About Allen
Hello! My name is Allen and I've been playing guitar for 16 years, and teaching for the past 10. I've been performing and writing since the age of 16 with bands in many styles. I'm originally from Santa Maria, CA, and I obtained my knowledge of music theory, performance, and songwriting skills from taking private lessons in the central coast at a place called Coelho's Academy of Music. Our head instructor, Jerry Coelho, was a student of the late Howard Roberts and was one of the first graduating students to who helped to establish Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), currently known as The Mu
sicians Institute. After dedicating 4 years of private lessons under Jerry and his other top instructors, my hard work payed off and I was given the opportunity take students of my own. For the following two years, I've managed to consistently teach 40 students per week. I decided to move forward and take my musical experience with me to San Diego, where I currently teach, write, record, and perform my music with others who have similar goals and aspirations. I love playing in as many bands as possible. The main one I play in is called Quel Bordel. Some of the bands I've played in have given me the opportunity to perform with local and big named artists such as D.J. Artistic, Gary Wilson of Stones Throw Records, The Aristocrats, Terry Bozzio, Alan Holdsworth, and Tony Levin. As a full time musician and performer, I'm typically out gigging anywhere from 2-5 a week. As a teacher, I'm here to help you with where you want to be with guitar. Whether it's rock, pop, funk, hip hop, reggae, jazz, blues, indie, folk, and country, I can help you with the technical and theoretical side of things.

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal- To get you to become better than me. I find myself as an easy going teacher, and can provide that push when I see students getting more engaged in their lessons. I typically teach out of two main books, and it's optional for students to have their own copy of my recommended method books. I emphasize heavy chord vocabulary and steady rhythm. I believe that in order to be a good lead player, you would have to be a great rhythm player. As we develop technique, you can expect me to incorporate theory as to maintain an even share of the HOW's and WHY's. Moreover, expect to DO something with our lessons. Repetition is the mother of learning, and sometimes it comes down to the idea of 'monkey see, monkey do' before we can have in depth conversations about the application of your lessons in real situations. To me, music is very creative. So I'm a big believer on improvisation with both chords and scales. I believe in practical application when learning the songs you want to learn. So every student will have a unique way of learning the fundamentals only necessary to their personal goals.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two small practice amps, cables, method books (personal copies), extra picks, extra guitar, music stand, blank sheet music/tabs for notes, extra strings, music stand, metronome, tuner

*** Travel Equipment ***
Music stand, extra guitar (if needed), blank staff/tab paper, tuner, metronome, battery powered amp, cables, extra strings (if needed), picks

*** Specialties ***
I primarily use Hal Leonard method books for beginners when it comes to reading and basic technique. For those who want to learn at the intermediate/advance level, I use the book called Jazz and Pop Guitar (chords and progressions) and Scales and Modes in the Beginning which can cover all aspects of chord theory and improvisation. I model my curriculum off of my prior lesson plans from my teachers ( based off of Berklee and GIT) My genres specialize in rock, funk, jazz, indie rock, folk, country, blues, pop

I have already taken few sessions with him and see quite a bit of improvement, and I always look forward to my next class. I recommend Allen to everyone who feels the passion for learning the guitar at any level.

About Marta
I'm an easy going, very experienced, highly qualified teacher with a Doctoral degree in Music Performance. I recently returned from living and performing in Japan for a year, ready to resume teaching again. I've been teaching privately and in group classes for over 20 years, both traditional and Suzuki methods. I have over 25 years of performance experience in classical music. I'm also very active in the non-classical scene I've performed with celebrities like Rihanna, Steve Wonder, Trisha Yearwood and local artists, from modern flamenco to jazz, pop, rock. I'm a recording artist and speciali
ze in improvisation and creative collaborations.

The philosophy is to guide students' musical and educational growth through well rounded and personally tailored instruction that emphasizes practicing strategies in technical facility, musicality, history, theory and music appreciation. My students enjoy discovering and strengthening their talents through my encouragement-oriented and patient guidance. I accept students of any level, starting from age 5 to adults. My students have won auditions to youth orchestras and colleges and some are now professional musician themselves. Whether you are learning for pleasure or for life goals, my studio is open to all.

I've been taking lessons with Marta for a few months now, as an adult, and am really enjoying it. Marta is clearly an incredibly talented and engaging musician who is able to translate her experience for folks, like me, who might be new to an instrument or music in general. She is skilled in music theory and technique and really focuses on ensuring her students have the foundational skills necessary to build on as they progress. I'd highly recommend her - she makes the hard work of learning a new instrument (or expanding your existing practice) incredibly fun and rewarding.

About Steven
Steven B, Instructor
PIANO - GUITAR - VOICE
For over 25 years, Steven B has been successfully teaching hundreds of students on piano, guitar, and voice. He has over 60,000 hours experience as a teacher, musician, and performer. He teaches all styles, ages and skill levels. Beginners are most certainly welcome. The lessons are in the convenience of your home online throughout the United States or in the Coronado Music Studio. Whatever your level, be prepared to learn and have fun!

In addition, he tailors the lessons to fit your goals and desires for your instrument, whether it be piano, gu
itar, and or voice! (Many of his students take lessons on two instruments, for example Guitar & Voice or Piano & Voice.) You may be wanting to learn your instrument from the beginning, and then finding out your passion for a certain genre of music, or possibly learning and playing songs you love. In another example, you may have been playing for a period of time and possibly you desire to heighten your game, learning new skills and technique regarding your instrument. Or quite possibly, you want to blend the joy of singing while playing the piano or the guitar! It's time to go through the joy and benefits in playing a musical instrument and or singing!

PERFORMANCE
Steven B has extensive experience in performance. For many years, he performed piano and sang at many fine establishments throughout San Diego and Los Angeles. Later on, he produced a concert tour and performed 50 concerts to 15,000 young people throughout San Diego. The title of his concert tour is Heroes In Our World. Steven B played keyboards, guitar and sang. The concerts honored real-life moms, dads, doctors, nurses, teachers, athletes, entertainers who give back to charity, police officers, firemen, and explorers who make our world a better place. His list of performances continues. He has a record of being the only musician to write a song, produce it, playing the instruments and vocals, along with filming and editing the videos of the performances each week for 52 consecutive weeks. His students benefit because he teaches many aspects in performance and can prepare students for any kind of audition or performance.

In conclusion, whether you want to learn to play an instrument and/or sing just for your own benefit and joy... Or you want to perform... Or you want to be professional earning money with music - you have come to the correct place. He will be looking forward in working with you. Again, he teaches all styles, ages and skill levels. Beginners are most welcome. He currently has one or two openings for new students.

Reviews From Students and Parents (Piano - Guitar - Voice)

“I just wanted to say Thank You and let you know how much I appreciate all the information and help you have given Mikey. You helped him form a great hobby that he loves to do and the family loves to hear. He has come so far since his first lesson and I am happy you kept the Piano lessons interesting for him. Thanks again for being a kind, great teacher to him.” - Cheryl, 5 Stars!

“Steven B, a patient, gifted teacher has supervised my studies on guitar with good humor, wit and flexibility.  I would recommend him without hesitation to players young and old.” - Tim, 5 Stars!

“I took voice and piano lessons in Steven B’s Coronado Music Studio and also online via Skype.  Both experiences were great, and it was really convenient to do the lessons on Skype.  Steven B is an excellent teacher, and he is very patient.  I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to play an instrument or sing!” - Kat , 5 Stars!

“Steven B’s fun and patient teaching style rocks. I see how his bright, fun-loving personality, and knowledge of music for piano makes him top choice as my daughter’s music instructor.” - Anthony, 5 Stars!

“Steven B is a wonderful teacher!  He is talented, always enthusiastic, and extremely motivational! Each lesson is designed specifically for our daughter Kelsey's ability and desired genre of music! Kelsey began guitar and vocal lessons in the Coronado studio and is now taking lessons via Skype since our move to Virginia.  The lessons are convenient, affordable, and productive. We are excited to be able to still have Steven B as her guitar and vocal teacher!” - Amy, 5 Stars!

“I came to Steven B as a beginner in piano and I took the piano lessons on my Casio keyboard. I just wanted to learn my favorite songs. Steven B got me into the music I really enjoy!  In only three months, I was able to play and sing a song I truly love titled “Angel” from Sarah McLachian.  My teacher said I performed it as well as the artist. My friends, loved my performance of the song!” - Katrina, 5 Stars!

“My son has taken guitar and voice lessons with Steven B for the last year.  We are pleased with classes and the improvement we've seen in comparison to a previous instructor.  Steven B is punctual and extremely respectful of the time and money it takes to provide lessons.  He can be counted on to be both friendly and professional.  He comes prepared for lessons and expects the same of his students.  If you are serious about learning and improving your skills, we highly recommend him.” - Christina, 5 Stars!

“My time in being instructed by Steven B on piano was a great, informative experience. Ever since the first lesson, he is a very good teacher that clearly knows what he is doing. Mr. Bruce taught me at my own pace, taking time to help me work on skills, especially small details that help me perform much better. He is a very skilled instructor, teaching me pieces from not only music books that he provides, but also the valuable skill of learning by ear, a skill few other teachers bother to touch on. Steven B has helped on a number of occasions with songs that I am learning on my own and fit time into our lessons to work on them. He is always willing to let the student work on what they like as well as what he gives out. When I once mentioned my liking for jazz, we soon started an in-depth series of lessons into the genre, teaching me much more than I ever knew prior to it. I’ve never felt pressured by my assignments and pieces to bring home, as Steven B knows everyone goes at their own pace and can take anytime from a few days to a few weeks to learn a song. My time with him was a very fun and informative time that I thoroughly enjoyed.” - Michael, 5 Stars!

About Alethia
Growing up I was raised in a home full of music. My father, a graduate of the Conservatorio Nacional Superior de Musica (National conservatory of Superior Music) played piano day and night and from there my love for music blossomed. My first experience with music was at the age of 8 when I began to take piano lessons from my father. I decided to switch to violin when I was 12. I was introduced to violin thanks to the Waldorf School of San Diego and have played in the orchestra throughout all of middle school. After 8th grade I was accepted into Young Artist Symphony and played with them until
2011. My education in orchestras continued with USD Chamber Orchestra, and Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. I began to teach at the Waldorf School as an assistant orchestra teacher in 2011, and have since been teaching privately as well.

My goals when teaching is to teach the appropriate techniques in order to play violin successfully and to hopefully inspire love and appreciation for music. In my experience I have learned that every student has a different way of learning therefore it is important to adjust to every student's needs. Learning should be fun but it should also be disciplined, it is important to understand that there is a time for fun and a time to be serious when learning.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me!

Sally teaches my two kids that live with autism. They're moderate/severe, so we really didn't expect how the lessons would go due their many challenges. Sally quickly built a relationship with trust with them by her gentle approach and confidence in their abilities to learn. On her second day my son was hamming the song and was able to identify one note she requested on his own! Although Sally teaches all kinds of kids is our experience that she's a wonderful therapist as she is so educated about neurological symptoms such as autism. She has the right approach and my kids love her! They hug her and they follow her directions. She senses and understands also their sensory issues and gives them breaks thus allowing them to self regulate without tears of meltdowns. She's the best teacher we ever!
