How to speak clearly with good vocal technique to keep the speaking voice long lasting and healthy

About Serena

Hello! My name is Serena! Music shapes my life and has made me the person I am today. My experience in training in opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop has expanded my musical skills and knowledge. Not only have I been trained in performance, but I have also studied music history, music theory

Ms Serena is a quality teacher with high expectations and rigid policies. My daughter took lessons for approximately six months. During this time, she learned a great deal regarding vocal technique and the physiology behind quality sound and breath control. Ms Serena also guided my daughter through the creative writing process of composing her own song.
Lana
Serena was so kind, encouraging and helpful in beginning my vocal training. She focused on the fundamentals, explaining and answering every question I had, teaching me about proper technique, vocal health, audition etiquette, and more. She was also always willing to listen to how I was feeling and was very kind and welcoming at all times In a very short amount of time, my vocal technique and quality improved, and I now am a much more confident and healthy singer. Serena is amazing!
Lynnette
My daughter and I are very happy with how Serena coached her. Her technical way of teaching has helped Jana , my daughter, understand the mechanics of singing better. We booked the $400/5sessions promo in preparation for my daughter’s competition and we are happy to say that she did very well, thanks to Serena’s coaching.
Serena is very professional, communicates clearly, and is excellent in her craft. It is unfortunate that due to other family affairs, we are unable to continue with her.

Speaking well all starts with proper breath coordination. As a voice major I understand the inner workings of how the voice works, and the proper way in which to speak without strain. Often people speak on a "vocal fry" this is the gargly sound that is very low in the speaking register, not only is this bad for your voice it also doesn't make a good impression to employers or during an interview process or public speaking event. I encourage even my voice students to recognize that habit and break it in order for their singing voices to grow.

If you are interested in improving your public speaking skills, or feel strain when you speak for extended periods of time, it is worth considering taking vocal lessons because without this proper technique severe damage can occur to your voice.

Jordan is very skilled in Opera, Voice, and Teaching. She at once puts you at ease and quickly empowers you with knowledge and new skills. Although it may feel like baby-steps, you can hear and feel changes in your voice almost immediately . Studying Opera Voice is a long road of very hard work, so much to remember. There is a reason 4 year degrees are offered in it. But it is well worth it for those who have the stamina.

Jordan is very experienced and knowledgeable, I watched as she worked with me. She has an amazing ear. she hears nuances of differences in the slightest tone difference and can tell just what to do to help you sound wonderful. Looking forward to going back.
Thanks Jordan

Hi! I'm Rachel! Teaching people how to sing with ease is my passion. I teach in Orange County, Los Angeles, and online.

In year 2008 I became the single youngest person to be accepted into the world renowned Speech Level Singing International teacher training and certification program. I took vocal master classes and was trained and certified as a vocal coach directly by Seth Riggs, the international authority on vocal instruction who trained artists like Michael Jackson, Josh Groban, Stevie Wonder and hundreds of other Grammy Award winning singers.

I work with all styles. My goal with my voice students is to teach them how to use their voice in a healthy and natural way while maintaining the ...

Rachel gave me a breakthrough I never thought I could have. I had become demoralized with trying to teach myself to sing. Within a few singing lessons she convinced me I CAN sing. She breaks singing down into simple elements I can understand. After one of the lessons where I achieved a strong resonance for the first time (like singers I like to listen to) with my own voice, I got so overwhelmed with joy!! I realized one of my life dreams of singing could actually come true!! I am not exaggerating, I ended that lesson in joyful tears. What a joy for people to be able to sing like their favorite singers for the first time!!

Rachel has been a wonderful teacher! I feel like my voice has improved so much in only a few lessons. I wanted to to be able to have more confidence in my voice and she has totally helped me get there! She is also so nice and understanding and caters right to your voice. HIGHLY recommend

Our daughter has been taking voice lessons with Rachel since she was 8.5 years old. Rachel has a very warm, kind, and happy demeanor that instantly made our daughter comfortable during her first lesson. Rachel would come to our house every week (so convenient!) to showcase her vocal skills and pass along the knowledge to our daughter. She was always on time, professional, and, most importantly, helped educate and grow our daughter’s singing skills tremendously. Rachel has a unique blend of vocal artistry, understanding of the science behind the art (very rare trait), and ability to transfer that knowledge to her clients. We were so bummed when Rachel moved further away and could no longer do in-person lessons. Thankfully, we tried online virtual lessons via Zoom and it was perfect! I should note that this was way, way before the pandemic so it shows Rachel’s versatility with technology and her ability to teach clients online. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Rachel. She always has your best interest at heart and teaches to ensure long term sustainable vocal growth. We love Rachel and if you try her out, I know you will too.

"Taught me a choreography that I needed to perform in a few hours for a video we were recording on the same day. Even though it was last-minute, he showed Marvelous patience and an ethereal calmness to his instructions. Once you get the feeling of his dance choreography, you start getting the “swag” or the flow of the whole vision which makes learning dance with him a Resplendent experience! Definitely the Most-skilled, exceptionally gifted and purposeful choreographer I’ve ever known! MUST take classes with KENN...I would!"

I have long realized it takes me more time to develop than other students. After working with Stephanie, eventually I was able to start social dancing. Eventually, we also worked together on performance classes with other students. These were all wonderful experiences for me. Stephanie is very dedicated and passionate about dance. She is very attentive to detail. I highly recommend Stephanie!"

After the first 5 mins with coach weeks I knew then that I made the right choice. He’s very personable and finds a way to relate the topic or situation directly for you. How to Read & Understand Stage Directions

If you’ve ever been in a play or musical you will be familiar with the term ‘stage directions’. For those who don’t know, stage directions are,  “an instruction in the text of a play, especially one indicating the movement, position, or tone of an actor.” Stage directions can also be instructions for the director, such as the way the stage should be lit or what kind of sound effect could be used.  Stage directions can also tell an actor how to deliver a line— pace of speech, emot …

How Do Actors Cry?

Actors often draw their audience in through strong and seemingly authentic emotions.  Perhaps you watched a particularly emotional scene in a movie or play and wondered to yourself whether or not the emotion the actor was showing was truthful.  Perhaps they were crying and you could see the tears falling.  Are those real tears?  The answer is, probably, yes. Crying on command is tricky business and like everything else, takes preparation and practice. However, there are some tips and tri …
