I am trained in the Italian renaissance method and I teach sculpture according to the classical Italian style. This is great for students applying for art schools around the world wanting to build their portfolio in sculpture. The technique is recognizable at fine art institutions in Europe. A student will learn the academic method and will be able to build on the knowledge and produce works of art. We cover armature, basics, molds, resins. We also cover features, portraits, half size, recline and life size sculptures.

About Jenny

This is going to sound very silly. I started sculpting after I woke up from a dream in 2006. Prior to that I never did any art or sculpture. My first commission was a bust and a sculpture for president Clinton.. Wow right? Although my work was good I had no idea how to use armature and what tools

I signed up for sculpture lessons from Jenny last July. She was very good in understanding my need. I wanted to improve my technique in order to apply to a specialty fine art school. I am also learning how to do armature and set up my pieces. this is not like ceramics. Its different. Italian style. You work with plaster and other stuff.

I provide classical instruction in portraiture, still life and landscape in your studio or mine. In this traditional approach to drawing and painting, what will be taught and focused upon are perspective, value and composition in order for the student to develop strong visual language skills. The program of study begins with a specific focus on drawing, since drawing is the foundation upon which all great traditional art is built. Throughout this training, emphasis will be placed on accuracy, or more specifically, seeing and rendering correctly such things as line quality, hard and soft edges, proportion, positive and negative space through abstract form and the use of the full range of values.

About Jeff

I'm a graduate of Dean College in Franklin, MA and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where I majored in art history and studio art with a focus on portrait painting and illustration. I continued further study at the Andeeva Portrait Academy in Sante Fe New Mexico, the Los Angeles Acad

I like to take pride in making my students feel secure and knowing and seeing the improvement they make within each session. I will be handing out a materials list prior to our lessons. Most students see a huge leap in drawing within the the first lesson! Class starts out usually with me giving a 1 hour demonstration on what I expect them to do as I cover and explain my entire process and thought and calculations that goes into drawing and painting. For the rest of the class I will be besides the student as they work giving them one on one pointers and as much help and explanation as they need in order to improve. Students start out with learning how to look and draw what they observe accurately by first working on simple geometric shapes such as spheres, cubes. We then will move on to Cast studies and after a few months of studying we will start on figures and portraits.

I had a huge coincidence by having a lesson with Kai in the Bay Area. He and I have the same point of view about learning drawing that helps me to understand his tips and instructions. It is a true pleasure to be his student, I was feeling like I’m detective who’s seeking for tips and clues and try to transfer all of that onto the paper. Also he is really good by explaining how to see simple shapes and figures in every object, how to extend an imaginary line and keep angles which did and will help me to draw more consciously. Highly recommend him anyone who wants to improve its drawing and painting skill.

Kai is the best art teacher I ever had, he is genuine and puts his heart and soul into making sure you learn everything there is to know to be a successful artist.
Emily
Kai is an excellent instructor and has left a tramendious mark on me as both a student and an artist. Kai may be young, but he has knowledge beyond his years through skill and ambitiously being self taught he has been commended on nationally. Kai in the fall attended FACE and was recently awarded a certificate of excellence from The Portrait Society of America. I very grateful to have worked with him and been walked through his very informative and beautiful demos. Crique from Kai is wonderful and facilitates vast and constructive improvement in skill level. Would highly recommend Kai!

"I haven't picked up art supplies since high school and Eileen was such a delight and was so supportive of my pitifully lapsed skills. Her studio is everything you imagine a Brooklyn artists studio would be. Would like a little Eileen sitting on my shoulder guiding me through life, like she did through my painting lesson. 10/10 will take lessons again."

"My family purchased photography lessons with Julie for me as a birthday present and I had a fantastic experience. Since I am mostly interested in bird and wildlife photography, Julie was kind enough to meet me at a local birding "hotspot" in Irvine and in an hour my skills improved tremendously with her assistance. No more over/underexposed shots, MUCH better detail in my photos and I learned to read and utilize a histogram properly. Highly, highly recommend.

Note: This site does not have an option for "outside location" so I was forced to select "Teacher's Location", but Julie was willing to meet me at a location I proposed."
