About Ilona
I am experienced (3 years) in home school tutoring. I mostly work with Florida Virtual School students. I overlook their tests and assignments, and help them with preparations for Discussion Based Assessmemts (DBA). I also help parents with required annual evaluations and how to sign up with home education department.
For my tutoring sessions I use skills that include goal-directedness, I teach how to organize learning in small steps and how to set them up; I always strive to motivate and engage my students to make them interested in learning and have fun; I also use self-control skills to teach how to avoid distractions and I show how to use different focusing strategies. I use positive mind set skills to teach how to use failures as learning opportunities.

I have Masters in Education (2018) with specialization in English, Curricul
um and Education; and Masters in Arts (2012) in Teaching English to speakers of other languages, and Bachelors in Music Education (2010), both from Florida Atlantic University, as well as a degree in violin performance from Chicago.
I studied piano in Chicago for 10 years & taught both piano & violin for over 20 years. I also teach flute & cello for the past 5 years, as I studied them during my Music Education program.
I have taught music for over 24 years using the traditional and Suzuki methods. I am fan of the Essential Elements method and I Can Read Music book for string instruments, and the Alfred's Piano Library for piano. Alfred's piano library can be used for any age as they also have books especially made for adult learners. I also like their music flash cards.
For teaching music theory I mostly used Fundamentals of Piano Theory (9 levels) combined with Master Theory (6 levels) books.

I personalize every lesson, and always set goals for my students. Most of my violin students are members of the Florida Youth Orchestra as well as the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and my piano students participate in Pompano Beach Piano competition and the annual Piano Guild auditions.
I teach any age and any level, and always stress that learning a new instrument is very similar to learning a new language, it needs a lot of patience, persistence and repetitions. My lessons are customized to my students needs, and are work in progress as they needs may change over time. I always remind my students that music can give them instant gratification when they learn to play favorite songs.
I always encourage my students to tell me about their music preferences, so I can incorporate them in their music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
All my tutoring sessions include reviews of previously learned material and if possible the use of technology. I use students books but often bring extra study materials if necessary.
All my lessons include technique and reading music. I like to use the Finger Power for piano students and Essential Elements for my string students, and scales for both.
Music theory: I use Master Theory and Fundamentals of Piano Theory books for younger ages, Alfred's music flash cards to support learning notes and musical terminology, and of course the fun part performance.

Besides Essential Elements for strings I also use String Tunes and I Can Read Music to add more fun to the lessons as well as support reading music during the lesson. For piano students I use Holiday Treats book, which comes in 2 different levels: Beginner & Intermediate, so my students have a new songs for a specific holiday.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I always bring violin with me to be able to show what I teach.

*** Travel Equipment ***
The students need to have their books and assigned material ready for tutoring. Instrumental students needs to have their music books, flashcards & instrument available as well as a pencil. I always stress with my students to be organized and prepared for their lesson, this way they will be able to focus better during the lesson. I always bring my violin with me. I also ask that the room where the lesson takes place be free of any distractions, such other siblings or any other noise. The quiet environment helps in faster learning.

*** Specialties ***
I tutor most K-12 subjects and prepare students to take ACT, SAT, GRE tests.
Music genres: Classical, traditional, Suzuki, Popular, Celtic, fiddle, Blues

I'm sorry, I cannot handle this Instructor for my children. She wasn't me but she's not quite the people person I expected. Her personality is not a good match for a high school tutor. Unfortunately her English is not good enough. Her accent is entirely too strong. Also she does not know enough Geometry to help my kids.

Allen was an amazing Piano teacher. Its been over a year since I have taken lessons with him but the knowledge, technique, and material he taught me I still take with me to this day. Anyone can simply memorize how to play a song but he teaches you the intuition you need to truly play Piano. Music is not something that was easy for me to get, but I can personally say after taking lessons with him I understand Piano and what music really is a lot more than what I did before. He has his recommended way of learning and curriculum, but he really does align his teaching process based on the way the student learns. He is very patient. Sometimes it would take a while for me to catch on to something, but he was always very patient and encouraging which was very helpful for me overcoming challenges. Overall, a great teacher that really understands his students.

About Steve
Music has been a part of my life for over 4 decades. I stepped onstage when I was 15, and have been active in the music business ever since. I was raised in the New York / New England area, and played in many bands in the 70's and 80's, most notably the band AVALON. I moved to Florida in the late 80's and began to develop a one man show, using the emerging technology available. I called the show YIN YANG, the infinite possibility of Music. I chose the name, as it is the Oriental symbol for balance, and used it to represent the balance between the electric and acoustic, and the technology of today with the classic music from yesterday. Midi guitar and guitar synthesis became my trademarks as I pushed the boundaries of how I could express myself on the guitar. Being able to play sax, flute, strings, pianos, even percussion on the guitar to
ok my imagination to new places and enabled me to express myself in ways I didn't know were possible. I grew up influenced by the classic rock guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Alvin Lee, Duane Allman, and used their techniques to springboard me into developing my style. I am also influenced by some of the great guitarists of today, such as Satriani, Vai, Bonamassa, etc. I am fluent in electric and acoustic guitar, slide guitar, open tunings, modal playing, and guitar synthesis. I also can play and teach mandolin, ukulele, banjo, bass, and also harmonica and folk harp. I am working on the bagpipes now. I also give lessons on music technology, audio recording, and music software such as Sonar, Reason, and Finale, to name a few. Music is the passion that feeds my soul, and a decade ago I started teaching, to have a chance to give back to the next generation and share what I have learned along the way. I love bringing out the soul of each new student I meet.

*** Lesson Details ***
When I take on a new student, the first thing I do is to sit down and talk to them and find out a bit about them... their personality, what their influences in music are, what artists they like, and what they are looking to be able to accomplish on the instrument. Each student is an individual, so depending on what they like, I will frame my lessons around the styles and artists that they like, and will incorporate the fundamentals and the exercises around the music that they enjoy. I will use the artists and the songs that excite my students to frame the lessons that we work on. I use music software to create custom grooves for each of my students to practice to, and also sometimes use a video cam to film my student working on a particular lesson that they are having trouble with, so that when they go home, they have an example of themselves playing the lesson, so they can study it at home to get it right. I am a firm believer in learning all the rules. I am also a firm believer, when you know the rules, to break them all. You have to know the rules to be able to break them. I will provide you with everything you need to shine on your instrument. My teaching technique is something that I developed myself, is quite unique, and, if you follow my program, you will progress REALLY fast. But keep in mind, anything good is worth working for, and if you REALLY want this, you will grow in leaps and bounds. Most of my students have been with me on an average of 4 to 5 years, some 9 or 10 years. I look forward to meeting you and helping you make magic with music! Ciao!

This enables me to create musical templates tailored for each student according to their musical interests, what they would like to focus on, and what their ultimate goals are. For example ...lead guitar, rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar accompaniment to their voice, etc. which ends up making for an exciting experience as my student learns their instrument framed around the styles of music that they enjoy.

I could not have found a better instructor- worth every penny. I was worried about committing to 5 lessons on this site without meeting the teacher, but after meeting Steve I knew I found the right teacher. He takes the time to explain everything in detail and is patient while you learn. Never at any point did I feel like I made a "mistake" or I was doing something wrong- he gently just tells you where you need to get eventually. Will go as far into detail as you want to go. Very talented player- he just gets "it".

My son has been taking lessons from Mr. Gallo for this entire school year. He started out not even knowing how to hold the horn or buzz on the mouthpiece. Mr. Gallo has been instrumental in teaching him this year. Yes, my son was in band, but he really needed the extra instruction to be successful with such a hard instrument. What I appreciate about Mr. Gallo's teaching style is he is very encouraging and he is very clear about establishing a good foundation for playing the horn. He knows the proper techniques to strengthen the embouchure and the musical exercises needed to succeed. He has been a very reliable teacher and he was always willing to help my son with anything needed, such as helping him prepare for his solo competition. Overall, I am very impressed with how much my son has learned this year with Mr. Gallo's instruction and he went on to get the highest possible score in his solo competition and more importantly he really enjoys playing the french horn.

My 7/8 year old REALLY wanted to try trombone, a difficult instrument for anyone but especially a young kid. Pasquale agreed to take him on without judgment or preconceptions. Ultimately it was a little too difficult but he completely understood that a kid should still be allowed to experiment. His teaching style was the perfect balance of stern and jovial and my typical silly kid respected him. When the time came to end lessons, my kid is not dissuaded and is looking forward to trying new instruments. Pasquale was very understanding and let me and my kid know that if the passion for trombone returns he is still his teacher. Thanks Pasquale!

My son, Evan had one of the best music lesson experiences he ever could have had after years of lessons with just a few lessons with Mr. G! The level of expertise and instruction that can be delivered to your child in one lesson is truly second to none. Your child will see instant improvements in the quality of their performances if the skills and instruction Mr. G demonstrates and converses to your child is implemented. In just 4 lessons, my son went from an average trombone player to well enough to go on to a difficult state competition. He could not have achieved that success without the careful and guided instruction of Mr. G. He truly is an outstanding instructor and is worth is weight in gold!

Lana was my instructor for 6 months before I moved from Florida. There's nothing more I can add that other reviews haven't mentioned - Lana is simply the best.

I didn't know what to expect from my first piano lesson as an adult learner, but Lana took the time to gauge my limited experience and designed a lesson plan based on what I needed to focus on and what I wanted to learn. More importantly, she continued to challenge me and did not let me get bored with the lessons.

I wish I could have taken Lana to NY with me!
