I am a Brazilian guitar player who started by playing blues and rock on the electric guitar, and then moved into Samba, Bossa Nova and fingerstyle on the nylon-string guitar. Today, I play mostly Latin styles and a little bit of Flamenco. I also have a year of conservatory training under my belt, as well as a background in West African percussion, and culminate all of these styles together as a composer.

As a teacher, I cater to your aptitude and your goals and make sure that you are having fun while you grow. That means learning actual repertoire of music that you want to study. Some students want more music theory than others: and that's totally fine! But I like to always have a song as a context to study that theory. Afterall, we want to use theory to actually make music!

About Tomas

My name is Tomas. I am a Brazilian-American polyglot musician and language instructor. I play music and teach English/Portuguese for a living, and have been doing so for the past 7 years! I also learned Spanish and French through music, so I know a lot about those languages and the styles of music

"I thought trying to learn to play the guitar at the age of 35 with no musical background, with kids and a full time job was a daunting task. That was until I met John. I have had 30 minute lessons with John for the past year and a half. There was a steep learning curve for me in the beginning, but John remained very patient and encouraging. His knowledge of music and his ability to explain and teach in a way that I could understand is second to none! I can now play a couple dozen songs and have a great foundation of skills to play many many more! I recommend John to anyone of all ages who wish to learn how to play the guitar."

"I have been taking guitar lessons with David for a year and a half. It has been a blast to learn guitar from him. Whenever possible, he likes to structure his lessons so that you're playing music and it doesn't feel like you're doing drills, but when I have to work on something specific he gives me great drills to work on.

I've learned everything from Bach to AC/DC, from The Beatles to Rush. David encourages me that I'm improving, but also pushes me to continue to improve.

I am learning a lot under his tutelage, and I am going to keep learning as much as I can."

"Knowledgeable, Encouraging, Experienced

I came to her studio with no singing experience whatsoever. I was a little nervous to start singing in front of people, especially since I thought my voice had dried up for lack of use. But I felt totally comfortable from the very first lesson and I soon looked forward to singing every week!

After only a few short weeks with her guidance I have increased my range by a perfect fourth up and a major second down! My vocal control has greatly improved and now I KNOW I can sing confidently. Definitely recommend this instructor."

""Jameson is incredible. During my junior year of high school I was not selected for the All State Choir and it devastated me. Jameson was a fairly new vocal teacher in the area and was so accommodating to me when I reached out. Under his guidance I was able to further my confidence as a singer and a performer. Jameson's focused optimism really drove me to push myself. I am so thankful for my time with him and I would recommend him to any student who is ready for the "next step" but isn't quite sure where to go.""

Feeling Bored? 3 Ways to Stay Motivated at the Piano

Are you getting bored or perhaps discouraged with playing the piano? In this week's guest post, Allysia from PianoTV.net shares three ways to stay motivated at the piano... We all know the drill with motivation. You listen to a great recording or live performance, and are filled with energy and enthusiasm. You rush to the piano and happily practice every day for a week, a month, or even longer. But then maybe you get bored, or hit a rough patch, and suddenly you can barely drag yourself …
