About Steve
Steve began his musical journey on the piano as a child, later moving on to explore
clarinet and trumpet in band before discovering the French horn in high school.
Though he earned his bachelor of music in horn performance at CSU, Sacramento, he never gave
up the piano, teaching students and accompanying choirs throughout college, and
earning scholarships for both instruments.

Steve has played for a number of musical groups, from orchestras, chamber
groups and community bands to being a pit musician in musical theater and
opera. This year, he will be joining the William Jessup University Wind
Ensemble and playing horn in that group. For the last several years, Steve has
directed the orchestra at his church, and has also arranged hymns and worship music
for church orchestras and smaller ensembles.

Besides teaching piano and hor
n, Steve's musical interests include music theory, arranging, composition, piano ensemble playing and ethnomusicology.

About Jamie
I've played flute since the day I fell in love with it. When I was a little girl I saw the flute for the first time and wanted to play it ever since. I had a rough start in learning how to play the flute but over the past 13 years I've developed enough skill to be an advanced musician.

When I first started I had private tutors to teach me how to play. Then I played in elementary, middle, and high school concert band. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Music Education and Performance at Sacramento State, where I've performed with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Concert Band, and Symphony Orchestra. I have also performed with the Camellia Symphony Orchestra and a variety of other ensembles in the Sacramento area.

I'm currently a music teacher for Twin Rivers Unified School District. I have several years of experience in teac
hing middle school band and elementary general music. I believe in giving children the chance to enjoy and love music to the fullest while still learning the proper way to play beautifully. Every student is different so I patiently work at everyone's various paces. And if some students have more difficulty with the instrument than other students, then I'll go as slowly as they need in order for them to understand the first step before moving on to the next. My hope is that every person can experience music to the fullest.

*** Lesson Details ***
If you have never held an instrument before then I'll go over all the basics before even playing the instrument. The instrument should be handled carefully and with proper care to make sure it stays in good shape.

Once we have all these basics down, we'll play music! Starting with tonal exercises, scales, short pieces, and maybe even fun pop music that the student likes. It all depends on the students' preference and progress.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to already have their instrument or get a rental. I'll provide a copy of the music that we'll be going over but they should purchase the book themselves when they get the chance.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Pop music

About Esther
I'm Esther, a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself piano and singing in a choir at the age of 9. I moved to the U.S. in 1992 and studied music for 10 years receiving my B.M. & M.M in music at California State University of Sacramento. I studied and trained with Claudia Kitka & Jackie Victorino for voice and Kirsten Smith, Joan McDe, & Angel Mamn for piano. I have performed many solo concerts in the U.S. as well as South Korea.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone.

I have 30 years experience teaching kids and adults private piano and 6 yrs voice coaching (early period to contemporary). I spe
ak fluent Korean and English.

*** Lesson Details ***
My objectives: to help students powerfully communicate through the essence of music and aid the development of children and adults by finding their strengths and weaknesses and to develop their skills and show their musical talents. I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, and Solfege skills (Do-Re-Me...etc), vocal technique, vocal performance, and Alexandria technique. Students participate in their own recital and show their musical talents.

Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student.
Also,I do prefer to work a weekly student.
A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and 10 min. playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs.

An intermediate lesson is longer, 45-50 min., with more focus on music from a specific chosen time-period. A specialty is preparation for voice and piano auditions for entering college.

I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults. I also can teach beginner guitar.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, electronic keyboard, guitar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar

*** Specialties ***
I teach the basic skills very strongly, and also encourage students and, challenge them, as well.
I also have new techniques for teaching voice and piano.
I do prefer to teach a weekly lesson.

I started singing in choirs in high school and continued studying voice throughout college. I have a classical background and moved to jazz voice as an undergraduate at California State University of Sacramento. I recently completed my Masters Degree in Vocal Performance in 2015!

*** Lesson Details ***
Teaching music gives me joy! I create a positive and encouraging environment for students to gain confidence in their performance abilities. Every student is different and I approach each lesson accordingly in order to accommodate each student's needs and expectations.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, microphone, sound system, music stand, sitting area for parent(s) when needed. Students are expected to purchase their own b
ooks which are required for piano lessons. I can supply photo copies for the first couple of lessons until books are delivered.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a metronome for lessons, but each student should acquire their own for practicing purposes. Students should provide a stereo, preferably with an iPod adapter, to listen to musical examples, and a piano for voice or their own instrument for instrumental lessons. I can provide an extra ukulele for lessons, but students should have their own for practicing purposes.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz voice, teaching students jazz theory and improvisation as well as stylistic techniques.

Thank you, Melissa, for working with my grand daughter with singing lessons. She has enjoyed her classes and has learned a great deal about how to use and project her voice. She learned how to warm up her vocal chords prior to signing and also she learned about the diction and pronunciation of her words.

So far so good. We started simple and I look forward to seeing what comes out in future sessions. I already have a few things to think about and practice at home, she seems very insightful so far and it's pretty cool that she can pick out by ear what note your on and what not. I just wish I could afford the longer sessions.

About Rick
Hi, I'm Rick. I look forward to helping you reach your goals. I'm going to tell you about me and how I can benefit you as your guitar teacher. You may have heard the old saying, "Those who CAN, do. Those who CAN'T, teach." I don't believe that. I believe that the very best teachers are those who have real world experience, and I do. The ways this benefits you are numerous. I have played music professionally for 40+ years at every venue imaginable, from concerts on big stages before thousands, to fairs, nightclubs, weddings, parties, etc. Over the years, I've learned what it takes to move people, to make them respond and clap. What it takes is playing what the song needs. Not playing every scale and lick you know, as fast as you can. There are many teachers who can teach you that. There are VERY FEW who can teach you how to play what your
audience wants to hear. I can. Whether you are 9 and want to play for family or friends, or 39 and looking to go pro, I'll help you succeed. Thank you.

As a professional musician, I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Rick as well as being in the audience watching him perform. Rick is one of the best and most versatile guitarists that I know, and after playing professionally myself for over 35 years myself, I know a few! He knows how to play just what the song needs, combine that with his positive, friendly personality and quick wit and you can't go wrong! Learn "what" to play...not just how to play! I highly recommend Rick! (In case you couldn't tell)

I've had both formal sit down and informal "Just jamming" lessons with Rick on all 3 instruments listed; bass, acoustic and electric. Rick is easy going, but very focused on the goals. I would recommend Rick to anyone wanting to improve their playing. I know he made me a better musician and a better band member!

I mainly sing opera but I can sing and teach Jazz, Musical Theater, and Pop. I am very passionate about music and singing and would love to be able to pass that passion on to my students. About Jaime
Jaime Smith began her formal Classical Violin Performance studies with William Barbini (Concert-master, Sacramento Symphony) at California State University, Sacramento. She then continued her studies with Malcolm Lowe (Concert-master, Boston Symphony) and Eric Rosenblith (String Department Chair, N.E.C.) at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she graduated with a degree in Violin Performance. In 1999 Jaime was the first musician to be granted a Fulbright Scholarship to Greece to study its traditional music. She attended the National Conservatory and the Athens Conservatory with Kyriakos Gouventas. She spent 17 years performing all over Greece and Cyprus and California with celebrated artists. She has performed countless times on Greek and Cypriot television and radio. In 2007 she formed the music trio Hohlax and since t
hen has organized 7 concert tours of California dedicated to sharing her love for Greek music to others. Along with her performances and events in California she has held performance seminars at California State University, Sacramento and University of California, Davis. She continues to organize tours for her trio, and she also performs up and down the coast.
Jaime was “Solfege Assistant” for the Solfege Department at N.E.C., and believes in the teaching of solfege to her violin students to be fundamental, empowering and extremely helpful. She has seen progress in those students who chose to add solfege to their lessons in these ways: faster understanding and recognition of musical intervals, a stronger understanding of rhythm and the important ability of the student to hear the melody in their head before playing. Solfege is encouraged but optional.
