American Sign Language

My name is Sheilah and I am from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I grew up in the Deaf community and started church interpreting at 14, and started interpreting professionally at 18. I worked mainly in the educational setting; however, I also did my own freelancing and love to do musical interpretation. I quit interpreting professionally in 2018 as a QAST level V interpreter, because of a bilateral hearing loss. I love to teach and I love sign language and Deaf culture!

Want to challenge yourself and your signing abilities? Ready to ensure you're prepared to move onto Advanced courses? This class is right for you! For 30 minutes, you will have your voice off and will be signing only to your instructor and fellow classmates! Come to learn to new vocabulary that comes up during conversation or signs that you specifically would like to learn!

Just had my first class and it was so fun! I've been wanting to learn ASL for a long time and finally decided to start, and I'm excited to work with Sheilah. She started out the class with a lesson plan in mind and it went by really quickly. Looking forward to more lessons!

She was awesome! Very patient and encouraging. Enabled me to think for myself. If I didn't know the sign, she showed me but I had to try them out and make up my own mind. Can't wait for my next lesson. She really motivates me.

Shelia is an amazing teacher and very interactive with her students. She is always willing to teach you any sign you wish to learn and allow her students to practice their sign with eachothers.
