Debbie "Debra" T. Houston, TX

About Debbie (Debra)

Having been a public school teacher, as well as a private and group piano instructor, I've observed how differently students "digest" information, and piano lessons are a great way to make use of different learning styles. I emphasize knowing HOW to practice before you leave so you'll be successful at home, and you are welcome to contact me with problems during the week so you don't lose a week in progressing with your lessons. I've had students send a video of a tricky section to ask for alternative fingering, and photos to clarify how they are reading something!! I also perform with an orchestra and want to feel proficient among my peers, so I really know how it feels to make a mistake in front of everyone. I am here to help you feel proud of your progress. My primary teaching ...

Debbie T., my piano teacher

I am a senior who decided to learn the piano. This is something I have wanted to do all my life. I began with a private teacher and studied with him for 6 months. Although he was a very good instructor something was missing. I searched the internet and found TakeLessons.com and found Debra's profile. I have been studying under Debbie for one year as of January, 2014. She is the absolute BEST! I have only praise for her. She is patient, kind, funny, very very knowledgable, She is professional, energetic, and flexible. I just can't say enough good things about her. I see our relationship lasting for many years to come! I just love her!

What an enjoyable teacher!

Both of my boys find her lessons to be fun. She is full of knowledge and experience. They have learned so much from Ms. Tibbetts in a few months. We look forward to working with her for a long while.

Best piano teacher I have ever had!

I started taking lesson this year and I love it! This is my third time trying different places and teachers, I am very picky and have high expectations. I find Debbie's knowledge about music and piano amazing! She is the most patient teacher I have ever had, I have a hectic schedule and no matter how often I have to change lessons or come unprepared she always is understanding and encouraging. And her personality is just so warming, she is full of praise even at times when I know I don't deserve it, yet she strives to push you forward, if one way doesn't work for you she will find a way that you are comfortable with so you continue to progress. She knows just about EVERYTHING there is to know about reading and playing music, even the Italian versions. I love the personal feel of being at her home studio, and would recommend her to friends and family, I look forward to many more lessons in the future !

This is the approach I offer to students. I focus on teaching independence through music theory and sight reading. Performance is an important part of learning so I provide two recitals every year- one for Christmas and another in the spring, at the end of the school year. *** Studio Equipment *** Separate room dedicated to teaching with upright piano, also has digital ...

Carter N. Katy, TX

About Carter

I've loved music since I was able to walk. When I was 5 or 6, I would listen to my mother's stereo system, with Jim Croce playing on the 8-Track tape deck.....(ok, so I'm aging myself a little bit). I would lay on the floor in between the speakers which were turned inward toward my ears. I could lay there for hours, tapping my toes to "Bad Bad Leroy Brown", "Roller Derby Queen", "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", and many others. I would also listen to the Beatles, Seargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", and "Revolution" and be completely taken away. I didn't realize it then, but what captivated me were the songs that were written to tell stories, and the music that brought the stories to life. As I grew into my early teens, I got into Kiss, Alice Cooper, Rush, Ted Nugent, and Jimi ...

My son started lessons when he was 8 on acoustic guitar. I randomly chose a teacher and was hoping for a teacher who could be patient yet firm and be able to inspire my son. Mr Carter is the best teacher I could have asked for - he is all that and more. Quite often, I listen to the teacher and student conversation with admiration as they are discussing ideas and Mr. Carter's openness to receiving ideas on a tune or what Ashwin wants to learn. The frank and open discussion results in motivating the young student as they feel a sense of importance and builds confidence (sometimes too much!). At the same time, when the situation calls for it, Mr. Carter is firm and points out when Ashwin hasn't practiced or not done well and that pushes him to do better. I look forward to many years ahead.

Jeremiah L. Houston, TX

About Jeremiah

As a Musicians Institute graduate, I've learned from exceptional drummers in the Los Angeles music industry. I gained and learned many tricks of the trade and can offer the same quality education to anyone. As a student myself, I realized that having great sound, solid timing and grove are just as essential as having cool beats to play. There are more technicalities to drumming than being able to play fast or having the best chops. Aside from learning how to play drums, knowing how to think about music, how to listen to music, and how to study music will give a great foundation to any student of any style. I first like to determine the students ability and understanding by working on a few coordination exercises and reading exercises. From a good foundation, I build a curriculum,

Technique is paramount when learning to play drums, if you don't have a good, solid technique, your just another sloppy drummer. Enter Jeremiah, an instructor with an excellent ear, picking up quickly on what it is I'm doing wrong, establishing a path to quick correction and selecting a technique right for my style of play. 3 lessons in and my playing is dramatically different, much cleaner and solid on the grooves. This guy has pushed my creativity to a new level and my confidence in live play stacks up to the crowd

I have two boys (6 and 10) taking regular lessons with Lydia for over two months now and I am very happy with her ability, patience and direction. Neither had taken piano lesson before, and she does a great job with them. They have learned so much in a short amount of time. Her students have a recital at the end of the school year, so they can show their abilities to friends and families. I highly recommend Lydia Long for piano lessons in Cypress/Fairfield area.
