Jennifer G.

Spring, TX

About Jennifer

I have been teaching piano to students of all ages since 1992, both to individual students and groups. I taught with the Music Learning Center of Michigan. I have been a music teacher and choir director for a number of years as well. For eight years I have played the organ and piano for Church worship.

*** Lesson Details ***
Music should be appreciated and enjoyed. Lessons should be fun without sacrificing quality. This is the approach I offer to students. I focus on teaching independence through music theory and sight reading. Performance is an important part of learning so I provide two
recitals every year- one for Christmas and another in the spring, at the end of the school year.
My schedule only allows for weekly lessons. Requests for every other week cannot be accepted.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate room dedicated to teaching with upright piano.

Jennifer is a knowledgeable piano teacher. English is not my native language but the way she explains the music theory is very easy for me to understand. I'm very lucky to have her as my teacher.

The instructor was warm and welcoming. I felt I had her full attention and she corrected my errors and noted my strengths with equal grace.

Great piano teacher! She has been great for my shy little 7/8 year old (we've been with Jennifer for ~1 year now). I love that she is patient with my daughter! She is always positive and encouraging. My daughter has come a long ways! She just played beautifully at their Christmas recital!

I also appreciate that Jennifer is conscious of the distractions of a young child. She has a piano in a separate room with doors. If there is too much noise outside of the room, or outdoors, she will turn on a 'white noise' maker to help cancel out the distractions and keep her students focused!

Overall, it has been a great experience so far! No complaints! Yes, I'd recommend her!

Leni B.

Magnolia, TX

About Leni

BA in Music, composition and conducting from Hunter College (City University of New York)
Diploma from the Conservatoire de Fontainebleau, France
Studied with Louise Talma, Jacques Louis Monod, Nadia Boulanger

Lessons are about learning to make music, not endless scales and arpeggios which so often lead to pain and injury. Tone production, sight reading, and age appropriate theory and interpretation are strong elements from the beginning.

An overwhelming percentage of young, enthusiastic and talented children are discouraged early and give up the piano because they do not make rapid p
rogress and therefore do not enjoy their lessons. Music is one of life's great joys. It should be fun. For the intermediate, and even the advanced, student, it is critical that much more attention be paid to the musicality of the playing and the understanding of the music. This leads to more beautiful playing and greater enjoyment.

I really enjoyed my first lesson with Leni. He's very thorough and passionate about playing the piano. It's been years since I played, and he was very patient with me and explained things in detail.

I can honestly say that Leni is one of the most professional and intelligent music instructors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I have a background in music (low brass) from the 6th grade all the way through college. While I no longer play any brass instruments, I am currently taking drum lessons, and felt that now would also be the best time to try my hand (no pun intended) at piano. I am very happy with the lessons that Leni gave, however, I eventually came to the realization that the piano would be too much of a time constraint for me. I was not 100% committed to the piano due to working an 8-5 job every day, as well as taking the drum lessons I was already taking prior to starting piano. Also, it didn't help that I did not have a piano to practice with. With that being said, if I ever find myself with the time/capability to commit myself to the piano the way I wanted to, then I will be contacting Leni for more lessons. There are many piano teachers out there, but if you want to learn the CORRECT way so that you will not hurt your hands/fingers, then Leni is the absolute best choice. Thanks for everything Leni!

After being away from the piano for years, not to mention piano lessons, I learned a great deal in my first lesson with Leni. He teaches a fundamental technique new to me so I am looking forward to my next lesson.

Cameron K.

Houston, TX

About Cameron

As a violin and viola instructor, my goal is to give my students lessons that are as fun and productive as possible. I teach my students all the essential technical and musical principles which help them to play the violin expressively, prevent them from developing harmful habits and help them reach their full potential. I do not use an exact method or course, but rather teach each student according to his/her particular needs. I teach beginner through advanced level.

I have been privileged to study violin with some of the most respected violin teachers in the US. Many of my teachers were
graduates of Juliard and other top music schools where they studied with some of the most famous violin teachers of the 20th century including Ivan Galamian and Josef Gingold. I have also studied with Texas String Teacher of the Year winner Henry Rubin.

I teach violin from my house in north Houston and I can travel to your home as well (prices vary depending on location). I teach beginner through advanced. If you are interested you may call or text me.

BIO

Cameron began playing the violin at eight years old when his parents bought him a violin and started taking him to a local teacher. He immediately showed an unusual giftedness for the instrument, and progressed rapidly. By the age of nine he was accepted by audition to the Austin Youth Synphony, ranking at highschool level. At fifteen he won an adution to attend the prestigous Interlochen Center for the arts summer program in Michigan where he studied under some of the top violin instructors in the US. At eighteen he made Texas All State ranking #1 in regionals. During his highschool years he was pivileged to take lessons with the acclaimed violinist, Henry Rubin as his pimary teacher. He is now active as a freelance violinist and teacher in the greater Houston area preforming for dozens of events every year and continues working toward his gole of becoming a full-time concert violinist.

My son was very comfortable with Mr. Tomas. My son is very young, but Mr. Tomas gave him a shot. I appreciate his patience and willingness to be flexible with my sons 3-year old personality. I also learned a lot to practice with my son. Thank you Mr. Tomas!

I was self taught for @ 5 months then decided to get lessons. I wanted a pro to be able to assess where I was at and give me the right instruction.

Tomas was able to to give me just that. He also taught me some neat strum patterns that made it fun. My wife really likes the sounds I can make with the guitar after only 2 lessons with Tomas.

On top of that he is a genuinely pleasant person to be around. I can tell he loves teaching people guitar.

My wife really likes the genre of music I am learning because she grew up with it. I like it as well as the finger skills that go along with it.

I believe this experience learning from Tomas will greatly influence the personal music style that I end up developing into.

My lesson was very rewarding - excellent instructor , if you have a question he has an answer . He knows the guitar - Mr. Tomas makes you feel at ease , I was having a problem with my short fingers . He told me all the things that I was not doing correct and this was my first lesson - He made me feel really good when I did something right .

I have known Mr . Tomas for a short period of time and believe me if he can teach me and I am 70 years old and I have tired taking lessons before and they never worked out . Mr . Tomas is the person to go with .

Keturah M.

Spring, TX

About Keturah

I have a deep love for singing and performing. I began singing with my family at the age of 3 and was performing in public beginning at age 4. In 1988, I was introduced to barbershop a capella style harmonies and began singing with my sisters in a quartet. In 2003, I graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelors of Music, choral education emphasis, and French minor.

After graduation, I had the unique opportunity to become a member of the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I sang on numerous recordings, in addition to performing on the weekly radio and television broadcast of
Music and the Spoken Word.

In 2013, I became a member of Sweet Adelines International and currently sing with The Woodlands Show Chorus. I recently wrote an article published in the April 2016 Sweet Adelines International magazine, The PitchPipe, entitled What Makes Warm-Ups So Important. I continue to sing barbershop and compete along with my sisters. We are currently ranked 7th place in the Region.

I love all styles of music, from barbershop to pop to classical. My students also have varying interests in music. In my lessons, you select the music you want to improve on.

During our first lesson, I will have you sing through some music exercises to determine your current range and abilities. My motto is: "It doesn't matter where you start as long as you are improving!" Then you will be asked to sing a piece of a song. We will also discuss your goals and motivations. I am here for you! I want you to see growth immediately, so we will mold each lesson to the skills and techniques you need.

Students will receive a free transcription of vocal warm-ups and exercises for developing sight-reading, if this is a desired goal.

I took lessons with instructor Keturah for a couple months. Unfortunately , I couldn't continue due to unforeseen circumstances. Even though it was a short period of time, I can honestly say that she is an amazing instructor. I learned quite a bit . She is very organized, knowledgeable, punctual, and fun!! Her methods are very clear and simple to understand. She gives you 110% each lesson. She clearly listens to what you would like to achieve and focuses around that. I'm hoping to take classes with her once again in the near future. Thank you so much !!
