English (ESL)

I love great conversation with people from places all over the world.  English has helped me as a common language in my travels through over 30 countries.  Originally from the the state of Ohio, I am an American citizen with a neutral mid-western accent that is common amongst television broadcasters.  I have been a teacher in three American states and internationally in Kuwait, Turkey, and Ecuador.  I am licensed to teach primary school professionally and have a TESOL certification for teaching English as a second language.  

I began teaching English in the most natural form.  My kindergarten students would come to me with no previous experience speaking the English language.  Through daily lessons, songs, games, story time, and play these students developed extensive vocabularies to support their continuing primary school education.  In recent years, I have developed strategies to teach both older children and adults the English language.  While I prioritize grammar, I believe the most important part of learning English is using it in meaningful ways.  This is the reason that I look for ways to engage students in good conversation about a variety of topics no matter what their English levels.  Whether we are discussing song lyrics, questioning the message of a video clip, or reflecting on the actions of a book character, I will help you to expand your understanding of the the English language and feel more comfortable using it in practical ways.

Sometimes even experienced English speakers can be confused by English idioms.  During this lesson, we will discuss English Idioms that describe friendship, love, and various types of relationships.  Participate in this lesson so that you can increase your confidence with understanding and using these expressions.
