I grew up in Los Angeles surrounded by a family of artists and designers. Following my career in fashion and costume design, I began making one of a kind silver jewelry. I have been working with fine silver for 8 years, selling my design pieces in art galleries and online.
I have always tried to share my passion for all things artistic with my two children. By volunteering to run art projects at their school, I discovered the joy of teaching. I decided to combine that with my sewing expertise to help children and adults realize their creative vision. I like helping students explore their ideas while making a project come to life on the sewing machine.

I am a fashion designer/instructor and former social worker. I am very patient with students and passionate about sewing. I get excited watching students build skills gradually from basic through advanced level techniques.
Also, I am one of the few teachers in the country who teaches the exclusive "Freehand" sewing, which is sewing without ready-made (commercial) pattern, like our grandparents did.
As a social worker, I taught participants in a homeless shelter, how to make various items geared towards independent living. For six years now, I've been teaching at a fabric store in East Harlem where patrons sign up for group sewing lessons as well as private lessons. I teach garment construction, alterations, home decor, and various sewing projects.

I learned to sew as a teenager. It became a hobby that I became passionate about that grew into a business when I decided to take an early retirement. I’m interested in helping others learn how to perfect their skills and and be proud of their work.
I’m familiar with the challenges that sewing can present and knows the patience that it can take. Some time you may need that extra help or opinion on how to get something done correctly. I would like to share my experience and lessons learned with you.

I am a sewing teacher with many years of sewing experience. I have sewn my own clothing and for others, including babies, children and adults. I have created and sewn numerous quilts and household items which I have given out as gifts. My students have told me that I inspire them and most have bought sewing machines by the time we're done with the lessons! They continue on with projects of their own.
I like to keep learning and growing by taking advanced sewing lessons whenever there is something new I want to learn. This style of learning has inspired me to teach my students to be creative and to make exactly what interests them, to help them bring their ideas to life,
I teach in the Oxnard and Santa Clarita areas, but am mobile to many other areas of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. If you don't have a sewing machine, it

I teach in the Oxnard and Santa Clarita areas, but am mobile to many other areas of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. If you don't have a sewing machine, it
is not a problem as I have machines available. I teach students from age 8 years old to 80 years old, at whatever speed is comfortable for you. It's exciting at any age to learn a craft which has been around throughout history. I look forward to meeting with you and being the one to inspire you to sew!
During these lessons here are just some of the things you will learn:
* How to use a sewing machine
* How to select fabrics and patterns

About Rona
Ever since I was a young child I've loved geometrical shapes. I remember using multi colored, multi geometric shaped blocks to make many different colorful designs. As a teenager I would 'doodle' 3-dimensional drawings, like boxes, to create more intricate geometrical designs. Finally, in 2010, when I learned to sew, I found my calling.
After several years of learning on my own, I started working for JoAnn Fabric. Honestly, it was mostly to support my fabric habit. However, it quickly became a blessing as I took over the Education department and started teaching quilting classes. I fell in love! After all, it's quite easy to teach your passion.
Unfortunately, the store was very restricted on what I could teach and how I could teach it, so I broke out on my own. Now, I offer a variety of classes and instructions starting with the basic

The Beginner's Guide to Basic Sewing Stitches [Infographic]
Before you can sew your own clothes, create crafts, and take on sewing projects, you have to learn the basic sewing stitches. From hand-sewing stitches to seam finishes, sewing instructor Cathy G. is here to help you master the basics... Modern sewing machines have all but eliminated the need for hand sewing. Gone are the days of constructing a garment by hand with a needle and thread. That being said, there are still many places where hand-sewing stitches are necessary for a high-qualit … Read More
