It has been truly incredible to witness my fiance transform in a few short weeks from someone scared of learning a new instrument to someone who is confident that he can learn a new skill provided he puts in the time and effort to practice and show up! Michael has given him the confidence and the inspiration to make amazing progress as a student.
I highly recommend Michael as an instructor. He really makes the virtual format work and he knows how to introduce beginner musicians to the joys of learning how to express yourself on an instrument.

How do you write a great song?
Start with a song you love.
Learn it, take it apart and study it from top to bottom.
Use some of what you learn and write a soundalike, or combine it with elements of other songs you know and try making something new.
Record, perform, share and reflect.
One song at a time, you figure out how the process works, and you'll shock yourself with what you write and sing.
That process gets tough, but I've been through it many dozens of times (and counting) and I'm here to share what I know and help you discover your process.
Over the last five years, I've helped students go from zero experience to finishing their first song in less than a month.
I've also helped more experienced students break plateaus in their songwriting and release singles or EPs that stand head and shoulders above their previous work.
I'd love to help you write your first song, or your best one yet- shoot me a message and we can get started!
My musical life started at the piano when I was four. I've spent the last five years helping students understand the sounds that speak to them and bring them into their own music-making. I spent my early years playing piano, then picked up the saxophone, which took me to Berklee College of Music,

Currently, I teach at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, at my studio “GIFT” in Kettering, and with the New Horizons Program through the University of Dayton. Memphis has one of the best stories about amateur musical talent hitting it big. When Elvis Presley walked into Sun Studios downtown to pay for his demo tape, Sam Phillips signed him on the spot, and a legend was born. Some of the greatest recordings in rock-and-roll history were also performed in Memphis, including Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison. Memphis is music, and perhaps you have been thinking about making your own mark on that history.
The best way to advance your talent is to expose yourself to professional techniques through Memphis music lessons. TakeLessons helps you connect with the best possible teachers in your area, making your search easy and convenient. All of our instructors are background-checked and interviewed to determine their qu
