Hello and welcome to takelessons.com! My name is Jessica and I am classically trained violinist with over 20 years of playing experience. I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and recently relocated to Saint Louis County with my family. Music has always been passion of mine since a very young age, so it was inevitable that it would end up being my career. Naturally, a love for teaching the wonders of music followed suit!
I always try to form a great rapport with my students and parents from the very first lesson. For younger students, I encourage my parents to take an active part in both lessons and daily practice, as is encouraged by Shinichi Suzuki.
I've been teaching violin and viola professionally for over 12 years now. My experience includes teaching private lessons at students homes as wel
l as at various music schools, summer camps and festivals. A few advanced students have even attended and performed in some of these aforementioned festivals! I am always encouraging my students to go above and beyond.
A bit of background about me: I started my music studies at the age of 7. Lessons and orchestra were literally the highlight of my childhood. I ended up attending the Baltimore School for the Arts for high school, and went on to receive my Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Shenandoah University and complete further studies in England, Northern Ireland and Maryland (UMBC graduate certificate). I am also a registered Suzuki Violin/Viola teacher and have attended many teachers workshops in order to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to work with any and all types of students, including those with learning disabilities, such as ADD and FAS.
*** Lesson Details *** While I am a registered Suzuki violin teacher, I do not teach solely out of a certain method or "by the book"; I choose and mold every lesson depending on specific, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you are a more advanced, serious player, more intensive lessons and repertoire will follow suit.
I am comfortable teaching all ages and levels up to advanced. Use of games make learning the violin fun and accessible for young children. Older and more advanced students receive a more technical, intensive and advanced approach. Coaching and weekly help on school assigned materials (orchestra/string class music and homework) Classical, Jazz, Gypsy and Fiddle styles are all introduced and studied to give students a rounded technique. Music theory (reading and understanding music) is incorporated in lessons. Repertoire is diverse and exciting. Various approaches for the visual or aural learner. Guaranteed to keep you or your child engaged and interested!
*** Equipment and Studio Lesson Details ***
-If you are coming to my home for lessons, please be sure to bring your instrument and any books you may already have.
**Please note, there are three cats in the house. They are usually isolated to a different part of the house during lessons to ensure there are no unnecessary distractions and to help minimize potential allergies (studio is also sprayed with allergy reducer spray and vacuumed regularly). All are UTD on shots. Please call and ask to schedule a "trial" lesson to see if the animals interfere with allergies.
New students: You may park on the cul-de-sac next to the house and walk down. I have a trial 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 size violin to use for the first lesson if your child is a beginner. After the first lesson I will send an email explaining what materials and equipment I recommend you buy to help you sound your best.
Places to rent or buy instruments will be recommended upon request.
*** Cancellation/Reschedule Requests *** 1) At least 24 hours notice is required if you need to cancel your, or your child's, lesson. You will be given the option to take a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons on your calendar, or the option to reschedule for a different day within a week of the canceled lesson.
2) If you find that you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice you will be given the option to make up your lesson within 7 calendar days of your originally scheduled lesson time. If you cannot do a makeup lesson, this will result in the lesson being marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.
3) If you do not show up to your lesson scheduled at my home studio and no notice was given, the lesson will be marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.
4) If I need to reschedule or cancel a lesson for whatever reason, you will be given an option for a makeup lesson or given a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons.
5) I require two weeks notice to discontinue lessons if you would like to receive a refund or be exempt from paying future tuition.
6) All lessons are billed ahead of schedule and must be paid in advance in order to keep your lesson slot.
*** Specialties *** Suzuki Violin/Viola Method Music Theory Tutor Genres: Classical, fiddle. Experience teaching ages 4-Adults.
About Me: I am an experienced classically trained Pianist who has been playing since the 3rd grade. I enjoy all styles of music and love sharing that enjoyment with my students. I have certification from the State of Missouri that I am proficient in educating beginning Piano students and have continued to expand my knowledge through my participation with local musicians’ groups. I am also working on expanding my instrumental abilities through perfecting my percussion skills and planning to learn guitar.
Experience: I have taught students for over 30 years and have seen many changes in both student’s preferences and the style of Music and instruments preferred. I am comfortable with both traditional pianos and organs and modern electronic keyboards. I have given lessons in my home, my students’ home and retail studios.
Methods & P
hilosophy: I use Piano Adventures as the basic course guide. I have found it the most productive and enjoyable for my students. I us a minimum of the Lesson and Theory book. I add the other books that accompany each level based on the particular students needs and interests. I believe that a good grounding in Theory is essential as a student who becomes proficient in sight reading, no matter how well he/she plays by ear, will find that the doors for lifetime musical fulfillment with be much wider. However, with a student who has already had some lessons I will be happy to continue with any method that the student is currently using.
Lesson Style: I also believe that Piano Lessons should be fun. Since I generally teach one on one, lessons can be tailored to each student and I add supplementary material to the Piano course as soon as possible based on the student’s progress and interests. I am willing to add supplementary music in most any genre from current radio hits, to Pop Standards and soundtracks, as well as Holiday Music based on the student’s culture. There is no proper pace as long as the student is willing to practice and is interested in learning. I am always surprised and happy when a student “gets” the language of music and really starts to express himself/herself through the instrument and I always find that my students teach me as much as I teach them
Kathy is very fun and enjoyable. We laugh during my lessons and she is low pressure. She makes the entire process of learning an instrument fun!

I am VERY pleased with Kathy as my daughter's piano teacher! She is patient and knowledgeable giving a very well rounded lesson. She includes theory in her lesson plan and I think that helps my daughter in her understanding of the whys...

Kathy came to my home for my lesson. She has a very pleasant personality and it is very easy to follow her instructions. She kept the pace up, yet did not overload me. It's been a number of years since I have played and she did an excellent job on getting me back on the keys. I am looking forward to our next lesson.
Explains everything in detail , moves in a progress in which I retain the knowledge very Easy.
I highly recommend Mel.

Hi ! My name is Daniela and I can't wait to meet you! I have been teaching piano and theory since 1994 and have loved helping my students discover the beautiful world of music. Seeing my students grow into well rounded and educated people that love art, are able to recognize different styles of music, express their feelings and emotions on this wonderful instrument makes me really happy. My students range from people who simply want to learn how to play proficiently as a hobby to students who are considering making music their future career. I strongly believe that a chance to go on a big stage and play on a great Steinway piano in front of people, makes a big difference in children's lives: teaches them self control, gives them great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Taking part in festivals and piano competitions helps
with building high self esteem even more. I look forward to helping you and your children to reach your goals!
Daniela is wonderful and our lessons are always fun. She lets me play pieces that I enjoy plus introduces me to new music that she believes I will also enjoy. She allows me to play freely but will correct my mistakes (wrong fingering :). But this only make me a better player and learning a new piece easier. As an adult learner I cannot say enough good things about her and her style. I really enjoy my lessons with her and I highly recommend her.

Daniela is obviously a skilled piano teacher. She connects well with my 8 year old son, and I am continually surprised by all of the details that she is able to perceive over skype- every finger placement, gesture, etc. She is careful, thorough, and kind. We are thankful to have found her.

At the age of 58 I decided to start taking violin lessons for 2 reasons, enjoyment of playing music and exercise my brain. I found Lucy K on the takelessons.com website and she was able to accommodate my request for lessons in my home on a Sunday. Starting from scratch, she taught me the fundamentals of playing and I have made some progress over the last 8 months. She is patient with me yet will push me along and at time bring me out of my comfort zone, which is good. She has the ability and training to teach students from early age to older adults like me. In addition, she also teaches piano, which my wife started lessons with Lucy K at the same time I started violin. She has my recommendation if you have interest in either violin or piano.
I was a combined piano performance and theory major at Texas Christian University. I was fortunate to have studied with some of the best teachers in the world, including Mme. Lili Kraus, Miklos Ivanich and Dr. Stephen Swedish. After college I taught fro several years to mostly grade and middle school students. I happy to say the after many years I am still in touch with many of them and they are still playing, and appreciate that I taught them the love of music. I work at my student's pace. I do stress learning everything correctly before advancing. Students work at different paces, which is why I do not feel that group lessons are useful for many students. I am very patient with a student's progress as long as he or she is learning.
Playing piano is more than playing the right notes. It is more than adding your feeling to the music.
It is what inspired the composer to write a certain piece of music. What was his inspiration? It is the responsibility of the teacher to have studied in depth the composers to be able to transfer that message to the students.
My students range from total beginners (adults and children) to college students needing additional help preparing for juries and recitals.
Hi there! I've been playing guitar for over 13 years. Throughout those years I've been in many many bands. The first started in my buddy's garage (because his parents actually bought him a drum set!). I've been taking lessons ever since I was in 7th grade and love playing all different genres of music. Nowadays, I am a music student at SIUE studying Jazz Guitar and teaching myself blues riffs. I write and record my own music and play around town as often as I can.
I love sharing the gift of music with others and seeing the look on students' faces when they play their favorite songs. I am extremely patient and guarantee I can teach even the most stubborn students. I am also very flexible when it comes to lesson plans. The first thing I like to do is sit down with the student and determine his or her own goals. Do you want to learn your
favorite songs? Or maybe you want to learn how to improvise and solo like your favorite guitarist. We will definitely focus on learning to play with others. After all, music is meant to be shared!
If your one of those people who has some experience with the guitar but maybe you've put it down for a while and want to jump back in, then I'm your guy. You've already got some knowledge and muscle memory. Let's work with that and get you rockin' again.
If desired, I can offer crash courses in recording your own music, singing while playing, and how to get started writing your own songs. Really I'm here to help you get where you want to be. And if you don't know where to start, don't worry! I've been there too and would love to be the one to get the ball rolling with you. Playing an instrument will be one of the most fun and rewarding experiences of your life.
I spent a lot if time searching/researching/talking with various guitar instructors....finding teacher fit is PRIORITY #1 for me. Joe was patient, thoughtful and most importantly all about what will work best for my young son. Lesson one was a big success in my book.....I am grateful and blessed to have found Joe. On to lesson #2. :)

About Italian L
essons: I was Chair of the Department of Italian Language and Literature at Alexander&Buono International Academy from Sept. 2014 till Sept. 2016, teaching young singers Italian Diction and Literature connected to Opera. I teach private students since 2016, beginners and advanced levels. I worked with different kind of students: beginners that only wanted to learn basic conversations so to be able to speak while in Italy for the summer, moms that want to learn Italian diction so to be able to read Italian books and to sing Italian songs to their kids, beginners with deep interest in Italian grammar and comprehension. Feel free to contact me with your requests and we'll organize a plan of studies adequate to your requests.
I've had 5 lessons with Benedetta and she is fantastic. She focuses on technique which is so important for singers to master. I made progress after my first lesson and each week she teaches me something new. I highly recommend her and if you want results, she'll help you get to the level you want to achieve!
"I am really enjoying my lessons with Richard so far. He is very knowledgable and his tips have been super helpful. Definitely recommend!"
"Donnie is by far the best guitar teacher we've had. We've had three, so that's saying something. He is engaging, keeps my son happy with interesting and
familiar guitar music, and is encouraging in his instruction and corrections. He's a gem. Sign up with Donnie, you'll be happy you did!"
"Philip understood what I am looking for and my goals. He was easy to follow and explains the lesson well."
"It was good and well informed"
"I am 8 years old. I like Jonathan because he is patient with me and really helping me to be a better guitarist."
"My lesson was great. I’ve struggled for years to really get everything to come together, and I’m already starting to see and feel how Rick is, and will co
ntinue to, make that happen."
"Antonio is a talented musician who kindly plays the guitar for some of my Flamenco dance classes. He also participates in some of Tablado Dance Company pe
rformances as a guest artist and it's always a pleasure to share the stage with such an artist!"
"Easily the best music teacher I have ever worked with!
I have been taking lessons with George for a few months now and it has been great! He is very kn
owledgeable, conveys the material very clearly, and is super easy to get along with. My favorite part though is how much he has been able to structure lessons to my individual goals and after each lesson I really feel like I am closer to reaching those goals. I also don’t have the most teacher friendly schedule and he is great at finding time to get me in. I would absolutely recommend him to students of any age, background, or genre interest!"
"Jared is real patient and easy to learn from, he keeps things simple and makes sure you understand."
