Sewing with me will not only teach you the basics but will help you delve into your creativity! Also, as someone with stress, I find sewing can help relieve some of it, and I can show you how to apply mindfulness techniques to make the most of your experience with sewing.

About Adeline

Hi! I grew up loving art, and then became interested in fashion and sewing during my teen years. After interning with a local Chicago designer I decided to go to university for apparel design. After graduating I had several jobs, one as a seamstress and most recently one at an embroidery shop where

I have been teaching small group classes of children between the ages of 5 and 13 since 2010. My favorite memory from my earliest class was when my 10 year old student went home and adjusted her mother's sewing machine to sew properly! I have taught classes from very basic sewing machine skills to machine quilting.

About Angela

I learned to crochet in grade school, taught myself to knit and learned to sew from my mother at a very early age. Teaching grade school children/students is my passion. I believe learning to knit and sew can help students learn a level of patience and persistence that will help them in their schoo

I have taught fashion sewing in the NYC garment district for 11 years. Students ranged from teens to adults, aspiring designers, those interested in better-fitted clothes or in saving money with simple alterations. The method we use is very simple working on basic projects to increased skills as projects progress. I love sewing because it’s therapeutic and rewarding. Getting a compliment on something I’ve made is rewarding especially when followed with, “Thank you. I made it.” Sewing truly is something you can control when the world feels out of control.

When I teach classes it is so important to me that everyone completes a project no matter what. Learning a new skill takes requires willingness, a great teacher with patience and a cheerleader.

"Ok...First I have to say, I am so pleased to have signed up for classes with Mya. Choosing to take sewing classes with Mya is hands down one of the best decisions I made and will continue to make. She is intelligent, very knowledgeable in her craft (or rather crafts), friendly, considerate, patient, and a great conversationalist. I hands down recommend taking a class or classes with her."

"My first lesson went great! Anne showed me everything I needed to know to help me begin practicing on my own with confidence. She does have two small children who were well behaved, but if distractions are a problem, I would mention that before taking your first lesson. At the end of my two hour session I had sewn my first bag and now have something to show my friends and family! Thanks, Anne."

"I contacted Mya in the beginning of January because I was in the process of applying to fashion school and needed help and guidance constructing my design ideas. After I showed her my patterns, fabrics, and sketches, she confidently reassured me that everything would be okay. I came to Mya's home studio three-to-four days a week for three weeks. And during each lesson, she was incredibly patient in explaining sewing terminology, demonstrating techniques, and making suggestions on how to improve my designs. She was so knowledgeable that, at times, I felt like I was taking a college level sewing class. Seriously, I LEARNED SO MUCH! Moreover, Mya was sweet, funny, and incredibly hospitable. One evening, when I arrived to her house with pants wet from snow (because I had spent 1.5 hours digging my car out of my parking space), she gave me temporary clothes to wear while mine dried in front of her heater! No matter when I showed up, she always greeted with a big smile. I truly felt welcomed and accepted in her presence. And, even better, I finished my sewing projects nearly a week before my application deadline!!! THANK YOU, MYA :-D"
