Experienced teacher of 20 years, specializing in drawing, painting, and design at the beginning or intermediate levels. In general, most people don’t learn to draw because they believe you have to have the "gift" but the truth is anyone can learn to draw. I teach students how to draw from a classical studies background, but I believe in nurturing the uniqueness of each student and honoring their learning style. Unlike a classroom setting, a private lesson frees us up to build the lessons specifically around the student's goals and needs.

About Sharon

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I began my working life after college as a scenic artist here in Seattle working for ACT, Seattle Repertory Theatre and the Seattle Opera. While working full time in the theatre I took classes at the Gage Academy which is where I really honed my

How do you transfer a 3D subject onto a 2D surface? How do you draw what you SEE and not what you THINK? Drawing is the ability to see and transfer accurately what you see onto your 2D area. There are many techniques and tricks from the drawing masters I have shown my students that are effective in improving their drawing skills. We will also delve into highlights and shading, and use various pencils and other mediums to enhance the drawing experience as well. Come and see that your drawing can improve tremendously with practice and the right techniques!

About Rita

I have been teaching and painting since 1983. I am also a professional mural artist and found that my painting improved many years after art school. I was frustrated back then and painting seemed so complicated! Is that you? I figured out, with my own research, the freedom and fun in painting. Y

She is a calming and professional energy that guides you along the first few movements. At the end of the class she summed up what the next steps would be, making sure to set me up for success. "Think about it this way. Sandra has had dinner with Ansel Adams. She's worked in the White House three times as a picture editor. She was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize. She loves photography and she loves to look at photographs. And most importantly she loves to work with photographers regardless of their "level". You will learn about your photographs. You will learn about yourself. But don't be intimidated by her background. She is NOT one of those photography guru experts who try to motivate by tearing you down. She builds on where you are as a photographer. Instead of telling you that a photograph is no good she might tell you that "you should be doing more of this type of photograph." Whatever it costs to learn from Sandra is cheap. What you will learn is priceless."
