This exercise is designed to train you to breathe very effectively and healthy during the quick breathing windows that exist in most songs of all genres. Most untrained singers, resort to gasping and/or sucking the air during these quick windows which put your vocal cords in a very compromising state of tension. 

* You’ll be inhaling and pushing only like 5% of your stored air at a time
* You should be inhaling the same amount of air you push
* Breathing should still be relatively quiet 
* If you start feeling dry, direct the airflow more toward the top of your mouth and nasal passage
* You want a good amount of the airflow to go through the nasal passage, not downward onto the vocal cords

I've been developing talent and teaching voice for 10 years. I also specialize in Stage Performance. I'm a Vocal Producer/Songwriter turned Talent Developer. I've written songs for The Backstreet Boys, Trey Songz and more.

HOW TO EXPAND

Learning to expand is the first step in learning to protect your vocal cords! Vacuuming the air, rather than sucking the air, is very important in keeping the muscles inside your throat deactivated, which in turn, keeps your vocal cords relaxed. 

Once you learn how to properly expand, the next major step in your training will be learning to stay expanded and supportive throughout each entire song that you sing. That's Phase 2 of my 5 Phases of Singing Vocal Method. 

How To Expand Your Body To Breathe

While the title. "Learning to Open" may seem a bit elementary, this is actually one of the components that I spend the most time on. 

Here are 5 reasons why it's important to learn this:

1. So that vacuuming air can happen easily and quickly
2. So that your nasal cavity is perfectly spaced
3. So that you can unlock your head voice, and/or the top of your sound (treble)
4. To easily lift your soft palate
5.  So that your beautifully resonated sound can escape your oral cavity

Learning to open correctly normally takes my students 1 month to master on average. So please pay close attention to every detail mentioned in this training.
