I am a native French Canadian. I can help with anything from pronunciation, to writing, reading, homework, AP classes, and more!

About Andree-Ann
Hello!
Welcome to my profile - I can't wait to start working with you!

I have been teaching piano and general music topics for over 10 years, and I am currently on the faculty at California State University Los Angeles - needless to say, I've seen students from all ages, all backgrounds and all levels. Lucky for me, they all one thing in common: a strong desire to learn music, and an open mind!

Some of my younger students have gone on to audition for arts high school in the greater LA area, and I've also helped a few prepare for college auditions. I've also been working with several students to prepare Certificate of Merit exams (in California) and I have been affiliated with the Southwestern Youth Music Festival as well. Other little ones were quite content learning how to play their favorite Christmas song or impress their fri
ends at their school's talent show.

I have also taught adults, who used to play and decided to pick it up again - or newbies wanting to discover the wonders of jazz standards.

In short, whatever your personal goal is, I can help you achieve it and hopefully inspire you to set a new goal to achieve right after that!

I can also help with music theory entrance exams, tutor for AP music classes or college classes, etc.

*Quick note on online lessons:
Many prospective students are wary of online lessons and not sure if it's the right way to go for them - I always tell them that you'll never know until you try it for sure! I have taken online lessons myself in the past and loved the experience. I can also attest that several students get a much deeper musical understanding this way, because teachers can't just play an example and have the student copy it - the teacher actually needs to explain how to perform the passage, which leads to the student understanding clearly what is expected and how to achieve it, rather than just copy someone's hand movements without understanding why they are doing it in this particular way. I'm sure you'll also be more relaxed in the comfort of your own environment, at your own scheduled time!

Professional Bio:

Canada-born pianist Andree-Ann has performed extensively across North America and Europe; her work has been heralded as “…Gorgeous, gritty, powerful, and traditional, all in one package” (The Music Farmer).

Specializing in familiarly-danceable yet traditionally-influenced Latin Classical music, Andree-Ann has found a calling for her art on the Left Coast, an ideal melting pot for blending cultures and musical styles. Aside from being recognized as a semi-finalist for the American Prize and nominated at the Utah Music Awards, Andree-Ann’s first album, Cervantes, Lecuona & Nazareth earned the Global Music Awards’ Silver Medal for Outstanding Achievement. Most recently, her Summer 2016 release, Milhaud & Ginastera, blended French, Canadian, Brazilian, Argentinean, and American musical traditions – perfectly timed with the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This album has also been recognized at the Global Music Awards in September 2016.

With keen interest in developing her uniquely diverse repertoire, Andree-Ann regularly performs as a soloist, chamber music (in a piano-percussion duo), jazz pianist, and accompanist in the Los Angeles area. Her training includes a Master of Music degree in Afro-Latin music from California State University Los Angeles, and she is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Claremont Graduate University. Prior to relocating to Southern California, she graduated with honors from Humber College in Toronto, Canada.

Cervantes, Lecuona & Nazareth has been featured as “New & Noteworthy” on iTunes Canada, and may be heard on KXLU 88.9 FM. Andree-Ann’s music is also available on Amazon, CD Baby, CD Universe, and Arkivmusic.

A great teacher who can adapt to all levels. I was worried about the quality of online lessons since it was something I've never tried before, but was astounded by how productive it has been. Andree-Ann is very attentative, knowledgeable, and relatable. She explains things in a way that breaks complex things down into something easier to understand. And she is observant! Even on skype she can catch incorrect fingering, and doesn't let you get away with bad habits. She's brilliant and a great teacher.

I've been wanting to learn jazz piano for years and skype lessons with Andree-Ann has made this possible. She's very knowledgeable of the subject and supportive and patient. She's been very willing to individualize lessons to incorporate instructional material and songs I'm interested in working on. From my experience I would recommend her without reservation.

Andree-Ann is a great teacher! I hadn't formally played piano in about twenty years when I decided to start taking lessons again. It's like she picked me up and scrubbed all the rust off and now I'm playing better than I think I ever played. She's super patient, breaks the music down into digestible parts, tells you what you need to work on but also acknowledges your improvements and the things you've done well. As an adult learner, the pieces I'm working on is mostly self-directed with her guidance, which is cool. I would totally recommend her.

What most schools skip over is the ability to speak foreign language, an opportunity that often doesn't come until you live in another country. Instead of trying out route conversational patterns, I start with what makes people smile. My goal is to find out my students' interests and talk about them together, developing vocabulary, confidence, and the ability to explain ourselves even when we don't have the exact words. We can also study for exams, read french novels, and learn correct grammar.

About Walker
Working with teens and adults, I'm learning that language is about connection. What do you connect to in this culture, in these sounds, this perspective? Language expands our power to connect with the world. Sometimes that means enjoying foreign cartoons, at other times making conversation in another country, maybe even reading and writing tweets across the globe. Whatever your motivation may be, I am here to encourage and guide your growth and goals. I've studied and lived in both France and Japan, and built relationships with acquaintances and long term friends alike through these languages. Tutoring I began first with fellow students at DePaul in 2012, facilitating round table discussion with exchange students, and working as an English conversation partner. Since then I've been leading group classes with homeschool students in a Chica
go Co-Op, as well as with private clients in person and online. There is great wonder in language and crossing into new territory; this drives me to share what I have learned with all the people who want to learn too. Focus and determination, along with the right resources and support, can bring you towards your goals. I am here to help.

Thank you very much for helping me, You are one of the best tutor which I had during my study at ELA(DePaul Language Academy). Walker has a great personality and patient for teaching his students the best language skills. Walker`s subjects is not only enhances the language skills, but also the way how a student has to interact with environment which he lives in. He uses different teaching approaches such as games, sports conversation , and deep cultural conversation to make a student gain enough self-confidence to use the language properly. Besides that, his correct use of language skills enhances the students capability for taking more space, and feel more comfortable using the language. Thank you for teaching me English, thank you for making me feel comfortable while I am talking mine 6th language. The most important part of his tutoring sections is the way who he provides the information about the cultural environment, so to help the students to be solid against any culture shock waves. Thank you again for being such a great tutor. Thank you for encouragements, They helped me to feel more confidence while I am using the language for my academic purpose and among my friends.

Walker is an awesome instructor. He's funny and warm and practicing conversation is always something I looked forward to! He's hands-down my favourite tutor I've ever had. As Japanese is such a complicated language, that's saying a lot. I had tons of problems with grammatical rules and Walker really made me feel at ease with his easy to understand explanations. I learned more Japanese in our weekly conversation sessions than I did in a year of my college classes. ウォーカー先生、ありがとうございます!^ - ^

Bonjour! Je suis ici pour vous aider avec le français! I'm a professional opera singer who has studied french since middle school. I would love to help you learn French or improve upon what you've already learned. Whether you're planning a trip to France and would like to practice a bit before you leave, or you need help studying for your next exam, I can help you set and achieve your individual goals.

About Kelley
Whether you've never had a voice lesson in your life, are looking for fine tuning, or are just curious, I'd love to help you set and achieve your goals! I've studied classical voice for over 15 years, and started teaching about six years ago. I focus on breath control, relieving body tension and any hindrance to beautiful and free sound, diction, and interpretation. I speak French, some Italian, a little German, and can also help with Czech and Russian diction.

My goal for students is that they develop the healthy, efficient, and reliable ability to express themselves through music in a safe and fun environment. I've studied with some of the finest pedagogues in the world, and am comfortable teaching students at any stage in their musical development.

***Lesson Details***
For beginners, I like to focus on music fundamentals, inclu
ding theory and aural skills, and building a solid foundation of breath management. For more advanced students, the focus will be refinement and fine tuning--whether it be working on dramatic interpretation, freeing up the sound and any tension in the body, performance anxiety, or languages. We can work on operatic, song, musical theater, and jazz repertoire, languages and diction, dramatic interpretation, and performance skills.

I believe very strongly in singing repertoire appropriate for your age and level, and will not do anything to compromise your development.

Learning to sing requires a great deal of hard work and commitment. Each lesson, I will leave the student with specific exercises and pieces to practice before the next lesson. New exercises may pose challenges, but that's part of the process! If you are struggling with a particular assignment, please do not hesitate to communicate with me, and I will guide you through it, or find an alternative to help you achieve the same goal.

We are all different, and so have different learning styles. Singing lessons should be therapeutic, gratifying, and above all fun! I don't ever want singing to turn into a chore or something you don't enjoy. This should be fun!

***Travel Equipment***
Student should have either a piano or keyboard. A CD player, mirror, and yoga mat are a plus.

***Skype Equipment***
Computer with high-speed internet. I can supply electronic files for sheet music and accompanied tracks.

***More about me***
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Originally from Seal Beach, CA, soprano Kelley received her Master of Music from Rice University, where she studied with world-renowned voice teacher, Dr. Stephen King, and her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from The University of Michigan. Kelley is a qualified pedagogue who exhibits that all too rare balance of consummate professionalism with a friendly personal touch. She teaches a healthy vocal technique, based on current science and traditional methods, always keeping an eye on the artistic and expressive goal. While some teachers just work on your voice, Kelley also coaches the student as they work to integrate their ideas into a musical/dramatic presentation. Kelley has trained with some of the best teachers in the United States and has a wide knowledge of repertoire both in the classical and Broadway/cabaret genres. Her extensive language skills also make her a great resource for students studying the classical repertoire specifically. I do not recommend voice teachers unless I trust their knowledge and professional demeanor implicitly.

I'm currently an Assistant Professor of Voice working in a school of music at a famous university in a major US city. Over the years, I have sent a variety of my students to work with Kelley, from ages 14-60. Across the board, they all have had a rewarding and fun experience, making significant progress both technically and in their self-confidence. I wholeheartedly recommend Kelley to anyone looking for a voice teacher.

M. Marie Roche conducted on the campus of U Mass eight seminars--open to all--on two of Shakespeare's history plays, King John and Richard II. Neither play is popular with modern Shakespeare-going audiences. But she accomplished the nearly impossible--making both plays compelling and relevant by her selection of background documents and themes. I hope that TakeLessons can provide an adequate platform for her level of sophistication.

I am originally from France. I really enjoy teaching French because kids challenge all the time, in a nice way. You've got to explain things all the time and that gives me a fresh perspective on things and keeps me questioning things myself. I enjoy taking my time to teach and improve the kids to learn the language while at the same time being very patient to explain deeply the material. It has been 3 years now that I teach french. I make sure that my students are comfortable and productive with the work we put on. I am also very fun and open to help them to speak up when they have difficulties with the pronunciation. Come learn french with me we will make the lessons fun and very productive :).

About Leila
I am very fun and open to help my future students to speak when they have difficulties with the pronunciation. When I teach, I give all my best to make sure my students understand the material and improve themselves during the lessons. I am VERY PATIENT when it comes to explaining things and to build prior knowledge. I speak clearly in ways that make the lesson clear. I am also really organized, can break things down and clarify the objectives. I never try to trick my students and my goal is that everyone experience success. It includes me also, I succeed when my students do :).
