Kevin F.

Memphis, TN

About Kevin

I have had a fairly diverse musical background, including playing with bands and orchestras, as well as participating in choral groups and opera. I have a master's degree in music performance for wind conducting, and a bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on piano performance.

I have taught private lessons for several years now and I love every moment with my students! I have a real passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with others, both failures and successes. I believe everyone has creative potential, and I believe music is a real universal art form that anyone can tap i
nto if they want. Above all, making and creating music should also be fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
I try to keep my lessons professional but comfortable too. I don't yell at students for messing up or anything like that. I usually have an agenda but am willing to adjust and compromise if the situation dictates. If you don't have a curriculum in mind, I like Alfred's piano courses, but will do my best to find one that fits you as a student best. My initial goals are to make sure the basics of reading music and performing are set so that no matter what musical avenue you want to pursue, you will be successful. I do specialize in classical music but enjoy creating and playing in other genres as well.

I now also offer lessons online, as well as tutoring in most math areas!

***CANCELLATION POLICY***
I kindly ask for 24 hour notice whenever possible if a lesson is going to be missed. Generally speaking, if I don't hear from a student and their lesson time passes I will mark the lesson as missed, but I am also usually more than willing to make up the lesson at a later time.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a piano keyboard at my home.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect students to have their own instruments as needed, as well as music paper, pencils, etc. I may be able to provide some of those materials on occasion as well as some books/recordings, but will by and large expect students to purchase those for themselves.

*** Specialties ***
I am much more familiar with classical styles and Broadway. My music writing style tends to be somewhere between neo-classical and avant-garde.

Kevin had been my teacher for piano and music composition until I left Memphis. As a person, Kevin is very kind. He has naturally gentle personality. As a music teacher, he is knowledgeable and patient, with great musicmanship and sincere love of music. He points out where I could do better, but never criticize. He helped me improving my piano playing to a higher level of techniques and musicality. I learned a whole lot from him also on music theory and composition. The lessons were both pleasurable and rewarding. I really miss the lessons with him and will highly recommend him to anyone.

Russell R.

Germantown, TN

About Russell

My name is Russell "Rusty" Rainey. I have been a professional guitarist for 25 years. During the past 25 years I have managed the area's largest music stores, opened a Guitar Repair Center and became a "Certified *Fender Guitar Technician" . My experience with other musicians on stage and in the studio is without parallel. A "school" cannot duplicate real world experience. I understand the frustrations associated with finding the right person who understands how to treat you as an individual. A great instructor will not teach out of a book, they will write a book for you. A real Educati
on in "playing guitar" is much broader than what you can learn from a book. I can help you understand the guitar in a practical and logical way, how to become a "guitar player" - not just how to "play the guitar". Lets talk about how I can help you meet your goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
I want to make our time together something that you will look forward to each week. The guitar is a very expressive and diverse instrument. My goal as your instructor is helping you reach your own goal. I teach each student in an individual way based on your interest, and my assessment of how to help you reach those goals, every lesson is time YOUR time! I take time before each lesson planning our time together. Commit 3 months and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish, 6 months and you'll begin to play through songs, after a year you will look back with pride and realize how much you have learned. I consider myself "laid back" and easy to talk too, but I will encourage you to accomplish what I know you can. When you put forth effort forth, and follow your lesson plans, you will have a great experience! ~Rusty

*** Studio Equipment ***
HOME: lessons in dedicated music room, guitars, amps, bass guitar, music stand, cords, cables, picks, tuners, stand.....

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide any materials and or equipment relative to the area of study for myself in addition to the student should that situation present itself.

*** Specialties ***
Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Blues, and Country. I teach "slide" guitar for those students who are interested in learning more about "delta-blues" and rock guitar utilizing the slide in style very similar to Z.Z. Top.

Brenton M.

Memphis, TN

About Brenton

I have been playing the cello for over 20 years. Throughout that time I have been taught in many of the popular training techniques, including but not limited to: Suzuki, All For Strings, Alexander Technique, Popper, and Schroeder studies.

In my career as a cellist, I have performed in professional level orchestras in Central California, Southern California, and Southern Arizona. I have also been playing for private events and weddings for over 16 years, playing almost every genre of music imaginable. In my short career so far, I have had the privilege to play for numerous popular bands an
d record and multiple record albums. All of my experience in practical music applications helps me to inform a student that there is a large amount of opportunities for musicians to play outside of a traditional orchestra. It is important to know that the cello is an instrument that has broken through traditional barriers and is used in almost every genre of music currently.

*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach a lesson I make sure that the student is my first priority and they each have a unique lesson plan designed to focus on their strengths and give them the best opportunity to succeed. Each student that I teach is encouraged to set a goal for themselves that will challenge them without making them feel too much pressure. My goal is to make lessons fun so that there is incentive to practice every day and feel a great sense of accomplishment after every week of practicing and lessons. Even though I know that not all of my students will go on to play cello professionally, I teach them with the expectation that this will become a deep passion that they will cherish for the rest of their lives, just like it happened with me.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dining area setup for lesson with keyboard, guitar and cello, waiting area for parents available in living room. Guest parking available. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide stands and some music. Students need to provide instrument, chairs, a location to teach.

Beth has been extremely helpful in everything from helping us set realistic goals to honing technique to make you a better singer. Both myself and my wife have learned so much in a short period of time. Beth is a talented musician and very experienced instructor. She makes learning fun as well as very targeted in helping improve vocalists ranging from beginners to experienced singers.

Beth is a very talented vocal teacher - as a guitar player with no vocal experience Beth helped me find my natural vocal range and taught me to sing on pitch in the first lesson. After 2 lessons I am breathing correctly, have the self confidence to sing in public and helped me to become a more versatile musician. We since added my wife as well - we will continue to take lessons from Beth. Anyone serious about improving or learning for the first time would benefit from her knowledge and expertise.

What Are the Best Violin Brands for Beginners?
