Hands on instruction on manual camera settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc.). Framing the subject from different angles. And most importantly, how to see light the way your camera sees it.

About Joy

I am a graduate of UC San Diego (bachelor of arts, sociology) and UCLA (master of public policy). As a child of immigrant parents, I value diversity and love learning languages. I read, write and speak Spanish fluently, and have intermediate command of both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese in reading, writing, and speech.

Photography has been one of my main areas of focus for over ten years. I am trained in both film and digital formats and specialize in demystifying the DSLR so that you gain a good understanding of manual settings and how to use each to improve your photos.

Caring, compassion, and understanding are essential for learning and I strive to do my best in these areas.

I have been using my Canon DSLR camera for 4 years now, primarily focusing on shooting architecture and landscapes. I can teach the basics of how to frame a shot using simple rules such as the rule of thirds, and more technical terms such as shutter speed and aperture settings to create proper lighting settings and depth of field.

About Steven

I'm a recent graduate of the Boston Architectural College, and employed by a large architectural firm in Boston. I am currently teaching a Rhino 3-D course at the BAC I tutor in all aspects of architecture including portfolio design, writing, software tutoring, design critiquing, and overall academic guidance. For software, I specialize in the Adobe Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, Rhinoceros, and V-Ray. I've tutored students of all differing ages and skill sets, ranging from novice to advanced user. Further, I have numerous references and reviews about my services that I would be happy to pass along, as well as past design work that I have done both academically and professionally. Lastly, I have numerous resources students can use after tutoring sessions are complete such as reference manuals, tutorials, and websites to visit for additional learn

Want to know how to operate your camera and take great photos? I have been a photographer for nearly fifteen years creating mostly landscapes, macro, night and architecture. I've had photos shows and been in the Mass. College of Art annual auction for 8 years selling every year.

I have had several gallery shows and have sold work in the Massachusetts College of Art Auction numerous times.

About Stephen

I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in Piano and Film Scoring.
I love many styles which include, Film scores, Pop, New age, Rock, improv, Classical and some Jazz.
I teach basic to intermediate. (Scales, finger exercises, chords, arpeggios, theory, simple songs, posture and breathing, etc.)

Last year, I taught an eight year old girl and three boys. I currently worked at Piano Playtime where I teach twelve Kindergarten to 4th grade group piano lessons. I am fun, easy to get along with, and very patient with kids and adults.

In the past, I scored a local film titled "The Times Were Never So Bad: The Life of Andre Dubus" who's son Andre Dubus III wrote the story "The House of Sand and Fog." In 2003 the novel was adapted into a film starring Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly. The film won first place

at the Providence Film Fest in 2007. I also composed a jingle for the online college Capella University.

I have a car and can come to your location or you can come to me depending on distance. I look forward in sharing this musical journey with you!

Steve is an excellent teacher! I always look forward to my classes. I am a student in high school, and he fully understands my need to balance my school work with piano, and he makes sure that I am able to comfortably commit to both aspects of my life. Steve makes sure that I stay on task and that I am progressing with my piano skills all while making the lessons fun and enjoyable.

Photography has been a lifelong passion for me. As my journey continues, I enjoy working with students and clients on making great images and helping them to achieve their artistic vision. I love to share the tips and tricks that I have learned along the way as both a professional photographer, but also as a teacher and as a student of light.

Experienced photographer that has worked professionally in many areas including travel, fine-art, news, and sports action. I have extensive darkroom experience in both B&W and color and have transitioned those skills to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop in the digital post-processing world. Many of my images have been printed in various publications, on many websites, and in art gallery exhibits. I teach beginner to advanced students on how to take and process great images in private tutor sessions, group lessons, and on workshop field trips. I also custom print images, and scan and retouch/restore old photographs and negatives.

About Nick

My name is Nick and I am a freelance photographer located in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts. I am new to the TakeLessons platform but have many years of experience as a photographer and photography teacher.

I specialize in travel, fine art and sports action photography. I am a life-long photographer having worked for a weekly newspaper, a motorcycle racing magazine, as a wedding and event photographer, and as a sports photographer. Over the last 15 years I have photographed local town events, Middle and High School sports, college football, fund-raising events for non-profit organizations, motorcycle racing, bicycle racing, running road races, Rock ‘n Roll bands, and high school senior portraits. I am now focusing most of my time traveling around the world and making and exhibiting my photographs of the local landscapes and people. Many o

f my images have been published in newspapers, on various websites, and exhibited in many art galleries.

I enjoy teaching students how to "make" photographs, drawing from the skills and techniques that I have learned from my real-world experiences as a photographer. My students learn how to use their camera as an expression of their artistic vision. They will learn all aspects of workflow including research and preparation, camera settings, composition, post-processing, printing, and framing. The goal is for each student to create images that they would be proud to exhibit or display on their wall at home.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced photographer, please contact me for further information, to discuss your goals and objectives for making pictures, or to schedule a session. I offer both in person and remote lessons. Thank you.

Nick was awesome. Helped me choose the proper camera settings to optimize conditions and maximize the quality of the image. Educated me on controlling settings for various light conditions and depth of field. Very helpful and well worth the drive. I will definitely call on him again to fine tune what I've learned once I have a chance to practice.

It was a real pleasure to do a Month long bachata classes with Kimmy. It was a worthwhile time investment. Kimmy is very passionate about dancing and teaching. I am grateful for the new dance skills and confidence she helped me gain!

I'm not naturally coordinated in dancing much less for paired dancing, for that reason I was apprehensive and anxious about bachata dance lessons with kimmy. At the end of the first lesson I left feeling having learnt new moves and confident about using them. Kimmy is skilled and knowledgeable about teaching dance because the pace is not rushed, she provides appropriate cues and thoughtful commendations!

I highly recommend Kimmy! She is a great teacher; she was patient, understanding, and comes prepared. I completed my first dance sessions with Kimmy and came out with a better understanding of how to dance. She instills confidence with her teaching and cares that her student gets the most out of every class.

I will listen to what your needs are and cater to that. My experience in digital photography goes back to 2001. I know how complex the world of photography can be but I will seek to leave my ego behind because I too had to learn from others and frequently in a classroom setting the instructor unfortunately can't help the individual.

About Trudy

I have been taking digital photos since 2001 but started when I first fell in love with
Photoshop. My favorite subject matter is nature but the principles of taking a decent photo will be similar for any subject matter.

I photograph large events and headshots and believe in the importance of a first impression. I learned posing techniques from working for a large national company but apply some of these principles even at events.

While I now shoot with my cell phone too, I am well versed on how to operate a professional camera (Canon) and this is what I will be teaching you.

Kelly
"My family purchased photography lessons with Julie for me as a birthday present and I had a fantastic experience. Since I am mostly interested in bird an
d wildlife photography, Julie was kind enough to meet me at a local birding "hotspot" in Irvine and in an hour my skills improved tremendously with her assistance. No more over/underexposed shots, MUCH better detail in my photos and I learned to read and utilize a histogram properly. Highly, highly recommend.

Note: This site does not have an option for "outside location" so I was forced to select "Teacher's Location", but Julie was willing to meet me at a location I proposed."
