Bonjour tout le monde ! (Hello everyone!)

My name is Mikayla and I cannot wait to meet and teach you my favorite language and life's passion.  I have been speaking French for half my life now and I have loved it since day one. I earned my Bachelors in French and Francophone Studies with a minor in European History from San Diego State University in 2014, lived and worked as an English and French teacher in Nîmes (south of France) and I now live in Lyon where I completed my Masters-FLES (teaching French as a second and foreign language).

I tailor my lessons to fit my students. I look at your level, background, age and goals to find the best course of action for us to take. We work on grammar and vocabulary of course, but also phonetics and French and Francophone culture !

I like to keep my lessons fun and interactive and I pull resources from many different places. Currently the books I'm using for instruction are: Latitudes, Adomania, Alter Ego, Tex's French Grammar, Liberté, and SuperMax. I also use many online exercises, songs, videos, and articles to supplement for listening and reading exercises.

Because I live in France, it may appear that my availability isn't all that great -- please note that I am very flexible and I am certain that we can find a time that works for both of us. If this is the case please contact me with times you were hoping to do.

Being able to understand things you hear in French is a necessary step for all beginners, and this online French class will help you work on your listening skills in a fun way. We’ll use videos, songs, and radio clips to test your comprehension and expand your vocabulary!

Listening to French is just as important as speaking French. This interactive class will help you improve your comprehension skills as you listen to various songs or radio clips, and then answer questions about them. This fun exercise will test your knowledge, expand your vocabulary, and improve your grammar. Ultimately, this will make conversations with other French speakers a lot easier!

Comparative adjectives allow you to compare only two things. Superlative adjectives compare three or more things. Mikayla will teach you the formula for comparing items, plus share common adjectives that you can use!

In this video, Mikayla will teach you how to conjugate verbs in the present simple. Most verbs follow the same pattern, so you will unlock 100s of conjugations by the end of this video!

How to Conjugate Verbs in the Present Tense

Routines are actions you do throughout a typical day. Mikayla will teach you how to describe what you do when you wake up, after school, after work, or before bed.

Describing Your Daily Routine

In this video, Mikayla will teach you common vocabulary for articles of clothing. Clothes change in function of weather, activities, and how you are feeling that day. 

By the end of this video, you will know how to explain what you are wearing to others, or make a suggestion for what others should wear.
