About Jordan
I am a professional singer and actor with over 10 years of performance experience and private vocal/acting coaching. I studied acting at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and have performed nationally in regional theater, for cruise lines, and several theaters in my current residence of San Diego such as the Lyric Opera San Diego, Old Globe, Lamb's Players Theater and Cygnet Theater. I have taught students from ages 7-adults, and my focus is always the dramatic and emotional aspects of the piece and how to use technique to release that emotion in a healthy and exciting way.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is passionate and encouraging. I have taken lessons from many teachers and have found what is useful and what only confuses a student. As such, my approach to singing is very simplistic, and often wh
at I will talk about in the first lesson will be discussed during every lesson. Lessons will usually be divided into 1/2 vocal mechanics and 1/2 dramatic interpretation.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Music and acting texts, portable keyboard. Student need not provide anything.

*** Specialties ***
Broadway, voice/speech, classical theater, acting, stage combat

About Joan
I started piano lessons when I was about 6 years old. I graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson with a BA in Music Education. After moving to San Diego, I spent the next 20 years or so being a wife and mom and raising 3 kids, one of them a special needs child due to a drowning accident. I've been a church pianist and choir director for almost 30 years and worked at a charter school in Lakeside as a choir teacher and Music History class teacher. I started teaching piano about 10 years ago on the recommendation of a friend and fell in love with it! I have taught kids from the ages of 6 to 16, but would welcome adult students.
I enjoy and can teach many different musical styles on the piano. If you like classical, we can do classical. If you like pop or Broadway, we can do pop or Broadway. If you like contemporary Christi
an, we can do that. I'm a good sight reader and can help students who are interested learn how. I can also teach improvisation using chords with or without a melody line for students who'd like to learn. I encourage older students to bring in music they are interested in learning. The sky's the limit!

*** Lesson Details ***
I think lessons should be made fun for the student and should be personal time just for them to participate in an activity that they enjoy doing. Parents are always welcome during lessons. With beginners I stress learning to read the notes and other musical notation-dynamics markings, tempo instructions, rests, etc.. I like to use the Dozen A Day exercises as well and, depending on the proficiency level of the student, the Hanon series of exercises for flexibility. I like to use the Alfred Method lesson books for those just getting started. They have good pictures and easy to understand instructions for younger students. They also offer simple Theory instruction books as well. They also have some good adult instruction books. I also like to use a reward system with my students; younger kids can choose from a simple prize box and older ones can receive gift cards from McDonald's, Dairy Queen, etc.. Everyone needs a little reward in life! I like all students to keep a practice log (younger ones can be helped in this by parents) to help with accountability and to see how progress is being made. I also like to have a student recital at the end of the school year, usually in the month of May. The purpose is so that students can meet each other and see what others are working on. I've found that the students themselves are often the best encouragers and inspiration for each other!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ piano and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
Can teach classical, romantic and pop music genres. Can show how to improvise and play from chord sheets with no written music. Fast and efficient in sight-reading.

About Roberto
Hello and thanks for reading. I grew up in the musically-rich state of Texas, playing everything from ABBA to ZZ Top, and I began teaching in the San Diego area about 3 years ago. My teaching career had been diverse, including teaching Guitar classes at Adult Education and children at the Community Center, and classes to our Navy servicemen and servicewomen.

I hold an Associate of Music Studies Degree from San Diego Mesa College.

I have students as young as 8. so I build a solid musical foundation upon which they can grow. I emphasize music literacy, proper technique, and practice strategies to help them excel as musicians.

Many of my students are mainly busy adults, so with them I do not use conventional teaching techniques - I focus on getting them to play songs. Most of my Intermediate Students started with me as
beginners, picking up a guitar for the first time. With a vocabulary of just a few chords and rhythms, you can play hundreds of songs!

* Note to pet owners - I am allergic to cats, but don't mind making necessary arrangements.

Daniel is a fantastic voice teacher and coach. My style of choice is mostly rock/blues, as I've been playing guitar forever, but only this year began to sing. He has taught me the correct way, recommended teaching material, and now that I'm recording, is helping me find my own voice. I think he could help anybody in most any other style too. He's the best.

I'm 25 and had never learned singing in my life, but wanted to surprise my girlfriend (a singer herself) as part of a proposal. Mr. G was an extremely experienced, knowledgeable, and supportive teacher who carefully considered my strengths and weaknesses to deliver a personalized training plan. In a few months after being a total beginner, I was ready and the proposal was extremely successful. I cannot thank him enough for this wonderful gift, and I continued lessons since because I enjoyed his exceptional teaching. 10/10 would recommend.

Joe's knowledge of guitar is expert and spans a wide variety of genres. It's rare to find a guitarist who considers phrasing and dynamics while playing, but Joe does exactly this, breathing life into all his licks with mindful control over volume and articulation. I've learned a lot about Blues chord progressions, and I'm sure a guitarist of any genre will learn a lot from him. Highly recommended.

I am a professional low brass musician (euphonium, trombone, bass trombone). I enlisted in the US Navy in 2005 and since then I have performed all over the world in places like England, Germany, Morrocco, Ghana, Bermuda, Mexico, and across the US.

I have studied with Pete DuBeau (principle tubist, Virginia Symphony), Ross Whitlock (US Army, retired). Additional studies with Brian Bowman (University of North Texas), and Roger Behrend (George Mason University, and former principle euphonium, US Navy Band).

I believe that music should be enjoyed not only by the listener, but by the performer as well. I practice because I want to and not because I have to. In my opinion, as a teacher, there is nothing that brings a smile to my face quicker than to see a student finally play an excerpt or piece of music that has frustrated him or her fo
r a while. As a musician, nothing makes me happier than to hear a piece of music played the way it was intended.

I don't like to lose auditions, but my goal for you is that if I must lose, it should be to you. I feel that every teacher should want their students to surpass them, much like a parent wanting their child to be more successful.
