Hi! I've been a teacher all of my adult life--from coaching acting at summer camps, teaching theater, film and speech to high school students, English as a Second Language to students from middle school through adult professionals, research paper writing, education, and even yoga and martial arts! I love helping people discover new worlds, create new opportunities, and gain confidence through learning just about anything. The goal of a good teacher is to provide a space where the student has the tools to become successful, but still has a safe space to make mistakes and grow. 
Aside from teaching, I've been a published writer, columnist, and book author, have owned my own independent film company, and most recently managed a yoga studio in Los Angeles, California. I'm a former high school English and Drama teacher, have been a professor of graduate Education, and have been tutoring online for over ten years.
As a test prep tutor, my specialty is SAT Writing. In our sessions, I will go over basic tips/strategies for the SAT writing section, as well as review a practice SAT writing test excerpt where we can discuss the passage content how to answer the multiple choice questions in real time!

Getting ready for the multiple-choice Writing section of the SAT exam? You're in the right place! 
In this first part* of a multi-part video series, English tutor and former high school English teacher Laura will guide you through some tips and strategies to help you succeed. This first video goes over the format of the exam, basic strategies for approaching the questions, and finally, we'll apply these methods to one part of a practice test.
*Other videos in this series will include review of complete Writing passages and questions from practice exams. Watching the videos in order is highly recommended, but not required. 

SAT Writing Practice: Video 1 (Intro)

How to use a wall for a simple, effective yin yoga practice. Note: this video is not a full practice, but rather an explanation of the postures so you can practice on your own anytime, anywhere. All you need is a wall, a mat and something for support (blocks, cushions, or folded blankets).

Intro to Yin Yoga Wall Poses

Gravity Yoga is an intense version of yin yoga that focuses on building functional flexibility. We do two to three poses per session, and hold them for three to five minutes each. Gravity Yoga targets specific parts of the body with each pose, such as hamstrings, hips, shoulders (in today's class) as well as the back, wrists, and ankles. Suitable for *all levels (*recommended for adults, might not be ideal for kids whose bodies are still growing, hence the age restriction)! Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Did you know that breathing exercises (pranayama) are part of yoga? In this 7 minute video, I'll guide you through a short focused breathing exercise ("Triangle Breathing") that will help you with meditation, and cultivate a feeling of calm and relaxation.

This 53 minute video is a full Yin Yoga practice. What is Yin Yoga? Yin Yoga is a slow, restorative practice: instead of focusing on building muscle and cardio fitness, the focus instead is on connective tissue (tendons, ligaments, fascia) and increasing circulation.
Always consult your primary care doctor if you are not sure if a yoga practice is for you.
PROPS NEEDED: Yoga mat. Optional: blocks. If no blocks are available, use firm pillows (like sofa pillows/cushions) or folded blankets.

Yin Yoga (Full Class)

Did you know that breathing exercises (pranayama) are part of yoga? This short, six minute video is an introduction to a calming breathing practice using six simple breaths. Perfect as a daily meditation, a way to relax or calm your nerves, and to support overall stress management.
