Book NowI have been a graffiti writer, muralist, and artist for the past 15 years.
I have been an elementary school educator for the past five years, and recently completed my Masters in Teaching degree for secondary education. Spray paint and education are my two passions, and working with students interested in beginning or honing their graffiti skills is a joy.
Graffiti art instruction will be co-constructed based on student interests and areas of focus. I am really interested in assisting students develop their own unique styles while being rooted in strong foundations of letter form and graffiti tradition. A curriculum outline could include:
a) Blackbooking foundations, such as developing strong handstyles, throw-up styles, and dead letters piecing leading to wildstyle piecing
b) Art theory, incorporating the elements and principles of art
c) Painting overviews, including techniques, can control, and cap/ aerosol brand breakdown
d) Graffiti history and cultures, including ...

Book NowI am a certified teacher with a master's degree in Radio, TV, Film and one in education as well. I was an adjunct professor of photography at Manhattan's New School for Social Research for 10 years and have spent another 10 years teaching other adults as well as adolescents photography. I have conducted private lessons as well as workshops in my own studio.
My teaching is unique because, unlike many photography clubs where members voice their various opinions on photographs, my technique involves an objective approach where lessons are given each time that can be analyzed to see if requirements of the assignment were met. This way, the student learns not just through critiques, but by comparing his or her results to successful examples. I also do quite a bit of field work and teaching by example. It's the most effective way to learn. I get students putting their digital cameras on "MANUAL" right away and they master the concepts of correct exposure right off the bat.
About William
I have been doing commercial photography for over 40 years. I owned and operated a large studio on West 22nd Street in NYC for 20 of those years and I taught photography from 1988 to the present. I have never stopped. I like one-on-one sessions, but I have also conducted many workshops and classes
