My review is basically the same as the one below - my son is a little slow at guitar and Nelson is SO patient with him. You can tell he loves music and he really enjoys the teaching process. What a great find.

I have taken 8 lessons with Nelson and I'm very happy with him as my teacher. He is an accomplished guitarist, but more importantly, as a teacher he's very patient and allows me to learn at my own pace (which is slow). I would recommend him to anyone wishing to learn to play the guitar.

Mr. Tony

Lodi, NJ

About Tony

Passionate about sharing my love of the guitar with students of all ages, I've been teaching for more than 30 years. A trained Flamenco guitarist, I found, at the tender age of 7, my passion when I heard the world-renowned Flamenco guitarist Sabicas. Studying Flamenco since then, I began, during my teens, performing professionally and have had the honor of performing with such nationally known musicians as Billy Bang (legendary fiddle player), Willy Calhoun (Living Colour), Vassar Clements Band, Tom Chapin, Stanley Jordan, Buddy Miles, and Michael Powers. In high school, I enrolled in an Honors Musicianship class at the RiverDell, NJ, Senior High where I learned to read scores, conduct and identify multiple instruments, sight read, orchestrate scores and compose music. Following my ...

Tony has been teaching me for nine years and he truly believes in teaching his students not only the basics of learning the guitar but why the instrument is such a privilege to play and teaches based on the students ability. He also teaches the history and evolution of the guitar and also facts that i never knew that made me very proud to play such an instrument. He sees the potential in the student and encourages them to go beyond where they think they can go and makes it happen. Tony slowly built up motivation in me to keep exploring on my own and he planted the seed of wanting to practice to the point where playing guitar became one of the most important things in my life and i do not think another teacher could have done the same thing. I started to explore YouTube and teach myself a lot of the songs i wanted to learn starting with chords, then finger picking, then adding percussion, and finally putting all three together in many arrangements. I would never have been able to figure that out or have the motivation to if it was not for the things he taught and showed me. Now he teaches me many new techniques involving flamenco and you really cannot get all of this with someone else. Some other people I know have different teachers and i can tell by the way they talk about them and what they are learning that they do not compare to mine. I am really lucky to have ended up with someone who has such commitment and I am always super excited to keep learning what he has to teach. His knowledge is endless and it blows me away what he shows me. Tony never tries to make any of his lessons boring and he definitely has a talent not many people have. I recommend Tony, 100%.

Tony has worked as guitar accompanist for the past year and a half with our 700+ religious formation students from K-8 as well as our whole church assembly. He has played classical to contemporary Christian music with us and is fantastic. As a teacher myself, I see him as an ideal person to learn from. Tony is patient, kind, knowledgeable and tuned into kids as well as adults. You couldn't want for more in a teacher.

I strongly endorse Tony as a master pop and classical guitar teacher (as well as a dynamic, highly creative guitarist and pop/rock/folk tenor singer). I received a Master’s Degree from the Juilliard School in 1986 in voice, and he and I have worked on a weekly basis at churches and concerts since 2007. His mastery of incredibly rapid finger techniques in all major and minor scales, widely varied strum technique in so many different styles, understanding of audio production and vocal-instrumental microphone usage, as well as soulful improvised counter melodies is unmatched in my experiences. He also taught my son guitar, as well as many of my parishioners at my church, and they went on to playing frequently during church services and many other venues. His manner with children and teens is very gentle, humorous and witty, and is instantly beloved by all who meet him. Throughout my career I have rarely heard an artist who has more artistic and musical impact in concert or religious events than Mr. Tony. And the line of people wishing to meet him after concerts is so long that he does not leave events for more than 90 minutes or more. You cannot do better anywhere than having Mr. Tony as a teacher, colleague or friend.

Irina is the real deal. Im a professional musician and am fortunate to make a living singing, playing guitar, and songwriting. I first met Irina in 2013 after a gig downtown. Most people say "great show". She said "I love your music but you are hurting your voice" LoL..

I put her card in my wallet but blew it off until this past February when I was struggling with another sore throat. Turns out I really WAS hurting myself every time I sang. I guess I was born with a good enough voice to get by all these years, but I actually had no technique. My breathing was all screwed up and I was grinding my vocal chords.

Irina helped me fix all that and taught me a bunch of other tricks of the trade to improve range and blow the house down without hurting my voice.
My voice is more powerful now with less effort and no pain. No more Lemon and honey. I believe she added 20 years to my career.

Irina is a gifted teacher who is dedicated to her art. And she is super cool. If you want results, give her a call

I don't write a lot of reviews but I am so happy with the results of my daughters lessons with Irina that I want to share this. I have a 14 yr old daughter who's dream is to be on Broadway. She loves singing but her passion is much bigger than her voice. I believe passion is something that should be nurtured so I have spent thousands of dollars on voice lessons over the past 3 years with other teachers.

Emily worked hard. After about a year and a half of lessons, though, she seemed to plateau. She still practiced all the time and loved it but eventually started to get frustrated. Finally she was passed over for any main singing roles in her school play, and it was the last straw for her. She came home and said she was giving up singing. And she was serious. This broke my heart. Not because I want her to be a famous singer, but because I know how much she really does love singing and her spirit was broken.

Shortly thereafter I was speaking to a friend at work about our kids and he recommended I have Emily take a trial lesson with his daughters teacher, Irina. I made the call and I am so happy I did!

First of all Irina comes with "cred". she is cool and hip and pretty as well as Being an accomplished artist. Emily loved her instantly. She has the patience of a saint and has the same passion for singing that I see in Emily.

While studying with Irina, My daughter has become very knowledgeable about the intricacies of this technique called "Bel canto". She does drills every day and not just singing drills. I see her laying on the floor practicing breathing and she describes in detail the science behind singing with this bel canto technique. She is full of passion again and it's awesome.

It's been about 9 months now since Emily started lessons with Irina and the results have been nothing short of amazing. I can clearly hear a dramatic difference in Emily's voice and more important, in her confidence and happiness. Thank you Irina! (Voice whisperer!)

Alexander V.

Tenafly, NJ

About Alexander

Both teaching and performing have always been a large part of my life. Even as early as high school (Kiev State R.M.Gliere Higher College of music), I was already conducting private lessons and directing the wind ensemble. And it was at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia, that I received my Masters Degree in Music Education, Performance and Conducting. During the period from 1977-89, I held the position of principal Clarinet in the St. Petersburg Symphony and Kiev State Opera orchestras. At the same time, I worked as a professor at the Kiev State Music Academy. When I immigrated to the US in 1989, I pursued various performance opportunities and was even offered a position in “The President’s Own” military band in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, due to extenuating ...

I have had plenty of lessons with Vengerov and he can make a young musician 100x better. He fixed a lot of the problems in regards to my bad habits on clarinet. After each lesson, I felt motivation and progress as a musician. My family, and I saw major improvement after taking lessons with Vengerov as well, and I have listened to multiple of his other students play and was always impressed at how amazing they sounded. He is a big help in my high school Wind Ensemble too.
Vengerov is helpful, professional, and is absolutely 1st rate.

Mr. Vengerov is the epitome of a great teacher. When I first came to him, my skills were lacking in just all about major aspects- tone, finger/hand placement, breathing technique, music theory, etc.. After the first lesson, he had accurately identified everything that I needed to improve upon and started with the fundamentals to build a strong base; all the while keeping the ultimate goal of becoming a better player individually, and in an ensemble, in mind. At the end of each lesson I feel as if a significant amount of progress has been made and I know exactly what to work on and how to work on it. Mr. Vengerov is an extremely patient, knowledgeable, and passionate teacher that you can always count on to be reliable and accommodating. I highly recommend taking lessons with him to anyone who has an interest in advancing their skills, because nothing is better than a teacher that truly loves what they do.
