy teaching Italian even more. Although I'm enjoying this adventure in the US, I miss my country tremendously and teaching and speaking my own language is one of the things that excites me the most. I have also travelled Italy and most of Europe extensively, and I love discussing about all the different cultural environments that I've experienced.
