My custom lesson plans are based on the student's own background and experience. I am always committed to making each lesson fun and exciting!

Wanted to share my experience. I'm in my late 30's and wanted to improve my chess skills, and i'm so happy I was able to find Sam. The lessons are challenging, but at the same time very fun! I have already improved my USCF rating by 372 points in 3 months!! After having tried 3-4 other chess teachers, Sam's been the absolute best and will stick with him!
I teach chess in school settings and private lessons. The skill of students ranges from beginner to intermediate. Some of my students have ratings up to 1200. I can teach you at your home, at my home, or a public place like a library or coffee shop. A typical lesson will be an hour and include a quick chess puzzle, a substantive and level-appropriate lesson, and a challenge game with analysis. All lessons are very dependent on student level, and may include only some of those components.
I have been working with students for several years in formal and informal settings. I have a degree in psychology, with a minor in statistics. A couple years ago I began coaching chess at several local DC area schools, and tutoring private students. I love to help people learn a new subject, and I am especially passionate about engendering the joy of learning in young people. I've recently moved to the Harrisbug, PA area, and am now teaching lessons here!
Beginning students can expect to learn piece movement, game rules, point value, notation, opening theory, pawn structure, en passant, check v. Checkmate v. Stalemate, pawn promotion, castling, and more. Intermediate students can expect to quickly refresh on all the above as well as learn techniques like pins, forks, skewers, discovered check, double threat, advanced openings, end game theory, tournament prep, and so much more.

A bit about myself, I started playing chess at the age of 9 and have been playing ever since. I have been apart of several championship teams, and I have achieved many individual honors as well. I currently play chess professionally, teach (k-8) afterschool lessons for Chess Wizards, head instruction for the youth/adult program Rebuild Knights, and I am a member of team Illinois. My lessons include worksheets, gameplay vs. Myself, and a tablet for cpu play and analysis. If you have any questions feel free to ask! Let's schedule your lesson today!
Great lesson! He made sure everything was understandable, and easy to remember.

I just want to say, "I am very pleased working with Thomas." I never thought that I could master the game of chess especially by being impatient and a slower learner. This is my fourth lesson and I have already played a game of chess. Thank You So Much, Thomas. I can't wait until my next lessons.
I have been playing chess for well over 30 years. I have taught one on one children and adults for about 10 years. I have great patience when I teach students never believing that any concept is too difficult to understand or master. I have a love for the game that I want to instill in others I have hundreds of chess books and have gotten to know lots of chessplayers throughout the years. I do my best to have my students gain and UNDERSTANDING of the game rather than just rote memorization.
I have been playing chess for 30 + years and have a USCF expert rating. I have taught chess in afterschool programs and one on one in homes for over 10 years. I feel I have great patience especially with young children as their attention span is usually not that long. I have taught children as young as 4 with success . Learning chess at an earlier is better in my opinion I have a psychology degree UCLA I do some acting and have appeared on national commercials and some films ie. Ocean's 13. I am located in the West Los Angeles area and do housecalls
I just wanted to say thanks again for the direction and advice. I am motivated to work harder and focus on making my calls structurally sound as the “next step” in becoming a Master chess player. I appreciate all your help and guidance through this process.I recommend Frank coach to make you better players, I can't thank him well enough for all the lessons I got from him, a great coach! Thanks Frank

Coach Frank has helped my chess game improve 300 points and climbing. He teaches in your learning style. If you want to improve your game and learn principles that are not in books I HIGHLY recommend Coach Frank.
I'm a passionate chess player with an extensive knowledge of chess theory who specializes in teaching beginner/intermediate (up to ~1600 USCF) players of all ages. Lessons will be personalized to focus on student's weaknesses and areas of needed improvement, as well as generalized chess instruction. Chess is a great platform to improve critical thinking skills and one's ability to focus, as well as a great way to have fun. My lessons will help you or your children gain an understanding of the art of chess and improve your confidence and ability to play the game.
I'm a class B (almost class A) player who has been playing chess seriously for just over a year, though I've been playing the game since I was a child. I regularly play in competitive over-the-board tournaments, as well as playing daily online. I have an International Master as a coach, so I am constantly learning myself and I understand what it's like to be a student of the game. I can analyze student's games, identify weak areas of play, and develop a personalized routine to help you improve. Every day, I dedicate hours of studying to chess openings, tactics, chess history, endgames, and strategic concepts, and I am eager to teach this information to others.
Had a nice online 1-hour lesson with Kyle, who helped me with some of my questions I had in certain position. Helped me realize which parts of the game I had to work on more.

Great instructor. Really knows his stuff and comes prepared to help you develop your skills in the most effective way possible. I had a great experience and learned a ton in just a one hour lesson.

Dude really knows his stuff and goes above and beyond to try to help you identify your weaknesses and then improve on them. I've already gone up a few dozen rating points and I've only just started with him.
Become a better chess player today! Whether your a beginner, or have some chess knowledge, but just want to improve your game, then I can help you. I have been playing chess for over 20 years. I love the game of chess for various reasons, but the main reason is because it helps exercise your brain and teaches you how to develop problem solving skills, creativity, self-confidence, and focus. Adding to this the fact that it is fun and it doesn’t have to be boring which I will make sure of that. It is perfect for children to help develop them in all of these areas and more. So let’s go ahead and learn and/or improve your chess today!
My name is Luis Urrego and I was born in Colombia South America. I came to the United States when I was 7 years old and was raised here for most of my life. I am bilingual with my first language being Spanish and my second language English.
I currently work as a Web Designer for the Hall County School District in Gainesville G.A. and have been with them for over 8 years. I have been doing Web Designing for over 20 years though.
I am also a church minister and missionary and have done quite a few and extensive trips to Spanish speaking countries where I have had to both preach, interpret, and translate between English and Spanish. I have also done interpreting work for hospitals and am certified as an health care interpreter for the state of South Carolina.
One of my past time recreations is playing the game of Chess. I love the game
itself for the fun factor, but mainly for the social and behavioral developmental aspects of it. I believe it is a very beneficial game not just for adults, but especially for children to help develop their brain at an early age.
My main goal is to serve others in the best way possible and to see that my students become stronger and are satisfied in the area that I'm teaching them in.
