Learn how to breathe like a singer! Breathing is the most important fundamental to healthy singing. Without breath, singing would be impossible. In this video, you will learn a few techniques that you can use to breathe in a healthier way, which will create a healthier singing voice. It will also help you sing longer lines and have a better sound! A straw and a cup filled halfway with water is recommended for one exercise, but not necessary.

Singing

I have been teaching private voice and oboe lessons since for over 10 years. From pop to classical, I believe that as long as you maintain a healthy foundation, you can sing and play any style of music you want! Throughout my career, I have been featured as a vocalist and oboist on Billboard-charting and award-winning albums that vary in genre and style, and have learned that you can conquer any style you wish with the right fundamentals. I have been playing and singing since I was 8 years old, and graduated from the University of Southern California with my Masters in Oboe Performance, having graduated from Chapman University with my Bachelors in Music Performance with a double emphasis in Vocal and Oboe Performance in 2016.

I trained classically but personally enjoy singing Pop and Musical Theatre. Because of my background, I like to make sure that my students have good technique that carries through to singing any style they like so that they can accomplish all of their goals without damaging their voices and affecting their health. I have extensive experience with singing in languages including Spanish, French, German, and Italian and like my students to experience different languages as well.

Every voice is beautiful in it's own unique way. I believe that it is important to find your own voice and thrive in any musical style you desire. I was trained classically at Chapman University, where I also took part in musicals, a cappella, and choral programs. The foundation that I found was key in all of these genres was a healthy technique that left your voice feeling healthy and produced the most genuine sound. I have performed on the Hollywood Bowl stage, in a Covergirl promotion for Pitch Perfect 2, and at the Beacon Theatre on Broadway. I love teaching all styles of music and encourage my students to explore the wonderful world of music!

So sweet and very reassuring, which this adult beginner appreciated! And I learned useful material in the first few minutes of the lesson. I'm looking forward to the rest of my lessons!

I had one lesson with Emilia and she already has taught me a lot as a complete beginner. I went in person and her studio space was very nice. She gave me warm ups to do at home and gave pointers throughout the lesson about breathing, singing louder, and my register. We’re deciding on a song together that I can learn how to sing. Excited to continue lessons with her :)

Emily is unfailingly positive and so takes away the self-consciousness new adult singers may have.  I’ve grown in confidence over the past few months, so now more easily disturb my loved ones by belting out show tunes!

Emilia has an excellent ability to establish rapport.  She has a great sense of how much she can push a student and still be encouraging at the same time.

Outstanding instruction.  Emilia gets more interaction into 45 minutes than many get into an hour and a half. She anticipates one's needs extremely well and naturally. I only need to ask a question here and there to get my own understanding.
Also, she puts so much positivity and true belief into her student that criticism is completely absent from any correction

Emilia has a super ear and is flexible and crystal clear in her instruction. On top of this Emilia and any of her critique is positive in the absolute best way - letting you know when you're not precise without an iota of negativity, only encouragement.

My daughter is a little shy in front of strangers. Emilia does such a great job making my 8 year old daughter feel comfortable and look forward to her lessons.  Today, she even spent a little extra time past the lesson time. My daughter wishes she had more lessons per week.
